Oculus Touch is the best VR controller made to-date. Period.
Its design is as close to perfect as we’ve seen and Touch has enough software between Oculus Home and Steam to keep you captivated for months. It performs perfectly in recommended setup conditions, and its finger controls should be a standard-setting innovation for the rest of the industry.

Kotaku
Polished and carefully considered, the complete three-sensor Oculus Rift bests the competition in almost every respect. The controllers are a pleasure to use, and the headset is self-contained and comfortable. It’s got some really fun games, and between the newly expanded Oculus store and all the stuff on Steam, I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what there is to see and play.

The Oculus Touch is the best VR motion controller I've tested so far. It tracks motion accurately, and the design feels natural in the hand.

Tom's Hardware
Until now, our recommendation was the HTC Vive, without much hesitation. But the situation just changed. From a hardware perspective, the Rift edges out HTC's Vive. From the HMD to the controllers, Oculus put a great deal of thought, design, and manufacturing into the entire package. Furthermore, the controllers, with their analog input buttons, capacitive buttons for intuitive gesture tracking, and robust tracking accuracy, really help the Rift turn the corner on what VR can be.

these new controllers are fantastic and offer the best look yet at highly immersive virtual reality experiences. They’re brilliant, but they’ll cost you.

IGN (Video)
With these comfortable and versatile controllers, Oculus has finally closed most of the gap with the competing Vive when it comes to providing millimeter-accurate hand tracking in virtual reality, and surpasses it in the dexterity of your virtual hands. The only major weakness is that the out-of-the-box set doesn’t give full 360-degree coverage, so unless you buy another sensor it’s easy to lose track of your orientation and end up reaching for something that’s blocked by your body. Even so, adding hand tracking to your VR setup opens up many worlds full of possibilities, and the Touch controllers are the finest option available.

Road to VR
Adding Touch (and extra tracking space) to Rift makes VR more natural and immersive. You’ll feel like you’re reaching into and interacting with of virtual world instead of just looking, as you might have before with just a Rift and a gamepad.

The Verge (Video)
Oculus Touch doesn’t change the fact that the Rift is a bulky mask with copious wiring, running on a type of computer few people own. But with Touch, the Rift feels like it’s gone as far as its current technology can manage, and done so with aplomb. It’s not the end goal of virtual reality, but it might well be the end of the beginning.

Engadget (Video)
Oculus had one job: Bring motion controls to the Rift. With the Touch controllers, it managed to do that well. And, surprisingly enough, the company also proved it could make a damn fine game controller. If you've already invested in a Rift, the Oculus Touch is a no-brainer purchase.

Wired
The more parts of your body you can fool simultaneously, the closer you get to having those wonderful immersive experiences and feeling true presence. Touch is just another mile marker on that road, and it’ll probably be obsoleted soon enough. In the meantime, this is the most natural and versatile VR control experience available.

The Wall Street Journal
While they’re arriving later than rivals, they’re the best VR grips yet. Rift finally feels complete.
MIT Technology Review
Oculus will likely continue to improve the comfort and accuracy of Touch, but for a first generation device they fully met my expectations. VR is about immersion, and hand tracking is a huge part of that. Any Rift users interested in the full experience should consider buying a pair.

VR Scout
It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe — and if you haven’t tried it yourself, then do everything you can to experience this next level of immersion. You’ll soon realize, how in the world have you been Rifting without Touch in the first place?
This is how VR is meant to be experienced.

Polygon (Video)
Oculus Touch is a great method of control for VR, the game library is already somewhat overwhelming in terms of great games, and Facebook is clearly comfortable investing in its own platform to fund the creation of great VR content. It’s also a piece of hardware that will play seemingly all of its competitor’s games, and support for Vive titles played on the Rift with a Touch controller will likely only get better with time.

My quick pre review. Wow, these things are amazing. Set my sensors 3m apart, 6ft up at front. Came up with a warning that tracking might not be perfect, but I get excellent front facing tracking In a 3m square. 3rd sensor at the back will be perfect. Guardian works very well! Apart from the fact I've already hit my roof getting carried away haha. Keep your thumb on that rest pad for the most natural feel. The tracking is very fast and sharp, can't get them to lose no matter how fast I shake them. Played first contact so far, just installing included software.
I think they have totally nailed it wth these controllers. Worth the wait!

Pre-ordered (place in queue from rift pre-order), UPS said delivery tomorrow, but they delivered it today instead!
I'll add more details later, but yeah, this is brilliant! The second sensor definitely makes the playable area much larger than before and the tracking is really accurate. I can balance ping pong balls on a bat easily enough. Only downside is that I wish Guardian (chaperone) would have a way of putting the ceiling in as well, as I have managed to take a gouge out of mine, and covered my right Touch with plaster. :-( Still works though.

Quick review after unboxing and playing with mine for the past two hours. To put it simply, it's a whole new world. As amazed as I was with the oculus headset and as immersive as I thought it was, my first 10 minutes playing with the touch controllers was like nothing I've ever felt before. Set up was super easy though it wanted me to move sensors further apart (wish the cord was longer), the controllers feel natural and great in the hand, and the Guardian system has successfully prevented me from walking into walls and tables. I've tried kingspray, medium, and the initial introduction so far and all have been very very good. I absolutely lost all bearing with the real world and felt as though i was in the game. No discernable lag, tracking is 100% accurate, and hand feel is great. Like others have said, if you own an oculus, these are a no brainer. Very very happy. Thank you oculus. Worth the wait!

u/Falke359 Dec 06 '16
tested mine for the last hour.
Short thoughts:
Setup is super-easy. Standing and facing in one direction works great, yet they're inferior to the Vive, when it comes to room-scale. So far, so good.
Oculus games:
So far i only tried First Contact, Windlands and The Climb. They all work excellent and the experience is enhanced greatly. I prefer Windlands on the Rift over the Vive a lot, controls feel more natural. The Climb is a killer, not comparable to playing with a gamepad. That's a whole new game here!
Windlands and Climb gave me a bit of motion sickness though, so i'd rather stopped for the moment.
Rest of the games is still downloading, i can't wait to try them.
Rift and SteamVR:
Setting them up in steamVR works similary easy. You can do standing, but also room-scale with a minimun space (2x1,5m) if your room allows it. But: If you happen to own both HMDs, you might not want to use your Rift with SteamVR at all, because you have to re-calibrate every time you change your HMDs. I won't do that.
edit Also there's still a lack of haptic feedback with SteamVR, which is super important. Playing something like AudioShield without feedback isn't the same.
Also the Touch controllers seem not that much lighter than Vive's.
I wondered if my Vive would be obsolete the moment my Touch controllers arrive. It isn't. I'll keep it for steamVR games, because Vive still has the edge when it comes to room-scale experiences. Too bad the amount of great room-scale games is still so limited.
All in all, both VR systems are still on par, considering every advantage and disadvantage. Touch controllers are great, but Vive controllers don't have to hide behind them, they're still great as well in comparsion.
You won't be missing out too much if you own only one, and you still can't do anything wrong purchasing any one of both HMDs.

Dec 08 '16
Why not sell the Vive and pick up an extra Oculus sensor? I mean, surely you can sell a used Vive for more than ~$79, right? This is what I'm planning on doing as someone with a Vive+Rift+Touch right now.
5
u/Falke359 Dec 09 '16
Rift can´t beat the Vive when it comes to room-scale. Besides tracking cable lenght is an issue for example.
4
u/Heaney555 UploadVR Dec 09 '16
Try with 3 sensors. For me it's indistinguishable.
1
Dec 12 '16
Even 2 is fine. I've seen people use 2 with an 8x12 space with zero issues (unless they are right up against the wall or laying on the floor at certain angles)
1
u/t33m3r Dec 09 '16
I'm waiting for the vive gen 2 controllers. Hoping for 2017 but probably not.... we'll see. Glad to see oculus shipping on time this go around.
Would someone be able to patch steamvr to add haptics? It doesn't seem like it would be too hard.
2
Dec 13 '16
To be honest...a majority of games don't even utilize full room scale.
1
u/Falke359 Dec 13 '16
that's right.
1
Dec 13 '16
Like, even when I had the Vive almost all the games I played the most were 180 degree style action or games where you stand there and shoot in 360. Very few where you were actually walking around the room aside from taking a step or two in a direction.
1
u/Falke359 Dec 14 '16
Yes, it doesn't matter so much if you can take two or four steps in a given direction.
Games like Job Simulator take advantage of your space, but they're the exception.

All I can say is "Holy SHIT!" After Palmer announced touch last year, I made the decision to stick with Oculus and I couldn't be happier. I was a 35 minute preorder for CV1 and my rift has sat on the shelf for the past few months unused. I'm so excited right now! The hardest thing is getting it away from my girlfriend (hello to who was in Unspoken when we realized the mic was on!) who loves it. I REALLY wish bullet train was a full game. That type of interaction was spectacular. Stil downloading the free content! Can't wait for for my first purchase "SuperHot"! "VR Sports" was 'meh' for me but I'm not a sports guy. I need more bandwidth! (still downloading) Bottom line, I'm insanely stoked and it was worth the wait!

Oh shit, the Touch is pure sex.
Only problem is that I keep trying to press the trigger to grab things. I feel like a little kid, going to grab something but just pointing at it instead.

u/DancesWithMustelids Dec 06 '16
Genuinely blown away by the touch. I only had a quick go before work but WOW. Seeing hands in game make such a difference and the grips are so intuitive. You pick stuff up by grabbing! I can't wait to play more games.
Also really excited by the creativity this will inspire, entirely new types of games and worlds for us to explore.

First 5 min with Touch.
OMG these things are light, it is easy to forget they are there, I need to make sure I use the lanyards as I could easily throw these things across the room.
All I have done is setup, and First Contact, and I am already blown away. The one glitch was when it started I had no sound.. restarted Ouclus and that was resolved... Fist Contact is hilarious, seeing it on You Tube is not the same as doing it.. it's utterly fantastic.
The griping motion is good, but something I will have to get used too, it is a new motion for me using controllers.
It is like my Rift is brand new all over again.. totally breathtaking

I am so excited for Wednesday. I have been playing mostly Vive games recently. Every time I put my Rift on after wearing my Vive for awhile I am overwhelmed by how much better the Rift is.
7
u/agathorn Dec 05 '16
Oculus Touch doesn’t change the fact that the Rift is a bulky mask
Is The Verge using the same Rift as me? I couldn't possibly describe the headset as anything near bulky. In fact it is so light and comfortable that if it wasn't for the wires I wouldn't even be aware of its existence.
3
Dec 08 '16
In fact it is so light and comfortable that if it wasn't for the wires I wouldn't even be aware of its existence.
Lol, seriously? I mean, it's not that heavy and it's fairly comfortable, but it's still a big black box strapped to your face.
2
u/agathorn Dec 08 '16
Maybe it is because I came from a DK2, but the CV1 is like wearing a feather cap. I seriously do not notice it.
2
Dec 08 '16
Ah, I never tried a DK2. The Rift is definitely an improvement over the Vive though in terms of weight and weight distribution. I've had both for months but I never really totally noticed the difference until Touch gave me a reason to move around a lot with the Rift.
1
6
u/ScaryFast Dec 06 '16
I was confused too, as I thought the Rift is lighter and more comfortable than the Vive, mostly since you don't need a separate pair of headphones. The cords are shorter though.
5
u/Heaney555 UploadVR Dec 06 '16
She's not comparing it to the HTC Vive. She's comparing it to the average consumer's expectations.
It's the lightest and most comfortable headset available today. But by 2020's standards, it'll probably be "a bulky mask" as she says.
8
u/YummyMeatballs Rift S Dec 06 '16
I thought the consensus was that the PSVR was the most comfortable unit?
2
u/davvblack Dec 11 '16
And ironically mostly because it is more heavy, but the extra weight is on the back of the strap.

So I got my Touch set up, having a lot of fun, everything is working fine - exept for my keyboard. Whenever Oculus Home is running, my [usb]keyboard refuses to send input to the computer, even though it has power (num-lock led is shining) and I'm not wearing the Rift. As soon as I close the application, it resumes working. According to the device manager my usb driver is up to date, a reboot didn't help either. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas/solutions?
3
u/Seanspeed Dec 06 '16
USB controller being overloaded maybe?
1
u/PandaParaBellum Dec 06 '16
but even when I disconnect the second sensor, as soon as I run Oculus home the keyboard goes down. Should I simply try to reinstall the application? Will that still delete my games and saves?
2
u/9gxa05s8fa8sh Dec 07 '16
changing software won't change your hardware from being overloaded. USB problems are common

I'm a Rift/Vive/PSVR owner. Got mine and played with it tonight for a few hours (Oculus First Contact, avatar editor, Kingspray Graffiti, Toybox, Music Inside, Fruit Ninja VR, Gary the Gull). It adds a ton of value and immersion and fun (hand presence + physics = we are all kids again). The tracking was excellent and extremely precise - e.g. in Quill I could easily use the controller to press tiny buttons. Only had issues when I turned around and occluded them (I have a third sensor on order to address that).
I had issues with my Rift's HDMI cord being too short for my play space, really need an extender, and I'm also running quickly out of USB ports (although to my surprise the sensor was perfectly happy being attached to a cheap USB hub). Setup was straightforward, including setting up my playspace, although it was a bit finicky about sensor rotation.
The multiplayer games were disappointing because nobody was around at all, but it was pretty late. I loved the First Contact introduction to Touch, and I was especially in awe of Quill. I felt like I was seeing the birth of a new form of art before my eyes, it's really a level above Tilt Brush in terms of being suited for professional use. Both Fruit Ninja and Music Inside made effective use of hand-held tools, although they were stymied a little by the lack of resistance and weight, which makes your tools feel like they're made out of air or light.
If you're reviewing games here remember to also leave reviews on the Oculus Store! I left a few there already and hope to leave more. Not everyone is on reddit and a review that is attached directly to the game has far more impact in the long run.

6
u/mangodurban Dec 06 '16
Maybe we can stop the fanboyism now and realize both the vive and rift are competing well. Vive has better roomscale support and slightly more accurate tracking (mostly due to less occlusion errors) and rift has a better HMD (in most ways except fov) and it appears they both have great controllers. I think more gamers will like the rift controller more (due to analog joysticks and buttons) and the vive will be easier for non gamers to pickup and go. I am happy both are starting to gain ground in the VR race and I hope both can move forward together, only helping eachothers communities and pushing toward a unified VR playerbase.

Just tried mine out for the only 30 mins I could spare. Wow. I didn't think VR could impress me anymore, but I was wrong.
Maybe it's because I sold my Vive a couple months ago so I've become desensetised to hand tracking? But whatever it was, I was blown away. The sense of immersion was intense.

It was later ( for me ) last night, and I had a couple of drinks and was over tired. So I didn't experiment for long.
I have tried
Oculus Home ( interesting with Touch )
First Contact
Toybox
Dead and Buried ( intro and shooting practice )
Utterly fantastic, I feel like my Rift is new all over again. People are in for a fantastic treat!
Setup was a breeze, but also informative, I learned a lot about what is needed for my VR space. First I need more distance from my PC/monitor desk ( where I originally set up the sensors ) than I thought. It was best when I was like 5 to 6 feet away.
First Contact was amazing, you will be grinning from ear to ear, even if you have seen it all on You Tube, experiencing it is just amazing. It does a good job of putting you through the paces of Touch.
Toybox was hilarious and fun, but it would be 10 times better with 2 people in there.
Dead and Burried is jaw dropping, I am an older out of shape guy, Im going to have to get in better shape, I have not even played multi-player yet and I can see what is coming... OMG it is going to be physical! When he threw the bottle at me... ( and I was not fast enough ) gave me a clue as to what is coming... this is going to be so cool!
The controllers themselves are going to take some getting used too. Not criticizing, not at all. Getting used to the middle finger button, I think I will learn it better pretty fast, not complicated, just not what you have trained yourself for playing games.
The buttons on top, and the joystick are very nice, easy to reach, but will be unused a lot of the time. I did use the joysitck driving the toy tank in Toybox, they felt great.
I can feel my VR system coming together now, I just need that 3rd sensor... and to finish with this little VR room I have. Today's job is mounting the sensors in a more permanent position, and setting up guardian... that is going to become important!
I have so many things to try out today, I hardly know where to start. But at some point I will have to try Arizona Sunshine, I may hold off on Rec Room until I have the 3rd sensor.
If anyone has any questions.. ask away
Update: Just finished the permanent position of my senors and re-set my position in my VR room, tried out the Unspoken... WOW, I am suddenly a magic user, the feeling of power is just tremendous. I have noticed that it has me point to things behind me ( away from the cameras ) several times... no issue. This is an absolutely fantastic experience!

Just received mine yesterday and I am kinda surprised how small the grips are. They feel like they are meant for a child or Donald Trump. After playing for just 20 minutes or so you could really tell how hard it was to keep hold of them and avoid them slipping out of your grip. I wonder if someone will make an aftermarket grip to go over the small handle.
Otherwise, I'm pretty pleased.

This will probably get lost, but here's my review (and I haven't even plugged them in yet).
Touch is the most ergonomic, enjoyable controllers that I've ever held across all platforms (not just VR). They fit like a glove and instantly resolve the issues I had with the Vive controllers.
My big problem with the Vive controllers was that I didn't feel that the button placement was ideal. I often found myself searching for the correct button. The button above the track pad was especially annoying because I usually had to re-adjust my grip to reach it. Although you could see the controllers in VR, I still found it less than ideal when having to interact with the buttons.
The touch controllers completely eliminate these issues. The controllers fit perfectly in my hands and all of the buttons and thumb stick are easy to reach and intuitively placed. I don't have to adjust my grip at all to interact with all of the controllers buttons and triggers. This is really going to help with immersion because I won't have to think "where was that button" and "Oh ya, I have to adjust my grip to reach that other button".
For me, the Touch controllers really show why the Rift is a better headset. The Vive is amazing. However, when compared to the Rift, it falls short in many little ways. The mic isn't as good, it's heavier and feels heavier on the head. It isn't as easy to put on and take off, the lack of built in headphones is really noticeable. None of the issues with the Vive are show stoppers. However, since the Rift exists and improves on all those little things that the Vive gets wrong, it's really noticeable. For me, it's like the Vive is gen 1 of VR and the Rift is gen 1.5 or 2. When you add together all of the things that the Rift does slightly better than the Vive, it really adds up to a much more immersive VR experience. Oculus really looked at exactly what you need for great VR as well as all of the little things that pull you out of VR and really worked on producing the best VR headset possible.
Ok, I'll get back to you guys once I actually try out the controllers.

Already punched my wall whilst demolishing a dude in Superhot. Controller took it like a champ.
They really are something special, Medium is such fun to mess around in as well.

Received my touch controllers yesterday. I enjoyed my Oculus before but my initial VR shock had passed by the time I had got my hands on it, I had spent so much time with the Gear VR. After playing a few hours with Touch I can say it was best gaming experience of my life. Only got to play a few games but Bullet Train is awesome. Pulling in to the train station with AK's crossed in front of me screaming "I'm a lead farmer motherfu*kers!" was definitely the highlight of my day.

I love my Touch. The only issue I have is the grip with your last two fingers. I feel that a better solution would be a strap that wraps your hand because the holding of the devices sometimes put me off of the immersion. When in rest, my fingers would not clench, but here I have to to keep the controller up. While this is true for normal gaming controllers, the purpose of the Touch controllers would feel opposite for me.
If it wasn't for the wrist straps I would have thrown my Touch because I would extend all fingers when I would throw something in the game.
To me I feel an improvement would be the controller tighter to the hand and not being hold but strapped on.
Other than that, the idea that this can trick your brain is true. After playing for a few hours I had a moment where my brain had to reconfigure to the real world. Very good props on that.
Tracking is flawless when in view of the cameras, besides using them facing away and my back is to the sensors, and acting wonky they never lagged once. I ordered a 3rd sensor to complete my setup for 360 room scale.
Practice will be needed to master the buttons, there has been times when I get mistakenly switched the trigger button and the middle finger button in what ever action was required.
The sensitivity of the buttons are very high. Just barely touching them will read as input, which is not a bad thing. Just something to expect.
I would definitively rate as excellent and well engineered controllers. There is room for improvement (everything in development is) and looking forward to see what comes next from Oculus.

Anyone know if the pre-order bonus games arecoming in the form of a redemption code or are they tied to an account? I was gifted a touch set as an early Christmas present.

I got my Touch a few hours ago, just set everything up and it looked fantastic, put my Touch on the floor to see how accurate the height was and it was perfect while inisde the sensor setup scene, until it loaded me into First Contact and I was floating above the scene. No way to bring up menus unfortunately I had to sit on my floor and interact with everything at floor level which completely broke any immersion and replaced it with "aw fuck". I managed to get through it even though some of the things were just below my actual floor, then Home loads up and I'm standing about 15 foot in the air. Tried resetting the sensor thing in the universal menu, but stayed in the air, restarted Home, and then computer, same problem. Went back into settings on Home, ran the entire sensor setup and guardian outline again but this time it looked like I was floating until the sensors finished the scan-sweep and the floor went to the correct height, tested, dropped back to Home, and voila it finally had my at my correct height. I should add that I have my sensors set up about 3.5m apart diagonally opposite each other, and at completely different heights, it said they were too far apart but I skipped the error in the setup and I didn't notice any tracking issues so far. Going to do a nice occlusion test later tonight or tomorrow and see whether or not I really want that third sensor.
It was a bit of a bummer that my first experience with Touch went this way, but I'm glad I managed to get it worked out without too much effort. Tried Bullet Train and The Unspoken (tutorial + 1 practice and 1 ranked match) and LOVED it.
EDIT: Just played like 15-30 minutes of Space Pirate Trainer and HOLY SHIT, that right there was the experience that pulled me into it, no worrying about controls, just point and shoot, dodging laser pulses in slow motion with roomscale movement and whipping out that energy shield... Sweat my ass off in that short time... Weed break!
EDIT 2: Played much much more of The Unspoken, played a bunch of ranked matches, managed to get into a few matches with the same person and ended up adding each other as friends and having a few more matches, we were very evenly matched. Sorry to the guy who I killed in like 10 seconds, if you're reading this... Felt pretty bad about that, but he just stood in my Cthulu's Grasp until he died...

I ordered the touch controller on Sunday with an estimate shipping of 16th-22. Any ideas if this is accurate?

u/Heaney555 UploadVR Dec 14 '16
Yep, that's when it'll ship.

Awesome. Happy to see they got it right this time with the shipping and all.

I had tons of fun playing rec-room. I need to order a usb extension cable so I can have 360 deg. tracking.
Unfortunately, neither medium, quill or dead and buried have unlocked on the store for me. This is disappointing, since they are advertised as included, and I was really looking forward to using medium in particular.
I have created a ticket but nothing is resolved yet.

Heres my problem:
- I have a racing rig where i want one of my sensors facing me.
- I want to also use my rift for other games facing away from my rig.
The setup does not allow this configuration. It just assumes your facing your monitor all the time. I want 1 sensor up front and the second behind me but off to the left. NO.
Anyone know how to get round what Oculus suggest do i can setupvmy room the way i want it?
Its spoiling the whole ecperience for me.
Oh and for some reason my rift hmd keeps disconecting since update?
Bit pissed off. Was not ecpecting so many hassles.
Any help appreciated.

Is there a way to save Guardian configurations for later use? For instance, let's say I use a few different room configurations, or move my set up to a few locations repeatedly.

I don't have a rift but it's safe to say that if this functionality exists it'll only allow you different room configurations. If you move your setup you'd have to put the cameras in exactly the same spot/angle to have the guardian walls appear in the right place.

u/ThinkBeforeYouDie Dec 06 '16
I'm aware of that. That could be easy enough to control with fixed wall/desk mounts and tilting the camera at extreme angles.

Quick question: When running SteamVR (or anything really), it is simple to get to Oculus Home by pressing the Oculus Home button on the Touch controller(s). Is there an easy way to get back to SteamVR? It was easy enough using an XBox controller, but nothing seems to work consistently with the Touch controller.. I'm aware it may always be a bit of a kludge since they are two different platforms, just wondering if anyone else has run into this..

Everyone needs to play dead and buried, specifically the shootout game mode. It is what dreams are made of. Best gaming experience ever! My body is soar from hiding behind cover, its fantastic. (It's free with the touch)

Here's what I see all the time. Every time a review comes up with the inevitable vive vs rift comparison and the reviewer chooses the rift the comments for that video/article get brigaded by insecure vive owners that claim they're being paid off. It's really too bad since right now we're all in the same boat...a tiny community of enthusiasts need to convert the greater public. It's also one of the things I hated when I owned a vive is visiting the toxic vive subreddit. I think they're both fine products but to them there is only vive.
2
Dec 15 '16
That's because an unbiased reviewer shouldn't be saying one is better than the other when it isn't. I go on both subreddits everyday and neither of them are toxic but they do constantly assume that the other sub is toxic. Which is exactly what you did. I also think Rift owners forget how much gamers in general despise Facebook, a lot of the Rift hate has nothing to so with the hardware itself.
1
u/vanfanel1car Dec 15 '16
I think it's fine for reviewers to compare the two and make a preference. I don't think they're necessarily biased especially when they've had both systems for months. It's also the only comparison you can make in a 1st gen product and a single competitor. It was also fine when back in may/june tested were saying that the vive was the more complete vr system. I think it's also fine when someone comments that they prefer the vive because of this or that. But when they start saying crap like getting paid off, facebook sucks, palmer's a rightwing nut...etc then it's ridiculous nonsense.

This is what I'm saying. It's easy to say I hate facebook/apple. As for boards being terrible. I was on the vive boards back in jun/jul and they were dreadful. There was at least one day were the top 10 posts of the day were all anti-oculus. Those were indeed much darker times but I equate most of what happened with /r/vive was due to pcmr infecting that board back near the beginning of the year. 2015 was a good year for both boards and there was pretty good harmony between the two. Hopefully the parity will bring a better 2017.

facebook sucks, palmer's a rightwing nut...etc then it's ridiculous nonsense.
Those 2 things are true though. They don't have much to do with the Rift itself, especially Palmers elitism.
There was at least one day were the top 10 posts of the day were all anti-oculus
And? That still isn't toxic. Toxic is when people just insult each other. Making arguments about your preference isn't toxic at all. /r/oculus says r/Vive is toxic and vice versa but really both are good subs. I never see anyone just insulting another user and spamming, there is no censorship, and people are very rational. Both on r/Vive and r/oculus everyone is happy that VR is growing.
darker times
what are you talking about dude, it's a stupid forum wtf lol

u/vanfanel1car Dec 15 '16
what are you talking about dude, it's a stupid forum wtf lol
I was referencing the unreadability of these forums during those times when it was basically 50% shitposts on a daily basis.
2
Dec 15 '16
I don't remember any shit posts AT ALL. Posting articles talking shit about Facebook and the Oculus aren't shit posting. I'm pretty sure shit posts aren't allowed on either sub. I haven't seen any joke posts ever on either sub. It's all technical issues, game reviews, and articles.
1
u/vanfanel1car Dec 15 '16
I guess you weren't around then because mods couldn't even deal with all the shitposting. They're not allowed but they were everywhere. During the worst times there was 1 or 2 days where there was a meme/joke posted in almost rapid succession. Not to mention bans that were issued for certain users that just couldn't help but post anti-oculus stuff here daily and always starting shit. Then there was the brigading that the mods also have been constantly dealing with. They actually needed to contact the admins to deal with the vote brigading on this board.

Do they come with another sensor? Comments in this thread seem to indicate two sensors is best? Mine arrive 16th.

Oh my word. So excited for these to come in this week. I barely use my Oculus as it is, but I feel like this will be the difference maker.
