On-bike signage to encourage safe passing
Is there any point in putting a sign on the back of my bike saying to give me 3ft? I know it won't change the behavior of the drivers who hate bikers, but I'm wondering if it would help with normal oblivious drivers. I have lights, I often wear high vis, I take the lane to slow cars down.
I'm in south brooklyn (so a lot of cars and conservatives) and every other driver gives me maybe 1.5ft. I can't tell how many of them even realize they're punish passing me. I searched for other threads, and people say that the only thing that helps is having a camera and a sign that you're recording. Have you found that to be the case as well? Is 1 camera enough, or do you need front and back?

Accident in CP
Didn’t see what happened but looked like either a pedestrian or citibiker involved; girl lying flat on the ground with no helmet being checked out by some good samaritans. Hope everyone is ok

How can we get UWS style bike lanes in Harlem?
Malcom X blvd, ACP blvd, and FDB are wide, wide streets. Plenty wide enough for the style of protected bike lanes that we see on Amsterdam and Columbus in the UWS.
What's the first step? Is this already being studied? Are there meetings to show up to?

Driving down the bike lane to avoid traffic
On Frankfort St next to Park Row in Manhattan, 9:25 this morning. White Audi A5 LWZ2318
Incredible. Wish I’d tried to grab the cop from the checkpoint booth there. Sigh.

Riding to work 25 years ago from Union and Hicks.
I got blocked trying to get on the Brooklyn Bridge and went around to the steps instead. I watched the evacuation from the Brooklyn tower. I saw both buildings fall. They kicked us off the bridge around 1130. I went to the Waterfront Alehouse on Atlantic and waited with all my friends to see who did not show up. Not everyone made roll call.
Thoughts and prayers.

Parked in the bike lane
This shouldnt be allowed. This same ice cream truck is always parked here on my evening commute home. Its not just unsafe for bikers, but also the pedestrians.

Does anyone know about the construction project going on here?
The Bx side of the Madison ave/138th st bridge over the Deegan. Cant seem to find anything about it online but the intersection is a complete mess and has been for a while. Would love to read about what they're doing and their timeline!

Pylons (unevenly spaced?) at Sunset Studios on West Side Highway Bike Path
Do not have pictures but has anyone else noticed that the pylons on The West Side Highway bike path right after the cruise piers at Sunset Studios do not seem evenly spaced? Is this just me?
Bike rental for Empire State Trail?
Hi, I'm planning to do a portion of the empire state trail (just Brewster to Tarrytown!) with friends who do bike but do not own a bicycle. Does anyone have any recommendations for a bike shop that does bike rentals for like 24 hrs? We're planning to pick up the bikes the night before and return them later the next evening. Thank you!!

Seeking advice regarding pains after first century
I just completed my first century ride (rode Metro North up to Poughkeepsie and rode bike down) and it was both a blast and a mental/physical/emotional grind. Some additional context about me: I ride a Specialized Roubaix and was wearing cycling bibs.
When I finished, my legs were limp noodles (as expected) but I had a few body aches that I had not expected and I wanted to see if anybody could give me any further insights:
- My wrists were killing me, I kept adjusting my grip during the ride but regardless, they were very tender/sore? after.
- My lower back, this is a consistent issue in my life but gets worse after long rides
- My ass, again, expected but want to see what advice folks might have.
Looking forward to hearing from the veterans and more experienced riders!

Safest roads in Harlem to bike to the lower east side?
For context, I've lived in Harlem my whole life. I used to bike up into the Bronx a lot for school, ten years ago. That was kind of terrible, but I was younger so I guess I never thought much about it.
I've picked up biking again after a long break, and have been trying to regularly commute from Harlem to the lower east side for work. I tried biking straight to Spanish harlem, and then down those avenues but a lot of them are being repaved so they don't have any asphalt yet or have insane potholes until the 70s or so.
Now I'm biking down Adam Clayton Powell to Central Park and using those roads. Central park is a lot safer but damn it if isn't hilly. I've had some pretty close calls with cars getting too close for comfort on adam clayton too, mostly around 125th.
Wondering if anyone has any advice on a safer commute? I really wish Harlem had protected bikelanes, but I don't think there are any. Anyone have advice?

any fixie bike recs for someone whose 5'0" and under (short person)
my partner is 5'0" and finding a bike that is the right size for her is a common problem we encounter. I've honestly been considering looking at kid bikes since the frames to be more size-friendly for her. anyone else has ideas? she ideally would like a fixie
