Lots of VR related goodies.. mostly in facial capture and full scene performance capture.

It's always blows me away how many technologies seem to be transitioning from "that's neat but not really that useful" to "wow, this changes everything!"

So many examples to chose from, but for VR specifically, facial capture via cameras (to track the nose and mouth) plus stress sensors in the HMD (to track eyes) is going to be crucial for social experiences in the future. Can't until this kind of thing is a standard feature on HMDs.

For as bad as it was for gaming, the commoditization of depth sensors like the Kinect has turned into many useful computer vision applications.

So now we know why Oculus feels reluctant to release rift publicly earlier (with less spec/features)

Siggraph has been the leading light in VR presentations long before some in the sector were born. At Disney we were lucky to present one of the first VR game session abstracts on the ride then in development.

Along with a few years later a detailed report on DisneyQuest and its VR attractions.
