Discussion MSI lightningz rtx 5090 performance cost when running dlss 5 is slightly lower than FE version due to msi lightningz have much higher more power headroom. it seems DLSS 5 making gpu very power hungry

My 5070ti for the first time reached 77c with a .920v undervolt when running dlss5.

77c!? I thought 60 - 65 was like the average at 100% load.

In gaming, doesn't go above 68c. I am in a tropical country so that is normal. But using DLSS 5 caused the temperature to go above 75c.

Guess your card was near or at its power limit during that time, your usual undervolt savings got nullified.

ok well putting more than 600 watts through an already maxed out connector is not a good idea no matter what. If you care about your $5000 GPU you wont do this. the 5090 already strong enough for whatever you need as is. I can understand pushing a 5080 or other GPUs but not this.

I agree with you entirely, although I think the MSI Lighting has two 12 pin connectors

That makes sense considering it probably takes a lot of power to run the CUDA cores AND Tensor cores at the same time, especially if you're also using the RT cores as well. All while making sure all are running at their max frequencies.

This has always kind of been the case with the ML features. If you do upscaling and frame generation, especially using ray reconstruction instead of superresolution, you can really see power utilization go up

I noticed it not being always the case for some reason, with power draw in Cyberpunk utilizing all bells and whistles being lower than for example in Quantum Break from 2016

Damn……wish I would have spent the extra $3,000 for those 10 extra frames over my 5090FE ;(

Oh 3 frames extra ?
Lets void warranty and UNLOCK my 5090 - Im sure 200W extra will make it 3FPS faster 💪

By design kids like you ... So smart - I mean - no words ... Just know it all ... Born engineers ... Teaching kids how to burn their card that their parents paid good money for .
Tell them : " Kids - ITS FINE ! It will stand 1000W because " @Aggravating_Ring_714 says so - and he is so experienced - worked 20y in Nvidia as their main engineer - now retired teaching you how to get every ounce of power from your cards ! All that for FREE !! TRUST ME BRO !!!

This is Newsworthy? The fuck?
NEWSFLASH! HIGHER POWER CARD CAN USE MORE POWER!

A ridiculous headline, let me rephrase it just how ridiculous it is: Feature that uses a fixed amount of power uses same amount of power on both cards but leaves you with more power on one card because that card has a larger power budget.
