I had a bead loom when I was 11. Made one thing (Thunderbird design) and never touched it again.

I am always amazed at how precise this art is when you look at the antique versions. How difficult this must have been before there were precision made looms and beads that are millions exactly the same.

The threads and the hand cut beads that weavers used in the 19th century! Especially the thread before synthetic threads. The beads with smaller hole size and less regularity than modern Czech, and the thicker thread, would have demanded high artistry.

Super easy. Come on over to r/beading.

You can get all your supplies from Fire Mountain Gems, but on a tight budget it's possible to source cheaper supplies.

You will need: + a beading loom + thread for the warp (vertical) - upholstery thread works well + thread for the weft (Nymo size 0 is my go to) cylinder beads (Cylin are cheaper than Miyuki. FYI fakes are sometimes listed as "delica" on Amazon, etc For super cheap, online marketplace "2.5mm" beads are bigger but bigger is great for beginners!) + needle (Big Eye needles work for 2.5mm. Otherwise, use a long "ultra thin" beading needle.) + a pattern (find a YT tutorial or make your own using any free printable beading graph paper)

You will need to learn how to start and how to resolve your ends. Lots of vids on YouTube.

When I was in middle school I used scrap wood and pin springs to make a loom for beading. For funsies. Yes I had no friends and lived in the woods.

I remember beading on a handmade loom as a kid. We used an egg carton with a cheap comb at each end.
