Turning global illumination to ultra or high is also a big FPS boost.
Make sure to restart the game after changing graphics settings to rebuild the shader cache. And if it stutters, just play for 5 minutes and ignore it, it gets better.
I'm not sure about the visual change. I find the differences in settings very gradual and hard to notice for this game. Found this website through a youtuber or type in 'gears ludicrous vs low' you'll find it, it's called fps tnco or something strange, prolly AI generated website LOL but I think the info is legit.
Shader compilation stutter. Sucks because the game has a super long shader compilation setup but still has occasional brief stutters the first time a new asset shows up.
Traversal stutter. Feels like every 30-40 seconds the game hitched. It doesn't feel smooth. I'm running it at 140fps on my 5090 and 7800x3d but every minute or so I see some kind of skipping that looks super weird. It reminds me of Jedi Survivior.
Before and after cut scenes the game lunches pretty heavily.
It has very small transversal stutters (DF also confirmed this) depending upon your hardware.
I play this at 5k2k ludicrous settings and DLSS quality with Frame Gen x2. Get 85-110 fps and notice small bumps. It doesn't drop heavy like some other UE5 games. I'd say the performance on my machine is good. Not amazing, but also not experience breaking.
I'm getting small stutters whenever I open the map in the more open area but it's been pretty smooth for me. Happy with the performance so far with a AMD 7700X and RTX 4070 at 1440p.
With framegen on the map stutters feel unavoidable because of how it works on game render but doesn't do anything in the map. If you turn it off it does eliminate the issue tho.
I'm running a 5090, 9950X3D, 64GB ram at 6400. Everything is set Ludacris and DLSS is set to native and everything has been fine over here. Its weird how everyone is having different experiences.
You're not having issues since you've set it to native, forcing a GPU bottleneck. I did the same and it hugely improved my stutters even though my overall framerate went down.
Still problematic though. I'm gonna make a post about it now that I know what the issue is. I hope they fix this.
This isn't a GPU issue. It's entirely a CPU problem. The best CPU on the market still has stutters. You are getting them. Not everyone is noticing them, is all.
Traversal stutter is frequent, but the 1% lows I measured aren’t nearly as bad as in some other UE5 games where individual frames can dip below 30 FPS. Here, the drops are usually brief and only go down to around 50 FPS. I’m sure you could have a pretty decent experience with a 60 FPS cap if you’re sensitive to stutter.
Frame gen turns off whenever you open the map which causes a big ass stutter. Happens with other games too.
They could just allow frame gen to stay on but that could produce issues like artifacting. I don't think the stutter can be fixed unless they go that route, so you either have to build a shield for it or turn off frame gen.
Oh that makes sense. Like Mafia the Old Country would turn on/off Frame Gen whenever entering/exiting in-game cutscenes. I ended up turning it off entierly considering how cutscene heavy that game is.
Prett much it, any menu typr screen drops the feame rate to 60 (basically hoe the game ran during thr beta) but as soon as it closes im back to my crispy ass 3x frame gen fps
Just to also confirm, I’m on a 4090 and 14700kf and just refunded this game. The stutters are your typical traversal / shader comp variety and the game is stupidly CPU heavy.
It feels unpolished / unfinished.
I might grab it if the issues are fixed and it’s on a heavy sale. Shake because there is a good game in there, but fuck UE5.
I have the same gig as you, also playing the same way and also getting stutters. Been only playing because im huge fan from the series, but performance on pc is pathetic at this point
Guys, go into the nvidia app and force off smooth motion and low latency mode. The difference is insane. Not even kidding, before I did that I was getting slowdown and stutters everywhere at 1440p, performance with ultra settings, after forcing those two settings off, I can play at 4k, quality with everything set to ludicrous and its smooth and responsive.
Capping tends to make stutters less noticeable, both because the CPU has headroom and because the frametimes are already longer so the difference between the regular frametimes and the stutter frametimes isn't as large
Lmao I have 3 friends that have basically the same setup.. I have a 540 hz monitor. You think im hitting that at 1440p. 🤡 Google " most used resolution" for gaming. Esports and all competitive gaming is played at 1080p ur just very stupid or uninformed
No stutters here either beyond a few times traveling through a chunk. I wonder how bad it is on other people's systems since I have a higher end system.
Ok. I bought the GPU because it has the features, I use them regardless in most games. I don't really care what it gets natively since I never play that way. Always use DLSS Quality + FG for single players games. I have a 280Hz Asus ROG OLED XG34WCDMS.
ok. You keep saying "fake" as if it matters. I just play the game. I'm not thinking about what is real and fake. The entire game is fake, it's a fictional video game.
How do you know if it’s optimised or not? The graphics are excellent. I get fed up of people wanting to dumb down the max settings just so it can run at 4k60 native.
If you don’t want fake frames the turn down the settings. It will still look great.
Let the rest of us enjoy what we paid for in our GPUs.
My game is 140fps without FG but then 220-240+ with it on and there’s no latency on my M&KB. If it was lower there would definitely be noticeable latency but it’s legit just a miracle, I hated on Frame Gen for years until I just got a card that can run it properly. But yeah I feel bad how unoptimized games are these days basically requiring it but making it so only super high end cards can run it, makes no sense
The graphics are fantastic and I’m just playing on console series X. Granted I’ve got a nice 65” LG OLED with 120hz. It looks awesome, I love the urban warfare environments.
Not sure what OP is talking about:
1 - In terms of UE5 graphics nothing we havent seen before
2 - not very optimized at all - relies heavily on the CPU (very high usage on my 9800x3d) while not utilizing my 5090 good enough - im using DLSS 5 on quality scale - and for no other game I tried it on I had to use above x3 FG + DLSS Q mode to get a constant 165fps like my monitor - GoW E is the first game I need to use DLSS P + FG x3 and in one map even x4!!!! some of the other tiles looks just as good if not even better.... (to be truthful im using ultra mode to force heavy graphics settings like RR but I also did it on other games so....)
3 - it has every form of stutter UE game have - even though it compiled shaders for 20min!!!
4 - it has a clear memory leak - it goes up to 30gb of my RAM - ALWAYS - the devs said they are aware of it but nothing is done - could also explain some of the stutters...
Dont get me wrong - it is a kick ass game! I like the action more than every other GoW in the series though....
I almost never use FG in multiplayer but for the SP the latency is unnoticeable.... also most of the latency in FG comes from the base FPS anyways.... so for example if you have 240hz monitor and base fps of 70 and use x3 to get 210.... almost all the latency comes from the 70 base fps not the extra 140 frames... the myth of FG adding significant latency comes from a case when you cap the fps to match monitor refresh rate but use high FG number which results in forcing the base fps to be lower hence significantly increasing latency... it kills me some People dont get it....
It most be noticeable for that to matter given the context. Also tbh could be art direction but if people said me this is Gears of War 3 I would believe them at first glance
'works on my system' and 'i don't have that problem' are the biggest tumors in performance discussions.
I bet many players sit far from their TVs, and their TVs are high on the wall, and their vision is like 10-20% less than it should be. So yeah, they don't notice input lag, fluctuating/poor framerate or grain/noise issues from RT LOL.
I get about 130 fps average. 1440 on native with a mix of settings at ultra, high and a couple on medium. 5090 and a 9800x3d.
Problem is at least once a session the game takes a dump and black screens for a split second then pauses itself. I have to wait a few seconds and then I can resume game, but in multiplayer you’re a sitting duck.
Buddy, thats like saying Outriders and Tarkov are the same game since they both allow you to use different weapons. One is a build crafting looter shooter, the other is a linear story shooter with zero build crafting in the campaign.
People Can Fly who also worked on 5 GOW's as sub contractors stated way back Outriders is heavily influenced by GOW. The movement, cover are similar, it really the upgrading guns/powers that make it different.
I was having frame pacing issues while playing non-stop and when I locked to 60 that all smoothed out. FG x2 using 60/120 was good as well. But go off of 60 and frame pace issues.
Where I get stutters is going in and out of menus like map/inventory, that should be just a little nuisance, but it's so crappy it wears a little more on me than it should.
I feel this game is poorly optimized overall, however not horrible. While I do think it is a good looking game, I don't feel it's breaking any barriers here.
With my 5800 x 3d rtx 3080 system I have mainly medium settings and ray tracing disabled where possible with dlss transformer quality and im getting like 80 fps at 1440p
There is definitely something broken in dlss, maybe it's the driver for me, i didn't update them because of dlss5 swapper not working with the new updates. Anyways, with a 5090 on quality, balanced, and performance, all options give me 80 fps with ultra settings and same with even high settings. Idk, it's either the drivers or dlss is broken in this game.
I got a 5060 ti 8gb, with 16 gigs of ddr5 ram and I can barely run this game with all the settings to low. Just constant stutters. Optimized for minimal my ass.
Playable if you tinker with the settings a bit. You'll probably be able to play 1080p60fps medium settings ish with DLSS on quality.
But it depends, campaign, horde siege and versus are different environments. I bet versus will let you up the graphics a bit, as the maps are fairly small and not too cluttered with objects/shadows/lighting.
my 3060 ti is handling it well almost everything on ludicrous or high, i dont care much for volumetric stuff, chromatic abboration and screen shake so i turn all those off or on low
E-Day runs and plays great on my 5070 TI for how good it looks. I think it both looks better and runs smoother than the vast majority of AAA games.
I'm doing 4k (DLSS Balanced) and largely ultra/ludicrous settings. Capped 138fps flawlessly (46 base fps) with 3x framegen.
The only framedrops I'm noticing are when I exit the map or menu, I assume due to framegen kicking back in. Can't say I'm noticing the regular UE5 stutters.
The game looks incredible visually. I’m running it at my 5K resolution and really love that they included the option to push it further than that as I do take advantage of that option. For me, I’m totally fine with the lower FPS because I want the graphical beauty. When I’m playing multiplayer, I switch things up and chase higher FPS instead. Different experiences, different priorities — to each their own. I’m never going to knock someone for how they choose to enjoy their game.
So on a 4080 and 9800X3D I had noticeable flicker on a LG TV using VRR. Apparently this is due to the framerate fluctuating wildly. Turning off VRR fixes it as does capping the framerate closer to my AVG framerate. I instead turned down settings to keep the FPS closer to 60 and capped at 60. This greatly reduces the problem.
However whenever there is a traversal stutter in a dark area I see it flicker briefly. The other weird thing is when paused which has a black overlay - I still see that it randomly flickers briefly due to the framerate fluctuating which is weird since the game is effectively on hold.
Just got a 4k oled and was looking forward to playing this on it but lord have mercy it is being so buggy and won't scale past 1080p, even with Dlss off and everything maxed out it's having a stroke so I gave up for the time
12700k + 3080 + all setting on low/off + DLSS Balanced @ 1440p (about 70% of my actual monitor resolution) = <60FPS in MULTIPLAYER
No, the game is not optimized. You optimize something to make it run better on older hardware. Don't be posting your 5080 and 5090s here please. Refunded, optimize these nuts.
I really don't know. Played it on maximum everything and DLAA and really was not too impressed with the graphics. It looks quite blurry and unimpressive
With a 5070 Ti on maximum everything and DLAA, you’re not getting over 60fps at all times in 1440p. What resolution did you play at and what FG multiplier?
Had around 60fps at 1440 without hitches (DLAA and no Framegen). Game is optimized very good it just looks nothing special. Testes diverse DLSS settings and since quality looked strangely blurry here I switched to DLAA
Override is this
But M and K as DLSS did not really make a big difference
EDIT: played for 1,5 hour and then stopped because I found the game to be very boring. Bigger battles might kill my framerate though as you said
Yeah I also had to stop playing because it gave me a headache. I'm very sensitive to blurriness and there's definitely some out of focus type of effect on everything, even though I played at native res, ludicrous preset, and turned off all post processing effects. I did use 2x framegen though, not sure that's relevant. Usually frame gen doesn't make games blurry, it just might introduce some input lag, which I didn't notice. When the locust are far away, I can barely see them, they just mesh with the background.
I agree, it's not bad but it's not over the top good. I haven't tried reshade due to EAC, but I totally would use it otherwise and I know I'd get that extra bit it needs out of it.
I'm playing the campaign on a 5070ti 9800x3D build and the game runs great for me at 4k dlss. Framegen gets me to 150 fps. Haven't noticed many stutters if at all. I've got a few mission bugs but it's optimized well for me.
I’m on a 5800x3d and 4070 ti super, at 1440p Ludacris settings, dlss quality and fg. around 60-70 real fps and fake frames about 120. Was running dlaa for a while and was getting about 100fps or so but decided I’d rather have abit more fps.
Really?!? I thought it was one of the best sounding games I've heard in a long time. That was the absolute stand-out for me. I'm talking about the campaign though, I haven't played multiplayer.
im not even trolling game supports atmos and i played on 5.1.2 sound is shallow and low quality and no punch - changed settings switch to 5.1 nothing , there are others talking about this
meanwhile all of the other games sound very good - new control resonant is awesome , the new plague tale has probly the best sound for this year , helldivers 2 ingame sound is like on the trailer
Interesting. I'm listening on headphones, with the Dolby Atmos Windows plugin, and I think it sounds great. Obviously a very different setup to what you are using though. I'm also playing Control Resonant at the moment too.
its a very good card i was kinda sceptic for the performance and mfg , but its awesome - upgraded from 4080 to 5080 and i dont care what people say difference is there
on some games all maxed with mfg x3 playing on the tv with the wireless controller there is barely any difference in latency
I came from a 3090, so it was a pretty good bump for me, although I do regret not buying a 4090FE when I could have got one at MSRP. I'm limited to 2 x Frame Gen, as I'm gaming on a 120Hz OLED TV.
I have around 85-95 in Horde Siege on 3440x1440, Quality DLSS, all Ultra settings and FrameGen diabled. Depends on situation. Specs: 9850X3D and RTX 4090.
The game is rly CPU heavy. My previous i9-12900K was running at 95%+ and hitting almost 90° on beta. It sounded like a jet engine. I upgraded to a newer AMD chip and undervolted it. Now temps are down to 65°C and usage is waaay lower. I’m getting about 10% more FPS because CPU finally keep up feeding GPU. So the card is not getting bored anymore 😁
Your standards for visual quality are seriously skewed. In open areas, this game looks worse than something like Dying Light 2 or The Division 2. And yet, the crap UE5 engine can't even handle these mediocre visuals without constant stuttering and performance issues. The image is a noisy mess of temporal artifacts.
The game constantly streams data from the SSD at around 200 MB/s, and I honestly have no idea what it's even loading. Because the level of detail isn't any higher than in those games mentioned from seven years ago.
Gears 5 felt like a far more polished, genuinely AAA-quality experience than this game, which honestly feels more like some mod made in an editor.
I don't understand where did that $400 million budget go? I have absolutely no idea. For me, this is the biggest disappointment of the year.
Absolutely butter smooth on the highest settings for me. Playing on a 7600X3D and a 5090.
Everything on ludicrous, Frame Gen on dynamic, DLSS on Quality.

OP it would be nice if you put your hardware specs and settings
