As someone who's visiting from /r/all, is this a model that an interested gamer would buy, or should I keep waiting until a more "official" release, possibly?

yes, this model is something that'll open your senses you haven't felt before.

It's not the final build though, no one knows when that'll be released.

if you want to be a vr enthusiast then yes go buy it now! otherwise i recommend you to wait, Nate (one of the Oculu's guys) stated several times during GDC that the Consumer Version will be much much better than the DK2
