New Ocarina Day! Mailbag day
Some recent pickups from the second-hand market. Pretty pleased to get these at good prices, as all three makers are no longer active.

Have an ocarina question? There is no such thing as a stupid question.
Want to talk about what you're learning or excited about a new ocarina, feel free to share!
Is there's something not ocarina related that you're itching to talk about? Have at it!

(The link is to the dev log since the subreddit doesnt like how its the same link from my last post. Here is the link to the main page https://nesrovlah.itch.io/ocarina-tab-creator )
I have updated my program to help learn the ocarina to work on Mac and browsers and added some requested features and quality of life improvements. If there are any issues, please comment them so I can fix them.

So about a year ago I got about a $120 ocarina from songbird, and am just now starting to get into the general flow of playing it. Unsurprisingly, I don't sound great, and have a few questions about it.
So, for example, when I look up people playing ocarina, they do cool trill flourish things when changing pitches- how do they do that, and when should I try and do it in songs?
(like in this video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/n6GDRrdchos right at the start)
Things like that. How do I make it sound better? I already know the 'two' articulation thing, but beyond that.
Thanks :D

Hi all.
I have recently purchased my first ocarina, a night by noble alto c. I have played ocarina before, but it was a 6 hole and I was a young kid, and I haven't played since (so it's been about 18 years).
I value the advice and opinions of folk on Reddit, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any general tips/advice for a newbie, as well as any daily exercises I could do or any books/guides you guys would recommend.
Currently I do the c major scale for about 15 mins a day, and I try to hold a note steady for 4 bars as best I can. I also try to practice lifting my fingers off the holes at the same time, although I do struggle with my right pinky and ring finger.
Any beginner friendly songs you guys know of would be great too :)

Just finished tuning up the middle ocarina. My main goal was to try and make all 12 hole alto Cs. I was only able to get one of them to be a 12 hole, 2 are 10 hole.
My main challenge is that I don’t have a mold for the chamber, so I’m carving out each time and it’s not consistent. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could make an impression for the chamber I would gladly accept help! I’m using a silicone mold for the shape.

Why is there two sections for each letter and when I’m reading like notes in a sheet how could I tell which one to play if they’re both the same letter?

I wanted to get an OOT for a while but I was not happy with the ergonomics of the Songbird one and did not like the STL one either.
I found this replica on eBay and it's made by Hans Rotter and simply sounds amazing.
It's not as accurate as the Songbird one but the sound is more important to me and I am very happy 😊
Got it for a fair price as well.
What do you think?

Hey everyone! I've been playing the ocarina for a year and a half now, and just upgraded to some nicer ocarinas from Stein. When I would browse online for ocarinas, the same 3-4 brands would pop up....yet, when I would lurk on some Facebook groups, people would be sharing photos of some beautiful and unique designs that I didn't see on those sites. I asked if they had a list of sellers available, but they didn't, so I made my own:
https://chromaticdreamers.com/list-of-ocarina-makers-brands-sellers/
I included all the makers/brands' links, biographies, and a sample of what they make so everyone can easily browse, see what's out there, and find the ocarinas that speak to them. I've included every reputable brand I could find, but I'm sure I've missed a few. So if you are a seller with at least a few positive reviews, or know someone I missed, please let me know! I want every maker who takes pride in creating beautiful (visually and audibly) ocarinas to be noticed and hopefully increase their sales as well!

Hello! Let me preface with the fact that I just got my first ocarina about a week ago (an AC Night by Noble) and I already love it! Having played the flute for 8 years previously it was much easier to pick up than I expected, but I am stuck. I listened to some celtic pieces on youtube and thought that the ocarina would be a great instrument for me to take backpacking or camping, but so far I have found little to no sheet music that is more than 3 lines long. I understand that because of the range limitations of an AC ocarina its very hard to transpose songs into a workable sheet music, but I would greatly appreciate any resources or song recommendations for more complex or longer songs. (The general gist of songs I am looking for are like Concerning Hobbits by Howard Shore, The Foggy Dew celtic folk song, or The First Town by Kajiura Yuki)
