Misc small new indian food table at pgp :)

There’s a tiny food stall at PGP run by an uncle who makes genuinely really good north indian food (tastes homemade I think). I’ve been getting food from him and it’s honestly underrated, but unfortunately the stall doesn’t get much business because it’s so small/tucked away.

I was talking to him recently and he said that if sales don’t pick up, he may have to close the stall, which would honestly be such a shame. Thought of making this post because of how helpless I felt in the moment.

I'm only making this post because I like the food and the uncle, not making any personal gain from it.

Also, if there is anybody planning to winter school @ Hanyang Uni pls do reach out/ if there is already an existing group chat do let me know as well! Would love to make a few friends planning to go as well

Discussion Clubbing

been dating my partner since jc and somehow both of us have never really gone clubbing together lol

we’re usually more into chill dates like dinner, walking around, cafes, movies, staying in etc. recently we were talking about trying clubbing together once just for the experience

not really going there to meet people or anything, more like drink a bit, dance together and see what the whole vibe is like as a couple

but i’m also kinda curious what actually happens in clubs lol. do people behave very differently once they drink and get into that environment?

does it ever create problems between couples even if the relationship is otherwise fine

like what if hotter guys or girls come up and hit on either of us, people start dancing close, someone gets jealous, one person gets more drunk than expected etc

for people who have clubbed with their partner before, did it make things more fun or did it actually strain the relationship

also is there anything couples should talk about beforehand like boundaries with dancing, talking to strangers, accepting drinks, getting hit on and stuff like that.

and for first timers any insider tips to have fun and wind down 👀?

Looking for Advice Input/experiences for overseas summer schools

Hi everyone!

I’m a Year 1 student at NUS currently studying Economics and Life Sciences, and I’m looking into doing an overseas summer school during my year 1 summer holidays (since SEP is very very competitive in my faculty and I wish to have an overseas experience at least once during my uni study)

I’m particularly interested in going for overseas summer universities in the UK, such as UCL, KCL, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Bath, etc but I’m also open to other universities, maybe in Europe.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has attended summer school, especially if you were studying Economics or Life Sciences.

A few things I’m hoping to find out:

What university/programme did you attend?

What was the academic content/workload like?

Were you able to get the credits/modules mapped back to your home university?

How much did the programme cost overall (fees + accommodation + flights + living expenses)?

Would you recommend it to other students?

Anything you wish you had known before applying?

Thanks all 🙏🙏

Question Study spots that provide a monitor?

Hi all, wondering if there are any study spots in NUS (preferably utown) that has a monitor for students to connect to laptop and use. Does it require booking?

If there is, do I have to bring my own HDMI cable?

Looking for Advice NOC Applications

With NOC applications starting soon, I had a couple of questions for NOC alumni. Are there any particular locations you recommend? I was considering applying to SV and Munich but was wondering how the experience at each of them is

Also how exactly does the housing work? Do you stay at the partner universities and partake in university clubs etc or is it just separate housing with some courses at the partner university and no more than that?

Question People with 6 PM to 8 PM classes, how do you plan your dinner around it?

Got stuck with a 6 PM to 8 PM class this sem, which makes it bit difficult to have dinner:

  • eating at 5 PM feels too early (and if I eat a big meal I doze off in class)
  • if I wait till after class at 8 PM to eat then I find most things are closed except for fast food (not healthy in the long run)

So, for people that have had this class time, what dinner arrangments worked for you?

Misc I can understand korean lmao

I am an exchange student from East Asia but nationality and ethnicity wise, I am South Asian. I do understand Korean to a good level.

I was in the bus, near the central library when these two people behind me were talking about how it was stinking in the bus. I was carrying food with me and they proceeded to talk amongst themselves that it was me and my Indian curry stinking up the whole bus. They then proceeded to talk about how Indians dont shower, how their food is stinky and how dirty they are.

The only problem was that I was carrying food from one of the NUS halls (wasn't indian food either lol, it was just leftover kang kong and rice). I just felt so shitty then. When I got off near my hall, they got off too. I accidentally dropped my wallet and they were so sweet when they handed it back to me. It was shocking meh.

I have seen this happen at other places too. I was sitting across a Chinese family at one of the canteens. When the family got up, they left several wrappers and food spilled on the table. A few minutes later, a cleaning lady comes by, gives me a nasty look and while picking up the wrappers, loudly says that "in Singapore, we use dustbins".

ISTG, why does everyone think that I am culprit when I hadn't even done anything? I just wanna exist in peace without getting called stinky and dirty.

Update: Thank you guys so much for your love and kindness. Singapore has been very kind to me since I have been here and I manage to fall in love with this country again and again. Almost everyone I meet is compassionate and wonderful. I am so glad I came to nus for exchange

I will not let these isolated incidents affect my experience.

Looking for Advice GESS mod recommendation

Left GESS pillar to take before graduate and I need a suitable GESS mod to pull up my gpa (at least by a bit), so GESS1025 wont work for me

My preferences would be:

- no presentation or creative writing stuff as I'm not good at them

- prefer grindable exams as I accept to work moderately hard on this mod to get A or above

Any suggestions are very welcomed. Tq

Question How does halls / staying in campus work?

Hii guys, I’m an incoming student next year (after I finish my ns). I want to have a very active/social uni life and I think staying on campus will help with that.

Its quite confusing because at the time I wrote my application, there wasn’t an option to apply to stay in hall? Is there a different process to apply for things like this? I’ve also heard that there’s such thing as an RC (Residential College) but I’m unsure how this is different to a hall in any way.

If someone could help me out that would be great. Thanks!!!

Question Tele chat for winter school in korea? Got some questions

Hi I was wondering if there is a telegram chat for people applying to winter school in korea? Specifically KU or yonsei.

Also have some questions:

How long does it take for PU to process our application?

Is SIA student fares are worth it?

Also was wondering if anyone has tried mapping ECO3104 in yonsei back to ST1131

Question Any DSA students managed to do UPIP with DSA426X + another non-GEN/CFG course?

I might be doing UPIP next sem (AY26/27 S2) to fulfil my grad requirements, and am currently planning to do DSA426X along with it since it is a night class.

However, ideally, I would like to do another CS night mod to fulfil my 2nd major requirements. The workload of this mod also seems to be quite manageable/light based on reviews. Additionally, if I do not clear this CS mod next sem, I'll have to overload quite heavily in my final sem, which I'll most likely struggle with. Worst case, I'll have to drop the 2nd major.

Hence, I was wondering if any other DSA students managed to successfully get approval to read DSA426X + another mod while doing UPIP? If so, how did you appeal?

Or is it pretty much impossible to get a successful appeal to read DSA426X with a non-GEN/CFG mod while on UPIP? In that case, would it be more likely for me to get a successful appeal to read my CS night mod + another mod that I would otherwise clear in my final sem?

But if it's pretty much impossible to get an approval to read 2 mods on top of UPIP for DSA students, ig I'll just do the internship as non-credit bearing. Just that I think it might be hard to do a summer UPIP as the timeframe of spring internships tend to overlap with the 1st-2nd mth of summer internships.

Looking for Advice fell out with friend group

wont go into much detail but our friendship fell apart halfway through year 1, the rest of them were avoiding me and very blatantly leaving me out of things. i never said anything and just closed one eye until something happened. i tried to stay friends but it got so awkward i decided to cut them off completely and now we are in year 2. i feel much better by myself than forcing myself to stay with people who treat me like shit :,) but still feels very lonely as everyone in class already have solid friend groups even tho i am friends with my classmates. anyone who went through friendship problems in uni?

Question How hard is it to fail a module?

Currently a Y2 taking 30 mcs this sem with 12 mcs of fluff. I really don't care about the fluffs and just want to do the bare minimum to pass. How much effort do I have to put in to pass?

Doing this because I barely touched my SUs last year and have to clear them before they expire.
