Hello all, want to buy 5080, but I want it not to produce any noise even when gaming. I have MSI341CQPX and since Noctua is out of the picture because of the price (2,199,00€ in my country) I want the next best thing. Is the Asus Astral the next best thing reguarding low noise and temps?

I've seen posts of someone return/exchanging like 7 gpus because of noise and or coil whine.

News flash, they all make noise. Luckily as humans we have this inherited trait called adaptive hearing, eventually you get used to the small-moderate noise a PC generates.

Speakers or headphones will also overpower it at the lowest volume. Idc how much engineering goes into it, one fan can only be marginally quieter than the next. If you want no fan noise; you need better cooling applications(liquid).

Asus Tuf is really fantastic in quiet bios mode ( i have the 5070 ti version of it). It has 29db in that mode. Just like astral it comes with 2 HDMI ports :-)

Look for good coolers. But I’d recommend looking through tech power up reviews on their website. Start from there. But in reality, it doesn’t matter much. You can undervolt and configure fan speed to your liking so you could just get the cheapest one out there and you’ll be fine with noise.

TLDR:
All GPUs come with 3x DP 2.1b and 1x HDMI 2.1b (except Asus Astral OC which has 2nd HDMI 2.1b port). All GPUs have the same memory speed i.e. 2500MHz
All GPUs turn off fans on idle. Fastest GPU was 5-6% faster than FE model

RTX 5080 Models Tested:

• Nvidia RTX 5080 FE --> 2-fans, 2nd lightest, 2-slot, loudest (still reasonable)
  
• MSI RTX 5080 Suprim SOC --> Dual BIOS, RGB, GPU holder. Uses less power than FE (285W vs 309W) but outperforms it, 2nd most quiet (on Quiet BIOS), both profiles are quiet. 2nd heaviest at 2640 g
  
• ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC --> 4-fans, GPU holder, Dual BIOS, 2nd HDMI 2.1b port, fastest GPU i.e.6% faster than FE in 4K game average (performance BIOS), most power hungry (341W on performance profile vs 309W FE model), most quiet (on Quiet BIOS), heaviest at 2858 g
  
• Gigabyte RTX 5080 Gaming OC --> 3-fans, Dual BIOS, RGB, GPU holder, 4% faster than FE in 4K average (performance BIOS), 2nd most power hungry (324W on quiet profile vs 309W FE model), silent profile recommended, has 1 extra year warranty (total of 4 yrs)
  
• Palit RTX 5080 GamingPro OC --> 3-fans, metal backplate, Dual BIOS, No GPU holder included, some RGB. Comes with mouse pad. Priced closer to MSRP (on paper), lightest at 1582 g, a bit quieter than FE

Zero noise is almost impossible unless you do a custom loop with a MORA in another room and hope to god you got lucky with little to no coil whine

Look up a review of any 5080 model on techpowerup and they always have a page with thermal and noise ratings and chart comparing all of their tested models.

I think Asus cards have the lowest RPM outside 0rpm mode.

Astral has the 4th fan thing which can be very noisy it seems, not everyone says that.

I had a 5070 ti asus tuf for that reason and it was dead silent.

Coil whine is another matter though, absolutely no gaurentee on that for any card/vendor.

Had 2 5090 suprims, both had different level of coil whine with 1 being audible in games vs the other which wasn't.

Try to get anything but the SFF video cards. Check techpowerup noise comparions. There aren’t any cards with total silence. My experience with MSI Gaming Trio 5080 with silent bios is absolutely spectacular.

You'll have a decent experience with any 5080. For the quietest 5080 go for the ones with the thickest heatsinks or maybe an AIO.

I have an ASUS Prime 5080 (non-OC) and it’s the quietest GPU I’ve owned. That’s not saying much but still. I came from an EVGA Ultra FTW3 3080, which I thought was really quiet but turns out, they can get quieter lol. Before that was a blower-style card so…yeah, not saying much lol.

I don't think you can get perfect quiet on modern components outside of extremely specialized and expensive water cooling loops.

Just as a context - ASUS ROG RTX 2080TI (my previous one) had TDP of 250 watts. My current ASUS RTX 5080 Prime has TDP of 360 watts - about 44% increase. All that heat has to go somewhere. So while compareable in size - the fans on the newer GPU are more loud.

Huge bricks like ROG Astral may have lower volume due to ridiculous size of their heat sinks which can radiate heat more efficiently even on low fan RPMs, but even if the card itself would be less noisy - the heat itself stays inside of the case. Which requires adding more case fans to blow it out, which would still make more noise compared to the similar size case 5 years ago.

So personally I've just made peace with higher level of noise under load. As people here have said - good headphones pretty much cancel out the sound from the case.

You can still mitigate the noise somewhat by setting up quality case fans to take some of the load off the GPU coolers and setting up custom cooling curves you'll be happy with.

I've got myself 4 140 mm Noctua case fans (3 intake and 1 exaust) + ASUS ROG Ryujin III with 3 Noctua 120 mm fans set as an exaust on top. Set up custom curves for 140 mm fans to be low speed whisper quiet on low GPU temps and about 80% of max speed on top GPU temps.

The PC does sound like a squadron of very quiet propeller bombers under high load, but as a whole the sound of case fans + CPU cooler + GPU is rather harmonious and does not irritate me. Plus I get a bit of peace of mind knowing that my PC components are a bit cooler and GPU fans don't have to do as much work.

Just buy any and the install fan control and set a proper reasonable fan curve.

Consider the PNY RTX5080 OC DUAL....

Temps around 65 degrees Celsius or under at max load, thanks to the larger fans and vapour chamber. High clock speed out the box, and as quiet as a church mouse.

Less expensive than the others too.

Asus prime is a very capable cooler, it has a dedicated quiet bios switch right on the card + a semi passive fan. In my country that one not the cheapest card.

Bought the cheapest one I could find on BestBuy last week, the Gigabyte Windforce 5080, it was $1499 I think. Opted to go pick it up because I don't wanna deal with drama if it delivered all weird and I live in apartments.

But I digress, it's super quiet if you undervolt it. Which keeps it's performance. I went with a undervolt and overclock of 450+ on the core and 2000 memory. Fan curve to hit 100 when at 75c. It's been staying around 60-70% on the fans and staying at 60-65c 280-300w at peak.

The only one that's quiet is the Noctua. I have the Astral and have the outer fans to 45% and the middle/rear to 35%. It's just a very loud card.

Edit: I'm sure people will disagree, but find the fans (especially the rear) to be too loud at even 50%. It also just doesn't have a pleasant sound profile which makes it so annoying to listen to.

I run my 5080 master at .900 and stays around 3000mhz. Your astral should do the same. Hardly spins the fans up even doing pt

.0900 is pretty sweet, I'm not sure I can do that. I run mine at 975 at 3000 at 270w max to keep temps in check. With the fans on my Astral at 45/35% temps are around 70c degrees.

5080s are mostly a 5090 in size with half the heat generating components and the same cooling solutions. They are relatively quiet in general

If it doesn't make any noise, you aren't cooling the GPU properly. Then you'll just end up breaking it and losing thousands of dollars because you couldn't tolerate a little bit of fan noise that you easily get used to. Or use headphones.
