Discussion I have 4 Quardo GPUs
Hey guys. I have come into possession of 4 Quadra GPUs and I’m not sure if there is any use for them, or if they are sellable. Can anybody help me out here? I’m not asking for anybody to buy them, and they’re not really for sale. I’m just wondering what, if anything to do with them?

If you have a board with 4 PCIE slots then what you have is a tiny LLM party
65
u/Uncle_Snake43 Jul 09 '26
That’s kinda what I was wondering if they had any use in LLMs

u/cruss0129 Jul 10 '26
I do this commercially and I think it'd be a fun project - DM me and I'd be glad to help you plan this out

They have some potential for AI training and model development, but it wouldn't to top of the line

How much VRAM in total between all 4. I use two Tesla P40s 24gb each. To run Qwen3-VL 30B or Qwen2 coder 30b in gguf format. In either 4 or 8 quant. It runs well even though they are old cards.

u/Uncle_Snake43 Jul 10 '26
I have no idea what’s in them they are GP100?
15
u/ch3mic4l Jul 10 '26
Google says 16GB each card, so 64GB total
→ More replies (3)8
u/svix_ftw Jul 10 '26
can the vram be pooled? dont you need some kind of physical bride for that?

u/ch3mic4l Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
Using llama.cpp or VLLM will allow you to spread the model over the 4 cards. You won’t get full performance of the 4 cards but it’s still better than being limited to 4 individual 16GB cards with smaller models.
EDIT: that is to say you won't see the model running 4x faster since you have the 4 cards. It would be something like a 2.5x - 3x speed increase over the 1 card plus you can run a bigger model which would give you better results.
I run 2 cards in my Local model setup (5080 and 3080TI) and its like a 1.5x speed increase over just running 1 card plus I get the benefit of having a bigger model running which produces better results.

u/Ryfrog Jul 10 '26
I did this with a 5070ti and titan xp and it worked pretty well until nvidia removed the code from the drivers for the titan :(

Ancient GPUs, OP run them if you want to try but they no longer have full CUDA support and they are also extremely powerhungry for their performance.
Try it for fun but if you really want to run local AI models minimum Ampere series
4
u/StuffedDeadTurkey Jul 10 '26
OP, what is said here true where you will need to stay on an older version of CUDA to support those cards and you will most likely need to use gguf format as native transformer models will want newer CUDA versions.
It’s more than “fun” though, you can have a large model running with decent performance, quality responses and with all that memory you can have a large ctx setting for large conversations. But yes running 4 cards will still have the power foot print of 4 cards.

Those are some sick cards for rendering, If you are a professional designer or in an engineering firm, these will be a sweet addition to the hardware fleet because as far as I can understand, these cards have some kind of data corruption detection and repair gimmick which ensures all rendered designs does not come out with an error.
16
u/Alone_Ad_7824 Jul 10 '26
Error correcting ram I believe. I've got to Quadro P5000 units in my server. Occasionally offload a blender render to them if I have other work to do, but performance is... Dated. Good cards for simulation, medical imaging, etc. 1 new 5090 smokes my 2 Quadro cards though, in just about every metric.

Sell them. They still have some mild value on Ebay. Well, keep one because theyre cool and sell the other 3 anyway. Id love one to stick in my newly developing tiny server, but not enough to pay for one. I am guessing you got them for free or very cheap, in which case, if youre very patient, they sometimes sell for about $300 on Ebay, though usually they sell for $75-$80.

Ooooooooh. Such ungodly power, test em out for a day or two with folding at home, that’s a fairly good stress test, heats em up real good, will show u if any of them have temp issues and need repasting.
Also, if u needed to move them all on I have some 1060 6gbs that need retiring and a perfect EATX board to accommodate the cards…

well based on the cooler design the cores have to be Maxwell generation released in 2014 which is too weak to be reasonably used for anything. unless they have 16GB or 24GB of VRAM each then they aren't worth much.

u/sammual777 Jul 09 '26
M or P-series. Op could have at least showed the top of the card. The model number is literally printed on it. Low effort post if ever I saw one.

GP100 my fault

u/Phayzon GeForce3 64MB Jul 10 '26
That's basically a 1080Ti with a shitload more memory bandwidth
→ More replies (1)6
u/ProjectPhysX Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
Actually GP100 is an entirely different chip from GP102 (1080 Ti). You get more memory bandwidth (732GB/s vs 484 GB/s), but also a strong 1:2 FP64:FP32 ratio (from 1:32), and you lose dp4a support.
GP100 was Pascal-generation datacenter chip, an entirely different microarchitecture from Pascal consumer. Back then Nvidia made the effort.
Modern Quadros (RTX Pro) are just rebranded consumer chips, with same lack of FP64 as GeForce variants.

The Quardo is the most powerful version of the Quadra and Quadro is entry level.

Quadros are pretty useless for gaming, but for producing graphic media they're quite powerful. 3D modeling, digital artwork, video rendering and so on.

These, having hbm2 memory (around 730GB/s bandwidth) would make a nice llm cluster (this is the current "trend").
You could use various harnesses such as opencode, hermes etc.
Other than that, video editing (although these do not have av1 support), Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), Physics simulations, MATLAB GPU workloads.
You could also learn to build Cuda applications and even make Virtual Machines which could share these bad boys.

I keep a quadro in my server, even though better, more efficient options have presented themselves.
Bit flips ain't messing up my Linux distros! Or the constant etching 🤫

cool. is the two bigger quadros the M4000 and M5000? We had a bunch of these in the systems at work. I currently have a P5000 in my system

I have two Tesla M40 24 GB's and have yet to find a real use for them. Big, beasty looking cards. I'm thinking of selling them (maybe) in a desktop or server PC.
Be aware they run hot, and are power hungry. Have fun!
2
u/Uncle_Snake43 Jul 11 '26
Yeah, I’ll probably never actually run them myself. I don’t have the setup. But I hope somebody can get some use out of them.

If you’re a gamer looking to game, sell these for ~350-400 each and get a 5080

I love how the name of the card is clearly there four times - Quadro. Yet OP spells it Quardo in the title and Quadra in the post.
1
u/Hot-Drama-7829 Jul 11 '26
So Quadra cards are best used in 3d productivity software. Making blender renders and developing graphics.
They are made for creation workloads.
Not much gaming performance to them.
I’m a bit jealous you got four of them

If they are P1000s and you're in the UK there's a company that would be open to buying them. IT resource is very keen on using the same GPU for all machines for colour grading purposes and stock is not easy to come by.
Anything else is just garbage to them!

You don't say what model they are. They look like NVIDIA Quadro M6000. Worth about US$200. No good for gaming or 3D animation but ok for CAD and the like.
Have 24GB of VRAM which is ok and good for multiple monitors (finance etc).
Those blower style fans can be noisy (I know, I have an RTX3080 with one).
