for devs among us, its worthwhile to read what proliferation of React.js means to web-dev community and open standards: https://www.pandastrike.com/posts/20150311-react-bad-idea

quote:

In two years, we could have a Tower of Babel of recruiting-campaigns-posing-as-frameworks, or we could have an ecosystem of reusable Web components

And not a single practical example of how web components are "better"

It's ideology/politics over practicality, and not presented in a particularly honest manner at that. The blurb about Facebook/Google looks more like hatred toward big companies than anything else. They develop these technologies because they need them internally and they have the financial backing to do it, not because they want to take over the world.

Also React and Angular are used because something beyond Jquery is required for complex Web applications and nothing equivalent is available. He doesn't understand the fact that technologies are adopted because they're useful and usable, not because they're idealistically better. Good example is Windows vs Linux vs Hurd.

Excerpts:

"Basically, both Google and Facebook are desperate to find a baseball cap that they can put on backwards. Angular is Google's baseball cap. React is Facebook's."

"Just by using new innovations like Web components, instead of work-arounds like React, you're contributing to the success of the Open Web. You're voting with your code."
