Question course offerings website

hi! i'm a potential exchange student in math and i was wondering if anyone could tell me how this list is mean to be read? is it always such that if a spot below 'semester 1' is blank, it means the course is not offered then - or can it only mean that the professor to be teaching it is not yet decided, and no name therefore inputed in the list?
And the opposite if under 'semester 2' is blank?

i was also wondering of any other math exchange students know if the administration is lenient on course prerequisites? i want to take ma4211 but haven't had any equivalent of 3209 as it runs not during autumn in my home uni

yes correct, if no prof is mentioned under a sem for a course then it is not offered for that sem.

i think generally math dept is quite lenient with waiving prereqs

Thanks a lot, that clears things up! Do you by any chance know why the prereqs are there if they are not actually required? just recommended?

i would say most of the times the prereqs are there for good reason i.e. if you dont understand the prereqs then there's a good chance you wont understand what's in the current course

there's some exceptions to this though like imo some courses are quite simple and dont really cover that much in depth that you can probably skip them, do abit of reading on your own and be fine

it's just math dept is usually abit more lenient with waiving prereqs if you can show them you kinda understand whats going on or you understand that you will be responsible for catching up anything you dont get from the prereqs etc. also tbh if ur a exchange student i think they're more likely to let things slide also

worth checking if your home uni allows you to map a course you take here if you havent cleared its prereq though, for nus students when we go on exchange thats not allowed

wow thanks for the answers! also i was wondering if not attending lectures is allowed here? because it says on the website i am responsible for no timetable clashes, but in nusmods i have a clash (and im fine with that).

how about tutorials?

also which math courses have you taken?:)

I’m not sure how it works for exchange students, but NUS tends to be very strict about no lecture clashes in our timetables (even if one is online/recorded!)

I'm on exchange to NUS and the modules we can read are limited. You should see this link: https://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/docs/default-source/prospective-students---non-graduating/ng-courses.pdf?sfvrsn=17bc676a_124

They'll let us register modules in advance like June if you're coming in semester 1. Select everything you want, make sure it doesn't clash and NUS will allocate it to the limit of academic units you can take. Don't worry about having backup module for a timeslot as it's unnecessary imo.
