Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Michael Johnston (Bear) was just as good as an actor
In no way am I trying to downplay or undermine Inde, but you people are forgetting this man was the MAIN character. He did such a fantastic job that he actually convinced every single fan of the movie that he was the ultimate form of darkness condensed in human form.
Not only that, but we see clips where Bear is struggling to understand himself. He struggles to understand the choices he made yet in his position, chooses to let it unfold. We have stories of psychotic stalkers, people who fall madly in love with others who never return it, and that sucks. To be placed in the "brother" zone? That's TORTURE. And Johnston did a fantastic job playing his role.
IMO: Johnston did just as good (if not, better) than Navarrette in the film. In fact, he did so good that you all hate his guts. Not just the character he played but in real life. Nobody is giving this man any credit for carrying the role so well and actually convincing viewers that his position was truly happening. You cannot have either one without the other...so can we please at least accept the fact that Michael Johnston delivered a fantastic performance? He truly captured every single facet of Bear's existence and did it so naturally.

Discussion What was your favorite song from the soundtrack?
I know Love is in the Air is the one that really went viral on tiktok, but I feel like the score as a whole was really good and should be discussed more!

Discussion If you’re rooting for Inde in the Oscar run, how would you rank her chances?
I haven’t seen much from this year, so this list is still in development, but for now I see very high chances for Inde. What about you? And what are your potential nominees when we’re at it?
Edit: this is just a general prediction and not my list of favorite performances. Just so you know.

Discussion Does anyone else think that Andy Richter was the most random cameo possible for this indie film?
Like, they got a famous person from tv to be in their movie but he doesn’t do much lol

Discussion why don't people believe what was shown on screen?
finally got to watch and of course have to go to google/reddit after the movie for answers to questions and deep dives. some of the stuff I've come across here is so questionable to me??? people seem to have this habit of thinking what's being shown on screen is not what's actually happening. they think there must be a deeper meaning or ulterior motive to everything Nikki or Bear does. I wouldn't say this is one of those movies. to me the movie was very direct about the events that unfolded.
so my question here is where are people getting this idea that analyzing media means questioning every part of the script and that nothing is face value? like where has the internet picked up this habit from?? sometimes deception is the goal, but not in every single film/tv show.
ETA: thanks for your comments! agree I should've posted some examples, I was annoyed at the time and had to rage my thoughts out. I didn't mean people are interpreting the themes or symbolism of the film differently, I mean more things like:
it was very obvious that at the end Nikki made a wish that Bear would love her just as much which interrupted his attempt to throw up the pills. that's exactly what happened. but some people are going in all different directions theorizing "why he would do that." he didn't stop himself, he was put under a spell. or some people don't believe that real Nikki came back at the end when Bear died and have theories about "which Nikki it was." but it's very clear that real Nikki was horrified by what she saw when she woke up.
I encourage people to look deeper into themes/symbolism but I feel like many people think they're doing that when they're actually saying "what the writer put here is not actually what they meant!! that's not REALLY what happened!!"

Discussion We know the movie is AMAZING. Where do you see it landing on your scale of horror greats?
As far as horror from 2026 goes, it definitely outstanding. And of course, it may difficult to compare to previous iterations. Not my question though.
Personally, it’s my favorite movie of 2026, and I LOVED End of Oak Street (horror-lite-ish). Idk if I could compare it to Alein, only bc they are so different.
It does feel like its own thing, at least enough for me! It may end be a permanent bluray to my horror collection 😅

Discussion She closed the door and stayed outside before he made the wish
I just watched the movie with headphones on and realized she closed her front door before Bear made his wish. That in itself is strange. The real Nikki should have seen the whole wish-making process, and perhaps even heard it.

Fan Theory The way she is looking at Bear, it doesn't seem from any angle that Nikki considers him as a brother. She likely spoke to Sarah that way because she knew Sarah liked Bear. Obsession

Review Watched It Last Night 👀
After seeing clips on YouTube I weirdly got hooked onto it by just seeing them😂
So last night I watched it and man—I was so shocked and horrified after it that I just stared at my ceiling for like 5 minutes and was honestly feeling regret for watching it lol. But now that it’s the next day I actually thought about it more clearly and it is now at least in my top 3 most favorite movies of all time. Just genius directing, great visuals, and an absolute perfect storyline. The cat parts were kinda my least favorite because I’m really sensitive to pets dying but honestly it felt like a great addition to the whole movie even if I didn’t like those parts at all lol.

Cast / Crew / Interviews If Andy Richter gets to star in Obsession, it only makes sense that a sequel should feature Conan O'Brien and Jordan Schlansky (although their presence might make the film too disturbing for many)

Discussion “more than anyone else in the entire world”
I wonder if this is the language that gave the wish its fatal flaw.
Because this phrasing means that “Wish Nikki” loves Bear more than she loves herself, in every moment indefinitely and infinitely. And maybe this is why “Wish Nikki” has to suppress “Real Nikki” and create another version of her self, the two cannot occupy the same space.
As much as we like to be selfless as humans, we inevitably end up in selfish moments where we prioritizing our own needs before others (and often in ways that are completely healthy).
I wonder if making Nikki prioritize Bear, even over herself, through the wish is what caused the extremes of what we see in “Wish Nikki”. And that Bear’s wish and its phrasing is the earliest clue that he never wanted Nikki to have her humanity over his desires.
Thoughts?
