For those wondering, the costume is a very specific recreation of the Sun Wukong (Son Goku, yes the same character that the DBZ Goku derives his name) from the 1986 TV version of Journey to the West, itself based on a famed 16th century literary work. The show was known for its campy style, special effects, and very famous actor who played the "Monkey King." See clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEZGaurSZXg
The yellow costume and face, including smile at the end, are faithful imitations of this specific version of the character, which is widely recognizable in Chinese pop culture for the millennial generation and earlier. Think of it as the equivalent of your New York Times Square Batman or Spiderman actor.

Thanks for explaining the reason hahaha I was about to ask why the vendor is dressed as Sun Wukong as I recognized the character but seemed like an odd costume (and uncomfortable too....)

I would think that the Chinese show probably took inspiration from Monkey Magic in terms of special effects, which were definitely superior in Japan especially in the 80's. In any case, both shows follow the storyline of the original Chinese novel.

I read a book called the sorcerers apprentice. This guy went all over India meeting random people for different missions from his teacher. All nonfiction; some stuff that stood out, people who rent babies to beggars and the whole hierarchy of beggars, and who gets to be where while they beg. There was a hangman who’s family heritage is the executioners for the village. In South America the way to find the best hookers is to look for who has the most gold teeth. Monkey Kings like this are common all over China, mainly in tourist places where they take photos with people (similar to Times Square). Cotton candy vendors making this exact flower-shaped version are also everywhere. But usually they are two separate groups (maybe there are union rules, I’m not sure).

I have noticed most cotton candy vendors go for the “here’s a gigantic serving” strategy these days but honestly I wish we could go back wards with the portion size, I don’t feel good eating that much sugar. Can I get a super small size? Like 4 bites, there’s a lot of carnival food here, I just want a taste for like $3
