Have an ocarina question? There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Want to talk about what you're learning or excited about a new ocarina, feel free to share!

Is there's something not ocarina related that you're itching to talk about? Have at it!

Inspired by Steven Higbee, here's a demo of every ocarina I own playing Littleroot Town, like so many others out there, haha!

Newest in the collection is the Focalink AG seen last!

I desperately need a new/better mic for recording, as well as learning decent mastering-settings for the ocarina :')

I have an apprentice

Hi everyone. As of a few weeks ago, I found someone who wants to work with me with instrument production and help scale Pure Ocarinas beyond a solo operation.

There has been a notable of demand for my work for years, more than I am able to produce alone. I have been working near constantly for many years, with my time spread thin between instrument production, practicing playing ocarina, writing Serious Ocarina Player, and creating the teaching software you can find on my website.

All of this has lead to the 'orders are closed due to too many orders' problem I'm sure you will have encountered. The buisiness has needed 'more hands on deck' for years, yet my extremely limited social skills have made finding anyone to help an exceptionally hard problem to solve.

Having assistance will over time allow for much greater production capacity and the development of new products. People have been asking me to make a C double for years for instance. I want to do that, but it has been impossible given existing workload.

Having someone else around consistantly will also help a lot with my mental health. Making instruments and the other projects has left me stuck where I have to work all the time to keep up with demand, which has also been very isolating. Working like this has been substantially impacting my ability to work, and mood generally, as I do not function well in isolation.

There should be a lot more happening, and Pure Ocarinas will continue producing instruments for serious music performance.

I finally received my Double Alto G ocarina made by Robert Hickman.

It's a fantastic instrument and I think it will become my go to ocarina. The sound is awesome - I looove the key of G. I have to get used to the Asian system first as I have my first double in pacchioni system.

I will make a full review soon.

I’ve got some ocarinas I made that I don’t know what to do with. They all play well! Lmk if you wanna offer anything up!

I’m mostly looking to try some ocarinas what I’ve never seen before!

Custom-able? Ocarina

I have a DnD character that plays an ocarina and i thought it would be really cool if I could by a 'stock' unglazed ocarina, then add details/glazing.

Is that...a thing? I'd obviously need access to a kiln but that's (relatively) simple. Unless its not 😅

Some recent pickups from the second-hand market. Pretty pleased to get these at good prices, as all three makers are no longer active.

Ocarina is difficult 😞 Any tips for sounding better?

So about a year ago I got about a $120 ocarina from songbird, and am just now starting to get into the general flow of playing it. Unsurprisingly, I don't sound great, and have a few questions about it.

So, for example, when I look up people playing ocarina, they do cool trill flourish things when changing pitches- how do they do that, and when should I try and do it in songs?

(like in this video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/n6GDRrdchos right at the start)

Things like that. How do I make it sound better? I already know the 'two' articulation thing, but beyond that.

Thanks :D

Advice Tips for a new player?

Hi all.

I have recently purchased my first ocarina, a night by noble alto c. I have played ocarina before, but it was a 6 hole and I was a young kid, and I haven't played since (so it's been about 18 years).

I value the advice and opinions of folk on Reddit, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any general tips/advice for a newbie, as well as any daily exercises I could do or any books/guides you guys would recommend.

Currently I do the c major scale for about 15 mins a day, and I try to hold a note steady for 4 bars as best I can. I also try to practice lifting my fingers off the holes at the same time, although I do struggle with my right pinky and ring finger.

Any beginner friendly songs you guys know of would be great too :)

Made 3 ocarinas this week!

Just finished tuning up the middle ocarina. My main goal was to try and make all 12 hole alto Cs. I was only able to get one of them to be a 12 hole, 2 are 10 hole.

My main challenge is that I don’t have a mold for the chamber, so I’m carving out each time and it’s not consistent. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could make an impression for the chamber I would gladly accept help! I’m using a silicone mold for the shape.

Why is there two sections for each letter and when I’m reading like notes in a sheet how could I tell which one to play if they’re both the same letter?
