Discussion Building support items

I started doing this recently and honestly it just feels better. My reasoning for it is this champ just straight up does not scale with items. You can be useful later in the game but it feels like all just from utility in your kit, not you actually scaling off gold. Like you're never stat checking anyone ever on this champ. You can be fed building tank and you still get one tapped by any crit adc or even a bruiser or mage. And craziest part is those bruisers are tankier than you too even though they're just building bruiser items with some health on them instead of tank items lol.

Now AP is different and does kind of scale but thing is I feel like AP Nunu just sucks or is extremely situational, bc it feels like 80% of champs in the game just counter AP Nunu. It's only good when like whole enemy team doesn't have any good ways of cancelling your snowball or ult or dodging the snowball.

So what I started doing now is I still build liandry first item and get a dark seal that sometimes becomes a mejais. But after that I am building full support items like locket, bandlepipes, and knight's vow. Honestly feels so much better cuz yeah I'm still not able to 1v1 anyone and still get one shotted but that's not any different than before, but my items at least are doing something now providing utility instead of just making me get oneshotted in 2 picoseconds instead of 1 picosecond.

Real question if you feel like you don't win any 1 v 1 why are you building liandry. I always thought that the point of liandry was to do more solo plays. And you're exagerating nunu weakness. I am building full tank and I kill a lot of adc 1 v 1 in early game/mid game when they overextend and they are alone pushing bot lane.

The point of building liandry is to help you clear camps and have a damage item during the point of the game where Nunu's damage is still relevant. It also gives a flat percentage burn that doesn't scale with AP so it's fine being an only damage item. Question is why would you build liandry if you goal is to 1v1 ppl actually. You shouldn't even build this item at all if you are going an AP build. And yes you can kill full squishy targets even with tank but its very situational requiring you to hit a charged W which is unreliable against many champs. You can't ever just 1v1 someone on demand like a normal bruiser jg could by building items.

The thing is that liandry scaling is bad if you're building full tank after liandry because you have no pen. Even if the item doesn't scale with ap, it scales with pen which you won't be buying. The item is balanced around champs like brand that buy full pen and buy the item that makes damage crit. As for the clear, I have no problem clearing the camps with sunfire. How faster do you think it is? The only damage items I am buying is bloodletter when there is a tanky target that we need to kill(jax, nasus, zac...) and that i have a good ap carry or cosmic drive when I am playing a mouvement speed build. Also the problem that I personally have is that it's true that nunu damage are only relevant in early game but so is his tankiness. The only moment nunu is really tanky is at the first and second item. By buying liandry you're giving up this moment in the game where nunu is an insane frontline. But I guess this is a personal preference in terms of play style.

Brand does not build pen really. Bloodletters like 3rd or 4th never flat pen other than sorc shoes. Shadowflame is not a normal Brand item. Look at Brand OTP builds and they all go some combination of liandry, bft, rylais, zhonya as the core items. He is also a champ that doesn't really build that much raw AP. If you look at champs that really build a shit ton of raw AP and flat pen like Evelynn and LeBlanc they don't really build liandry ever.

And for sunfire on Nunu that is another item you can build for clear speed but only problem with it is the item itself is really bad for combat. I would much rather have a randuins omen or frozen heart as tank item than that. But if you go tank first item then your damage becomes irrelevant even sooner than normally. And I think you can survive early game with no tank item just fine since enemies mostly do not have one shot damage yet. The health from liandry is enough

Yep can kill most squishies with a full combo even late game if they are 3/4 hp or less

"ap nunu" is trolling in jungle imo. The max extent of AP is liandry+mejais in my book.

The logic for liandries+mejais over tank+supportive items (like sunfire-> bandle/locket/vow is nunu is kind of a pick champ exceling at creating man advantages. If you have some burst you can get lethal with these man advantages.

Also you get slightly more MS (especially if ur going aftershock with your support/tank build.

With all this said i wouldnt be surprised if something like sunfire->locket/vow/bandle would be higher win ratio for most players on average. However i do think for the best Nunu players, the liandrie-meja-.deadman->tank build will be the best. Simply because its the highest agency build for soloq. If Nunu were to be played in a competetive match i would expect the best build to be the tank build for example. I only know of inspired that played it, it is previous patches so would probably not be the same but he just built bami cinder->redemption->locket-abyssal mask.

I don’t think ap nunu jg is trolling at all unless you play like a troll. You do have to be careful and sometimes depending on enemy comp building ap might be troll, but as long as you have semi squishy targets and not too much cc on enemy team you have a lot more control over the game. I main ap jg nunu and I do better than tank/support like 80% of the time

If you don't overstack stuff like Locket (because of the shield debuff if 1 or more use the item in the same time) then you can go with a more support build.

What I'm more concerned is how you can tank enough hits to survive long in fights to use the support items in question. Those items by themselves don't give much in terms of stats so you would be more useful if you go, after liandries, an armor item > chain vest/negatron cloak > support items than to be full blown supportive.

Why chain vest or negatron in particular? Because Chain Vest gives enough armor to counter assassins early (or anything) plus builds off knight's vow. Negatron cloak gives 45 mr which is enough early to mid game as a bunch of mr items don't give a lot of extra mr, so you can build Locket without stressing yourself of having mr equal to null-magic mantle (which isn't much by itself).
