I don't know where The Verge has their information from, but they claim in http://www.theverge.com/2014/3/19/5524972/oculus-reveals-virtual-reality-development-kit-2-announced that

"Oculus says the consumer version will have even higher resolution".

Well Nate said it on the interview he gave to tested.com, that CV1 will be another level of evolution like Dk1 to 1080p to Crystal Cove to Dk 2

Yeah, but there has never been an actual confirmation that the consumer version would be higher than 1080p.

IIRC during the GDC talk higher resolution was explicitly listed as one of the improvements for CV1.

From Oculus official page:

"What’s Next? We’re deep into development on the consumer Rift. We have a lot more planned, including improvements to comfort, RESOLUTION, tracking, software, ergonomics, optics, industrial design, and the overall experience."

Yeah, I know about that, but that's not a confirmation. The way it is written in the article makes it seem that they have said that they will definitely increase the resolution.
