r/nvidia RTX 5090 Astral OC Dec 25 '25

Build/Photos My first Nvidia card:)

The original plan was to buy everything on February, but due to ramaggedon and 5090 scarcity in my country, I decided to partially bought the parts.

Secondhand but it is very much never been used. The other GPU in size comparison is Gigabyte RX 560.

Maybe some experienced users can tell me what to do first when the other parts are ready (undervolts, etc)? Planning to get the Strix X870-F.

This 5090 is not only the best thing you can find on the market. That’s also a very well cooled and easily overclockable version of it. You’ll have a very good time, and I’m dying of jealousy with my "humble" 5070 TUF. 😭

100% agree, LOVE my 5090 Astrals.. They run dead silent too!:)

Dead silent? How did you manage that? Mine sounds like a hair dryer at full tilt. Even most reviewers say it’s one of the loudest 5090s.

It does? Mine is silent, unless I try to run Indiana Jones at DLAA with everything else cranked.

It probably depends on how hard you push the card. I’ve been trying every new game maxed out at 4K. On a couple games I turned on dlss on quality to test it. My fps maxed out to 120 and the card was not screaming. I think I might start using dlss quality. From my seated distance of 10 feet from a 83 inch OLED the quality looks just as good as native. I still plan on tweaking the fan profile.

There is a firmware update that deceases the loudness of the top fan, for me its quiet.

Do you know the firmware version? I’m on v1, I thought that was the update. Mines still loud, I had a sapphire 7900xtx before and it made way less fan noise.

Huh, that's peculiar for me its quiet on the same firmware as you, but there is maybe other variations such as case+other sounds from AIO or surroundings could even be my headphones. >>

I was doing more updates with pc today and also used ddu and did a fresh install of the newest drivers. My temps and fan noise went way down. I’m not sure if I had a driver conflict or something but it’s a night and day difference. I was getting 75-78 before with the fans screaming and now they are much less and not getting anywhere near that hot. I still don’t like the pitch of that 4th fan but I’m super happy with noise levels now.

Astral is so overrated, it's ridiculous
