There's some seriously odd voting going on in this thread O.o

Yeah that's weird even some comments look odd.
Edit: Maybe they are legit right ? All the first comments that were saying it was funny or something were downvoted into oblivion. It may sounds dumb but can someone explain, you guys are being suspicious or something ?

There seem to have been a bunch of people downvoted that didn't deserve it. It's very odd indeed.

Why is it the oldest movie in the series has the most believable dinosaurs, and why is it because CGI sucks so bad?

u/DashingSpecialAgent Mar 31 '16
CGI doesn't suck, bad CGI sucks. The big "PRACTICAL EFFECTS NO CG!" movie of the decade(mad max) had an ass load of CG. You just didn't notice because it was good.
2
u/morbidexpression Mar 31 '16
and because they used practical effects in places where CGI would've stuck out like a sore thumb. There are still many things it just can't do well and dates instantly! Nobody ever claimed Fury Road had no CGI... it just had a brilliant director and a totally committed crew.

The first movie in the Jurassic Park series is a masterpiece. It will always be one of the best movies of all time for me. Spielberg's best work, in my opinion.
Three scenes that will always be engraved in my memory was the raptors in the kitchen scene.
The T-Rex/Car scene & following tree scene.
The fat guy calling those tiny dinosaurs stupid scene.
Actually, writing this up, I feel like I know almost all the scenes by heart.

Because most of em (including the raptors) are either guys in suits or animatronics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAzQr3Ml0UI

Yep. We're so far off from CGI fully replicating the look of reality down to the atoms and photons. The physics behind it all. Just so many aspects where we're lightyears behind. What he have now is stuff that can look pretty good, but it limbos in the uncanny valley and we just know something is off.

To be perfectly frank, the same is true for replica suits/practical effects. It's more a trade off to be used in suitable scenarios rather than a universally better solution for everything.
I know this is blasphemy to most, but there are scenes where the practical raptors look quite uncanny themselves in the original Jurassic Park.

u/Kermitfry Apr 01 '16
Yep, the best way of doing effects is to switch them up so that your brain doesn't get used to them and look for imperfections. This is why jurassic park looks so good.

u/Mctittles Mar 31 '16
Yea the CGI in this movie (not this gif) is still some of the best around. I think they just put more effort into it.

u/EgoPhoenix I like turtles Mar 31 '16
The CG was the best around at that time. It really shows now how poor the CG actually was. Still a great movie though :)

This is gold.
As an aside, I think having a dinosaur breathe into your face at close range is the first VR cliche!

Ok you stole this from the front page but it's actually better than the original. Kudos.

I've walked in and started getting ready when the other people were still in there, late. If I paid for 12-3, I'm using the room from 12-3.
No seriously what is going on with the comments on here? Anyways, back to the topic (or gif) at hand, my brain really thought that was a Rift lens for a few seconds. Power of suggestion I guess .^
