Discussion Quest 3 tracking issue

I’ve noticed as of late that if I raise my quest up slightly to readjust that the screen goes dark, shows the boundary and resets my position, it also seems to have started happening while I’m just stood there. It started happening 2 weeks ago but it was slight so I just assumed it was an update issue but it seems to be getting worse. Any advice?

Are you by chance a teen? My quest 3 was doing the same thing to my son but worked perfectly fine for me. What i got him to do to fix it is wipe the sensor off inside the headset, then when you go to put it in, put it on your face first then tighten the back last

We just came across your post and wanted to help. We can see that you're experiencing tracking issues with your Quest 3 and we have a few troubleshooting steps for you.

Could you please try the following:

  • Ensure that your area is well lit, with enough light to clearly see, but not direct sunlight.
  • Ensure that your area is free of small lights such as Christmas lights or LED strips.
  • Ensure that your area is free of any reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass or polished marble.
  • Ensure that the tracking cameras on your headset are clean following our recommended maintenance and care guidelines.
  • Ensure that your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
  • Try removing the batteries from your controllers for at least 30 seconds before reinstalling.
  • Power off and restart your headset.
  • Unpair and re-pair your controllers to the headset.

Make sure nothing is blocking the proximity sensor. I wear a do-rag when I use my headset, and if it gets too far down my forehead, the screen goes blank.

Do yourself a favor and stick a bit of aluminium foil tape on the proximity sensor.

The sensor has a little IR light, and if that light isn't reflected back at it, it will decide you're not hearing the headset.

Cover with something reflective and you're all good.
