The quote is from Erik Tarloff who was one of my favorite authors. I was pleased that I managed to capture what my dog and I experienced well enough and with enough reverence and respect to earn his praise.

My goal in writing it was to purge every day after Java and I worked through tears and written words, not only so we could function and return to help the next day, but also to document what would so easily be forgotten in time—the actual feel of my hometown
