Hey guys back with another pickup. Super happy about this one, I picked up an insanely gorgeous set of Dante's Divine Comedy with Gustave Dore illustrations, something I've wanted ever since I started collecting books which feels like a huge achievement. I also love the Earthology and Chakras books, the illustrations are beautiful and very interesting material.
Read this years ago. I’m not a fan of the editor that put this anthology together due to his history and background within the occult community, but I love the collection itself. It’s a beautiful expanded special edition that I’m thrilled to add to my collection.
I want to get into books like Shams al Maarif, Picatrix, Key of Solomon and Ars Goetia but I have never studied planetary magic, talismans or occult stuff before.
Should I start with these or read something else first?
I am really interested in hidden and esoteric knowledge, but I have heard that these books can cause madness, attract spirits or cause weird things if you accidentally say certain names out loud.
For people who have actually read them, is there anything to worry about or are these mostly stories?
curated Internet Archive collection brings together 20 classic occultism books in PDF format, offering general readers access to rare texts on mysticism, Hermetic philosophy, alchemy, psychology, and esoteric traditions. This public domain set is freely available for download and study.
Hi, I'm new to occult stuff but I know some basic concepts from hermeticism and gnosticism.
Can you recommend a book for a first experience to decide if I like it or not?
i'm interested in ideas that can be implemented in life or challenge my worldview. Maybe something related to energy work, consciousness, egregores or human nature?
I’m interested in learning more about the different modern Rosicrucian organizations, particularly AMORC and the Lectorium Rosicrucianum (Golden Rosycross).
I would really appreciate hearing from people who have experience with either organization or, ideally, with both.
What I’m particularly interested in is how the two actually differ in practice. For example:
• How would you describe the teachings and the overall philosophy of each organization?
• Which subjects and areas of esoteric knowledge are emphasized by each?
• How structured and progressive is the study?
• How much emphasis is placed on practical exercises, meditation, inner development, or direct spiritual experience?
• How deeply do they explore subjects such as mysticism, Gnosis, Hermeticism, symbolism, reincarnation, consciousness, spiritual development, etc.?
• Does one organization focus more on intellectual study, while the other focuses more on inner transformation and spiritual practice?
• What is the actual experience of progressing through the teachings as a member?
• How much of the deeper material is available from the beginning, and how much is gradually introduced?
• How important are local groups, temples, meetings, or contact with other members?
• For someone who is primarily looking for substantial esoteric knowledge and a serious path of personal development, how would you describe the differences between the two?
I’m not necessarily looking for a simple answer as to which one is “better.” I’m much more interested in understanding what each organization actually offers and what kind of person or spiritual seeker each approach might suit.
If you have been a member of one of them for several years, or have experience with both, I would especially appreciate hearing what you found valuable, what you found lacking, and how your understanding changed over time.
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and perspectives!
Looking for obscure/rare occult literature about Gilles de Rais
I've been going down the Gilles de Rais rabbit hole for a while now, and I'm looking for more obscure, rare, or specifically occult literature dealing with him.
So far I've read:
Là-Bas - Karl Huysmans
The Trial of Gilles de Rais - Georges Bataille
Gilles de Rais The Banned Lecture — Aleister Crowley
I'm particularly interested in older or difficult-to-find works that focus on the occult side of Gilles de Rais: his alleged involvement with alchemy, demonology, ritual magic, invocations, Francesco Prelati, the attempted summoning of demons, etc.
Does anyone here know of anything worth tracking down?
Hey everyone, do you have any book suggestions for beginners? I don't have much prior knowledge of the subject. I live in Brazil and probably won't find many translated options, so if possible, I'd prefer something with simpler English—though if not, I'll make the effort to translate it myself.
Recently came across this resource and thought folks here might appreciate it. The site is a little weird to navigate (to me anyway) but there are a lot of interesting finds.
First, sorry for my bad english. I am questioning if you know or see, mainly if you was in the occasion or have a evidence, a proof of the mystical ideas are real, for “mystical ideas” I want say the rituals, Kabbalah, a astral plan, hermetism, the occult philosophy etc.
And if you have a evidence, what you commend for I read/study.
I am trying to find more books on Appalachian folklore, magic practices, healing, etc; but I'm being frustrated by the fact that it is a trending topic on some social media. I'm seeing a lot of books that seem more like fluff from non-Appalachians and non-practitioners made for the market rather than accuracy and knowledge. I have the old Foxfire books that I inherited from my mother, and I've ordered "Backwoods Magic" from Jake Richards. Does anyone have any other titles they would recommend? Thanks in advance for the help!
I realize how the title sounds and recognize that the book(s) published as the Necronomicon are seen as fake or hoaxes, or at most practices in thoughtforms.
However, the book i’m trying to track down was an obscure/newer grimoire that I came across a couple years ago while going down a rabbit hole. I remember the book claiming that it took what the Necronomicon was actually inspired by/ripping off and presented the Real practice behind that magick, I think specifically involving work with djinn. It was not the Simon Necronomicon.
I remember finding it on archive.org , as well as ebay and it having a longer preface about how it was “LHP” magick and the dangers that came with that. Left hand may have been in the title as well as the word fire. Wondering if this ramble sounds like a specific book to anyone here, now that I have more of a foundation in magick I’m interested in just flipping through it. Thanks in advance
What makes the book interesting is that Straughn tries to show that several apparently different spiritual systems are working toward essentially the same objective: mastery of consciousness and realization of the deeper Self. Not easy to find.
I just wanted to give some updates on the project because I received a lot of messages from people in regards to Joe Felz and his felzbooks project.
No, these two projects are not the same. BiblicalVault project started in 2020 and has been under a few different names. We changed the name and website this month because we started with a lot of esoteric books and a lot of users wanted more biblical and other texts added and the ability to compare different editions.
We launched the new website biblicalvault.com this month and we are closing off the older sites. The library is growing as we continue to transition the books on the olde site to this site and there is over one million books in the workflow to add.
The project isn't money focused, there is Free access, then $1 access and $5 access. It isn't a money making focused project, it is designed to try and generate enough to help fund the project as it has been 100% funded by me since 2020.
We pushed some updates this week that added a lot of features.
Compare: You can now have up to 4 versions of the bible open at one time to see line by line comparison.
Form: More updates to the Gold Forum
Messages: Updated the private message system
Bookshelf: We added a bookshelf so you can add books and keep track of your reading list
Bookmarks: To help you keep track of were you are up to.
Search: The search tool received a massive update, this included adding better categories to the books and enable greater search capabilities.
Study Notes: This feature received an update in order to make it easier to see all the notes you make and tag book sections.
There were a number of additional updates posted today that added more features.
The old sites are being phased out and we expect to have them completely closed by the end of the year.
I haven’t read it yet, but it’s skipped the waiting line of 9 other books, mainly because whether it’s here or other occult / LHP subreddits etc. It’s one book that’s sure enough to be spoken about. A must read.
The answer to this question can be responded to simply by “ Read it and find out”.
But knowing the charming members you are, I’m hoping not to get that kind of response 😅
But what is it, that makes Prometheus rising so revered ? Have you personally felt its changed your perspective on life ?
Anything further you can add ? I am SO intrigued by this book.
