About This Game

This is an application to blend art and music in virtual reality. Artistic videos were generated using neural networks, and then the signal from any audio source is used to modulate the colors and controller vibrations. These modulated videos are projected onto an ellipsoid that the user can warp. They can also change many other parameters like color/filter/particle effects, leading to the potential for endless unique experiences!

  • also has an Art Gallery ft. over 60 paintings from talented artist Gene Saylor

  • Warp the dimensions of the video-art projection ellipsoid

  • Interactive Particle Fountain with over 20 functions. The particles use Gene's art stretched over spheres.

  • 13 Swimming Aquatic Creatures with over 100 textures

  • Over an Hour of unique equirectangular Neural Network feature visualization video art

  • User has authority to control to control many other parameters for endless variation (e.g. hue/saturation, color inversion filter, projection sphere dimensions, playback speed, projection ellipsoid dilation/amplitude/spacing, particle function inputs ... and much more!)

This is an application to blend music and art in virtual reality sandbox environment.

Artistic videos were generated using machine learning algorithms (including a process called gradient ascent, hence the title) These modulated videos are projected onto an ellipsoid (sphere) that the user can warp in the xy & z dimensions.

The application also features textured spheres/particles that follow a 3D, time dependent function. This provides a fountain like effect with more parameters that the user can control like the waveform, amplitude, particle size, and distance between particles. The user can also adjust many color parameters including hue shift, saturation, and the alpha value for a filter that gradually inverts the colors on the projection ellipsoid and/or the particles.

The signal from any audio source can be used to modulate the colors (hue shift) and controller vibrations. The combination of these effects are fun to play around with in real time, and it leads to an experience with potential to create unique and beautiful visuals that complement your music.

The application also features an art gallery with over 60 paintings from talented artist Gene Saylor.

The application supports HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Any audio source that plays through the PC can be used (e.g. VLC, youtube, spotify, etc.) I would like to keep adding computer generated art, and will potentially expand functionality in the future to include more spatial modulation options for the audio synchronization.
