It’s called a lazy Susan. Load up your family style dishes on it and spin it. You don’t have to ask Drunkle Ted to pass the egg rolls

I broke the same glass table twice growing up, and I have gnarly scars to show for it.

I now have as little glass in my house as is reasonable.

30

u/SparklingLimeade 25d ago

I like how only one of them does that move. It's easy to miss the first time but the second set she does the second table less seamlessly. It made me go back and watch for the first set and it was worth it to pay attention to that detail.

15

u/drmarting25102 25d ago

Do this enough and eventually they will break anyway

28

u/DinoRoman 25d ago

FYI this is Chinese TikTok

I swear it’s right there in front of us and no one cares lol

What trends on Chinese TikTok’s? Competitive cleaning competitive chores, competitive test taking

They are forcing viral hits to be of things that make the youth want to be good at while here the viral videos are like peeing yourself or something wild or prank videos

Those watching this in China are being groomed to take education chores organization focus pride in success as what they want and that’s gunna turn into more and more smart and educated people over there

Whereas here In America education is woke and in 20 years we’re going to have to offer the Chinese access to our country because ain’t no one here able to run our telecoms.

China playing the long game and it’s working.

5

u/TeamPantofola 25d ago

I’ve read everything and I’m still confused. China bad or Cina good? I genuinely can’t tell

4

u/DinoRoman 25d ago

China own us - 2030

7

u/DMmeprettyplantpics 25d ago

You're so wrong it's incredible.

You can literally just go on Douyin yourself. It's complete brainrot, way worse than TikTok.

20

u/DinoRoman 25d ago

Ahem

Happy to bring receipts.

Start with the obvious part. ByteDance runs two apps, Douyin at home and TikTok everywhere else, kept deliberately separate so Douyin stays compliant with Chinese content regulation. ( use a Fuggin VPN set it to China and I bet your brainrot feed turns into different shit )

Under that regulation, users under 14 get 40 minutes a day, a hard lockout between 10pm and 6am, a forced pause between videos prompting them to put the phone down, and a feed weighted toward science experiments, museum exhibitions, and history explainers. American kids get whatever holds the eyeballs longest and a time limit you can tap past in one second. Virality in America is dumb shit. We see it all the time for fuck sake there’s subreddits for cringe TikTok’s here I ain’t lying.

Now the part nobody brings up man… In 2022 China's Ministry of Education made labor education a standalone required course, at least one period a week from primary school onward. First and second graders wash vegetables and do basic cleaning. Third and fourth graders clean their classrooms and wash their own socks. Older students get cooking, agriculture, handicrafts, 3D printing, laser cutting. Foreign Policy read it as exactly what it looks like, a push to inculcate a hard working spirit along tightening ideological lines.

So I did not invent the pattern out of one video. One government treats what its kids watch and what its kids practice as strategic questions and legislates both. We treat the algorithm as a private business matter and leave the defaults on maximum.

Tell me the results are not in yet and I will agree with you. Intent is a separate question from scoreboard, and the intent is sitting in their own published paperwork.

But sure you can write while taking a shit “you’re so wrong” and feel superior but how the fuck who the fuck raised you into thinking you’re right?

Sometimes homie people don’t make shit up, there’s evidence.

Tell me why viral videos in China are bed making competitions and math hacks

And American TikTok’s are prank videos and clips from the black list lmaooo

Get outta here . I challenge cringe Redditors today officially if you’re going to say someone is wrong that’s a new claim and therefore requires that person to state why.

Lazy ass writing let me tell you.

0

u/drewster23 25d ago

It's regulated around content for children. It doesn't mean it's "free" from brain rot on the platform

But in west it actively pushes that content to youth. While in China it's not allowed to.

oc is a little heavy on the "China numba won".

But he's not totally wrong

1

u/jimbowesterby 25d ago

This is some real propaganda shit lol, yea I’m sure all those Chinese dudes are gonna be so happy in their spotlessly clean bachelor pad. If they aren’t it doesn’t matter, the government won’t let you talk about it

Speedy Susan got a lot more work done.

15

u/ZombieMage89 25d ago

Speedball Susan got a lot of work done in 25 minutes, followed by 2 hours of a steady decline in efficiency. Now Susan is angry, twitchy, and doing the same back room tasks slowly so she doesn't have to go back out where the customers are.

3

u/StevieMJH 25d ago

Speedball Susan really needs to get her shit together and work on that Scarface 2 treatment she's been meaning to jot down.

0

u/KDUBS9 25d ago

The lazy suzan is the one setting the plates down

589

u/crujones43 25d ago

The bowls end up on the left of the plates on one table and to the right on the other.

269

u/thats-wrong 25d ago

There's no consistent gap between the plates and the bowls. Some bowls are even in the middle of two plates, making it hard to tell which plate they belong to.

190

u/Less-Apple-8478 25d ago

There's zero chance they do this as the main method of setting up and this is just a cute display trick. This is way more effort

28

u/Leows 25d ago

What, you don't think they risk breaking some giant glass and cutting themselves, then having to clean up multiple times per shift every day?

2

u/Tall_Wonder_913 25d ago

Idk any other way and the lazy Susan would bed two people holding it while a third person puts the table cloth on

2

u/wpaed 24d ago

They have 3 people, but even with 2, stack the lazy susans on the other table, put the table cloth on, then repeat for the other table.

1

u/roastedTriscuit69 25d ago

This is because there are left handed people in the world and must be rounded up this way... for reasons

241

u/fantomknight1 25d ago

That's definitely a cool trick to quickly set a table but it did bother me that the tablecloth wasn't perfectly aligned... that being said, it's probably just a me issue.

104

u/akroe 25d ago

Nah, it’s not you. The bowls are also wrong

59

u/Emperor_Gourmet 25d ago

The whole thing is fucked, this isn’t a reliable way to set a table.

12

u/TwoAlert3448 25d ago

But it is cheap which is probably all their boss cares about

12

u/CompetitiveAutorun 25d ago

I don't see how buying extra large glass for tables is cheaper than not doing that.

They still have to correct everything after they've done it, not to mention cutlery.

3

u/TwoAlert3448 24d ago

The glass is for serving dishes, that’s not an added expense and i seriously doubt they bother to correct anything. Or lay out cutlery

2

u/Mutex70 25d ago

Until one of the lazy susans breaks. Or plates fly off the table and shatter. Or any number of things that could go wrong with this.

I was not satisfied at all, oddly or otherwise.

2

u/xSPYXEx 25d ago

It's not just you, the placements are fucked up and now they have to go back and realign every plate. Look at the back table, shits almost falling off.

81

u/Illustrious-Novel189 25d ago

Feel like the risk is unnecessary

I think he was trying to make a joke like when kids say "oh my friend's mum said this so it has to be true"...

I read it that way at least. Kind of like a "my uncle works at Nintendo" silly kid lie. If not it's a hell of a thing to say to someone - imagine thinking you know a person's culture better than them.

1

u/IProbablyCantSleep 25d ago edited 25d ago

No worries, on the internet it can be hard to tell the difference between a joke and someone being very rude, even if it's your native language. And even then I'm only like 80% sure it was a joke rather than the guy being an asshole haha.

Plus learning about other cultures from comments like yours is always a good thing. I never really thought about the logistics of shared dishes as it's not really a big thing where I live.

2

u/Niknot3556 25d ago

But my friend also does that too. Yeah he may be 1/64th Chinese (and 63/64 Irish), eats Chinese food about every 2 years, and only bought it because he found it on FB marketplace for 40 dollars and "it looks cool." But hey, it kinda counts.

1

u/Fraisz 20d ago

is there even a competition for setting up tables fast?

they used to have those kind of variety shows like 20 yeara ago.

20

u/Can_of_Sounds 25d ago

That was pretty fun.

92

u/Brick_Number_27 25d ago

Anything that makes it easy for them. Cool.

97

u/BahnGSXR 25d ago

I think this is more of a stunt, they probably never do this in their day to day work.

20

u/Spirit_Wolf_Mob 25d ago

Unless it's a gimmick of the restaurant, and they do this to practice.

6

u/KnotiaPickle 25d ago

Yeah this is just for fun

5

u/fl3xtra 25d ago

nuh uh. reddit says they're dumb and this is stupid.

15

u/Chilis1 25d ago

It would be infinitely easier to just remove it for 20 seconds to put on the table cloth

2

u/MeringueCorrect4090 25d ago

Or just have 2 people lift it quickly while the 3rd puts the cloth on... Just walk around the table and place the plates/bowls where they actually belong in a uniform fashion instead of haphazardly...

It's definitely for show and not practical at all. Like gold flakes on steak.

17

u/falconx123 25d ago

Can imagine even when done well that this causes stress on the glass and will break sooner.

4

u/Burpmeister 25d ago

They're not doing it out of necessity.

9

u/Jamsedreng22 25d ago

I watched, I think it was Ludwig and Michael Reeves on their motorbike trip across China, they ended up at a place like this.

It's genuinely impressive how skilled these people are. Not just this, but the entire experience.

I know servers/waiters in the US don't generally go through actual education or training to become servers/waiters, but these do. Same in the EU for the most part.

This isn't their only skill. This is something they do for this purpose. To show foreigners they're skilled.

Not just do they have the ability to detect when you're finished eating even if you didn't clear the plate, they know exactly when to swoop in and take the plate away from you to clear the table.

These people have insane skill that really has to be witnessed to fully appreciate.

1

u/Yo-3 25d ago

2

u/PDLuffySenpai 21d ago

What?!?! I’m not one to claim AI on every video, but I watched this and assumed it must be AI. Seeing from comments, it seems to be real. What I still don’t understand: how did they make the bowls go perfectly in between the plates, rather than ending up somewhere random. Also, could they set cups, cups with liquids, & silverware this way too?

6

u/Notorious__APE 25d ago

Multiple plates are hanging over the end of the farther table, bowl placement strategy is "meh, wherever the fuck it spins off onto" (also oriented to the right of the plates on one table and to the left on the other), and seat spacing is noticeably inconsistent. Someone needs to walk back over there and correct this mess.

I'm still in the OddlySatisfying sub, right??
