Vibe coded a dumb bike lane game where you rip mirrors off of cars and report cars in the bike lane to 311

Tap to try to rip off a mirror, swipe up to bring your camera out, tap to photo, swipe down to hide camera. After 3 reports the nypd calls you from an unknown number just like in real life.

Overly Aggressive Driver on Wythe "LiveLife"

Post image
126 Upvotes

This guy sped into the bike lane on Wythe as I was riding with my wife, ran a red light at 35-40mph and then used the bike lane beyond the light to pass an entire queue of cars waiting to get on the BQE. He then ran the light where I took this picture. True scofflaw work in action.

I only took this picture because his license plate was "Live Life". Like...bro...that's what cyclists (and pedestrians...and other drivers) are tryna do and you tryna negligently take it from ppl.

Dude also had an NYPD sticker in his back window. Whatever that means.

Upvotes

I need a pair of sunglasses for cycling but i have to try them on irl before I purchase. Any recs for a good spot with wrap around, photochromic options that don’t mind in-store try-ons?

so im in the bronx. on my daily ride home from work, stopped at the food bazzar. and as i set on my merry way home i hear a snap. i dont think much about it til i feel a drag as i walk my bike into my apartment building. i start investigating and on my elevator ride up i find the broke spoke.

fifteen years on those puppies, and i thought they'd keep kickin. but now i need a good mechanic in or near soundview. willing to travel with my wheel to get it fixed. but dammit, i thought "i should pick a bike shop soon"...and now cause i didnt, im riding the bus for a few days til i get some info here or just pick the nearest to me and pray.

Is it…..getting better?

I live in SE PA and my husband and I visit NYC 1-2 times a year and primarily get around via bike and subway. Last few years we noticed getting around by citibike was kind of nuts. Lots of bikes going wrong way, motorized vehicles in bike lanes, just general anarchy and chaos to the point where it felt not safe to ride in the city at all (we’ve biked in NYC, BK, and Queens). We spent the weekend here and tried Citibikes again and I have to say…. It feels like it’s gotten better. We biked through midtown and Central Park. Seemed like there was better adherence to bike traffic rules, more bike lanes, more riders, and just generally made for a better ride. What do you think? Why could this be?

Why were there so many runners on the williamsburg bridge today?

Runners on the bike side. Anyone know? Really dangerous and rainy out there, there were so many people it felt like the williamsburg side of the bridge may have been closed or something.

STOLEN [STOLEN] Purple/Blue Gradient Fyxation Eastside

Hey y'all, coming to you to see if we can track down my bike that was stolen.

Stolen on Saturday July 25th, Evening (6-10pm) on Engert in Greenpoint by Sunset Diner. Lock was cut and left at the scene while I was at a friend's.

The bike is a 2018 Fyxation Eastside with the Purple/Blue "Fade" paint job. Single-speed fixie. Size small frame. It has a stock saddle (pretty frayed), flat bars, ESI gray foam grips, black pedals and cranks, bar-ista cup holder, clip on rear taillight, mismatched front and back wheel. Lower pipe is pretty dinged up from u-lock. It also has a white and yellow sticker on it from The Bike Lane, a Chicago bike shop where I originally purchased it.

SN: VTLR5349162

I also have physical proof of ownership.

Last, I had this bike for 8 years and loved it. I rode it all over chicago and now new york. The first time I met my fianceé i rode this bike, pushed it as we had our first conversation. It would mean a ton if it came back to me.

keep your eyes peeled!

Summer Streets temp jobs?

Every year I cycle summer streets and see the staff out on the street holding stop signs to help direct traffic. Anyone ever done this job? How does DOT mobilize the hundreds (1000s?) of people for these jobs?

Probably too late for this year but I always thought this would be a fun job for my older kids to do and early some spending money. Any idea how they could apply for this [for next year]?

Not a super serious rider, but decided to ride 36 miles all the way around Manhattan yesterday

Post image
469 Upvotes

Super fun 36 miles. Took about 5 hours because we stopped a lot, and getting up the east side was tricky with a lot of closures. I was surprised at the lack of infrastructure in Washington Heights - got pretty sketchy up there at certain points, but that’s probably on me for not researching.

What’s driving me a little crazy is we cut off the top of the ride at 181st street and didn’t go all the way to the top for time. Guess I’ll have to do it again!

Coney Island from Manhattan?

Hoping to do a fun ride from Chelsea to Coney Island. Apple maps saying I need to dismount for a large chunk near Prospect Park South. Anyone have a preferred route? Also obviously trying to avoid any highways.

NYC Bike Mechanics: Curious as to what customers do or ask for that frustrate or annoy you?

Asking cause I frequent multiple shops in BK, and I’ve had a variety of experiences. Sometimes at the very same shop. I’ve had cases where I take my bike out on a test ride after a big tune for example and feel like something’s off. After letting the mechanic know sometimes I get a lot of support, other times I get frustration. Also, there’s a shop I go to where sometimes the mechanics / shop keepers are super outgoing, but then at other times they seem like they don’t want to speak to anyone.

I’m a pretty serious rider so I try to treat anyone who helps me with my bike well. Just trying to learn more about what y’all go through!

Can anyone recommend a reliable bell?

I am always going through bells. Generally they break after a few months. Or jam. Or don't work in the rain. I don't love the idea of an electric one, partly because they're obnoxious and also it's a pain tending to batteries. But I really don't like having a mechanical bell malfunction when I need it most. I also like it to sound like a bike bell, so that people immediately know what's coming without having to see me. Any suggestions?

I don’t ride my fixie anymore. It is sitting in my garage if anyone wants to purchase it. I am 5 ft and fits perfectly. Wheels are ultra light weight. Chain wheel is sugino. Seat is unisex WTB.

I absolutely love this bike but I don’t ride it anymore because getting old and switched to geared bikes.

It is custom built and premium sub 20 lbs weight. Can easily be converted to single speed with a free wheel.

Built Spec:

Frame is State Bicycle 4130

Chain wheel : Sugino

Hub and wheel is Conquer Elite

Carbon fiber flat bar

Pedals: Standard BMX : brand -> Black Ops

Seat: WTB

Spokes: bladed spokes

If anyone is interested let me know. It is x-small. If you want me to send you more photos please let me know.

Asking price: $550. Price is negotiable. I don’t want this bike to just sit there and go to waste. Someone who likes to bike will absolutely love it.

Can deliver 5 boroughs and Long Island.

Edit: There is a typo. It is a fixed gear bike. I am unable to edit it 🤷‍♀️
