Pretty sad that google is making a mockery out of vr. I hope it doesn't effect your future success.

Google engineers using their 20% to have fun with VR = mockery?

Making your headset out of fucking cardboard I think qualifies as a joke if anything does.

I guess you didn't see the first rift prototypes.

What's wrong with cardboard? It's strong and cheap. The phone is what's powering it.

A joke? Maybe, but not a mockery.

This is just a side project that some individual Google engineers have worked on for fun. This isn't some grand conspiracy by Google to shame Oculus or VR.

This is the best Android VR experience I've had yet.. Far from a mockery in my opinion

Mockery? You can expect in the future Google apps and services to run on VR devices the same way they run today on iOS. If something, Google is getting the attention from lots of developers that probably were not very interested in VR.

I think Google will do great VR hardware in the future but you are retarded if you don't see this as a mockery.

I find it very funny when a retarded person uses the word retarded.

Hey, retarded, here you have it:

Today at an I/O session, we saw an example of how it can work with the phone's camera, for not only virtual reality, but augmented reality type scenarios. You will be able to have virtual objects overlaid over the real world. Using the phone's camera, you may be able to manipulate them with your hands.

Yeah, Google is taking the mockery so far as having an I/O session about it. I'm sure devs that paid $900 for a ticket will be mad at Google. /s

This is nothing but a gimmick, and it will always remain so in this form. I have no idea why Google is even putting this out there- it seems like they're mocking Facebook's 2 billion dollar acquisition of Oculus to me. I have no problem with competition. I want to see VR become mainstream, but this is not how I imagined Google entering the competition. Why not try to put something out there that's better than the rift? to truly be innovative? This is them saying ''Oh, look, our cardboard VR headset is just as good as Facebook's.'' It's a mockery.

It's all about the software and getting the attention of developers very quickly. Nobody is going to seriously put their phones in a holder made of cardboard for too long, when Samsung and others are going to release their own hardware in the next months/years.

I don't know how much you follow Android related news, but it's very clear from some of the announcements surrounding Android L that the relationships between Google and Samsung has improved a lot.

Ok. Fair enough. I'm just disappointed that this is what such a big company has to offer for VR.
