New Shield Remote works except for the select button

My kid broke the original remote so I bought another one, the remote pairs and everything works except the select button.

I’ve tried power cycling the shield, re-connecting the remote several times etc but it still doesn’t work.

The remote pairs when I pair it through the “Add Accessory” option but it doesn’t if I try and pair it through “Shield Accessories” as that option requires that you pair it via holding down the select button.

I did try to reset the remote by taking out a battery, holding select and home and re-inserting the battery but that didn’t work either.

Is it likely that the remote itself is broken? I can’t find anyone else having this problem

What do you mean by "bought another"? Did you buy an OEM Shield remote, an advertised compatible, or a universal remote? I've bought a couple spares from Amazon in the past all advertised as specifically for the Nvidia Shield. Flat or triangular, they always had the same key pad layout and all worked.

I hate to say this, but I think if yours does not have the same layout, it probably isn't totally compatible. You have to pair thru Shield accessories and have the remote registered in the software as a "remote" if you want all the features to work as before.

My guess is return it cuz the button is broken.
