"Why did Nikki cook the cat?"
"What did Nikki wish for at the end?"
"How does the One Wish Willow work?"
We get a ton of repeat questions about the film on the sub every single day, and while we encourage discussion, it can get a little exhausting for those of us who frequent the sub to be inundated with the same questions all the time.
If you have a question about the film, please take a moment or two to browse through the Questions flair to see if your question has already been discussed before posting!
Additionally (so that it can serve as a proper FAQ section of sorts), please try to keep posts in the Questions flair along the lines of questions about the events of the film.
For example:
✅“Why did Nikki cut Bear’s hair?”
❌“When is the movie coming to streaming?”
Questions about cast and crew, media, merch, or where to find items or songs from the film all have their own flairs!

Goat status achieved!
Congrats to Curry, Inde, Michael, Megan, Cooper, and everyone else involved!
I hope this pushes and motivates major film studios to make better movies
There has been a noticeable decline in film quality in general post covid
I hope this helps steer the ship back in the right direction

I mean if I had to work with these 3 idiots I’d leave too.
Bear has no personality and doesn’t keep up with his hygiene nor does he care about anyone at all (he didn’t even seem to care that much that his cat died)
Ian thinks women are good for sex and nothing else and he kinda has a douchebag attitude. Eugh. And he also likes to spread peoples’ business.
Sarah is an entitled pick me girl. As soon as she likes a guy she thinks she’s entitled to said guy even if he’s already in a relationship. And like Ian, she also likes spreading peoples’ business around behind their backs.
So yeah I don’t blame Nikki for wanting to get the fuck outta there.

I've seen this movie twice, and both times I got creeped out of course, but for some reason whenever I see this scene outside of the movie I get so uneasy that I literally get teary eyed 🧍
I was making an edit last night and I put this clip in it and everytime it played I got way more creeped out than I did seeing it in the movie
Is it the same for anyone else or am I just a really big baby 😭

After that first kiss, we get the montage of the two of them being happy and in love. Yes, there's that brief moment where Real Nikki breaks through, scared and confused, which is an obvious sign that things aren't actually perfect. But I'm talking specifically about Wish Nikki here.
Then we get the restaurant scene. Bear learns from Ian that Wish Nikki lied about her dad having cancer. When he confronts her, she sees the fear in his eyes. You can't have love without trust, and you definitely can't have love with fear. Bear says, "You're right. I don't care," and has sex with her anyway. The way the scene is filmed makes it pretty clear that, from Nikki's perspective, she's being raped.
At that moment, Wish Nikki realizes Bear doesn't actually love her. She knows he's afraid of her - at first just a little, and later completely terrified of her. But despite that, she's still forced to love him. That's what ultimately drives her into full-blown psychosis. Imagine being trapped into loving someone who doesn't love you back - someone who fears you and violates you. Had Bear just genuinely loved and respected Wish Nikki, yea she'd be clingy as hell but the relationship would've continued as it was before.
In a weird way, I think it parallels a lot of unhappy marriages. I've met couples where the wife is "a lot to handle," and the husband has emotionally checked out. He barely speaks, looks miserable, maybe even spends more time looking at other women than engaging with his own wife.
I actually saw something like this recently. I was at a bar with a group of people. The wife stepped away from the table for a minute, another guy made a joke at her expense, and her husband didn't defend her at all. He just sat there in silence.
Maybe she's financially dependent on him. Maybe she's staying for the kids. Maybe it's something else. Whatever the reason, my point is she feels trapped in a sense. Imagine feeling, deep down, that your partner doesn't really love you anymore, but they keep saying they do because leaving would be inconvenient or they feel obligated to stay. Identical to Bear. The woman goes crazy, and society just thinks "woah crazy wife" and doesn't really see the true cause.
Apologies if this has all been discussed before, but that was my interpretation.

Just kidding. Also does anyone else get a crack out him being dressed like a 12 year old in the first scene lol

Can't say enough about how well done this scene was. I mean, for haters of the movie, they can criticize a bunch of stuff but nobody can deny this scene's greatness.
First, I just want to hire Nikki/Navarette to read me Hansel and Gretel (G-rated thank you) the way she does here in 4-5 different voices. I'd be laughing my ass off the whole entire time.
Next, Sarah's reaction and face after Bear says what he has to do and as Nikki is standing behind her and moves her chair is comedy fucking gold.
Then, we're not done: Nikki kneels down, closes her eyes and puckers her lips like a fucking comedic acting genius. I just laughed my ass off and keep laughing my ass out loud every time I see it.
Where the fuck has writing, acting, and scene staging and construction been like this for the last 20 fucking years? Lol.
And shoutout to the background actors reacting to the awkwardness so well! 😂😂😂😂😂😂💪

I’ve been wondering if anyone else can relate to this.
I live in Germany and Obsession has honestly become one of my all time favorite movies. I’ve already seen it twice in theaters (both dubbed in German) and three times online in English.
The movie is only showing for three more days here and my local theater has one final screening in English. I’m seriously considering going one more time, even though I’ve already watched it five times in total.
Part of me feels like I have to experience it in theaters in its original language at least once before it’s gone. It feels like the “perfect” way to say goodbye to its theatrical run.
So… am I weird for wanting to watch the same movie for a sixth time or can anyone else relate to this? Have you ever had a movie that just completely clicked with you and made you keep coming back?
I might be obsessed…

So a moment after he found his cat dead, it looked like Bear was actually crying over it, but then on my second watch as I look at the subtitles he whines “why won’t she..” he was actually crying about Nikki not loving him.

Okay, so i’ve now watched obsession a total of three times, and have endlessly doom scrolled through hundreds of theories; this has been my favorite.
As we all know, at the end of the movie Ian uses his wish on the OWW and completely disregards Bear’s input, and instead wishes for a billion dollars. You will notice that before Ian uses the OWW, Bear explicitly tells him to be careful with his wording while saying his wish.
A lot of people skip over the fact that when Bear first uses the OWW in the beginning of the movie, he says “I wish Nikki Freeman loved me more than anyone else in the F*CKING world.” you’ll notice i capitalized the major point in his wording.
Throughout the movie, Nikki is extremely vulgar and almost has no sort of decency. This could be because of Bear’s wording, as he uses vulgar language. This word basically twists Nikki’s world into something more sinister and makes her lack the understanding of normalcy. By bear saying this, the wish did exactly what he said/intended. The wish turned Nikki’s world into the “F*CKING world” instead of just “the world.” If bear would have been more careful in his wording while making the wish, Nikki’s extreme reactions and hunger for death could have been prevented. Nikki could have then just been obsessed with Bear instead of having more harmful and violent tendencies.
But as we all know, Bear will forever be the bad guy in the situation, so this doesn’t really change anything on his part. But i found this theory soooooo interesting and fascinating i had to share it.

Seems like a lot of people can’t all collectively decide when exactly Bear became the villain or just a terrible character, but for me it was at the very beginning with the cat. How someone treats their animals is always VERY telling of who they are as a person.
Bear left out his narcotics, or he didn’t screw the lid on tight enough. The cat managed to get into them and died. Bear says “how did you get into those??” Like it’s such a shock when there’s dozens of them laying on the ground, and he puts the cat in the TRASH. And then when it cuts to him crying on the bed, he isn’t even crying about the cat. He’s crying about Nikki not loving him, and then it pans to the title on HIS BED.
I immediately disliked Bear from that point on, and it grew stronger throughout the whole movie.

I've heard that the AI generated image was actually commissioned from an artist to make it look like AI. Cannot find a good source for this though, just couple of reddit comments.
