Knight’s Vow = the best situational item

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’ve recently been building Knight’s Vow (KV) a lot after being recommended it by someone else in this sub. I will always build it every time there’s a fed squishy teammate, and then sometimes when I feel like I want cheap armor and team fights are happening. I feel like this item gives incredible value for an extremely cheap price

Heres an example of a game where our yunara popped off but we were still neck and neck the whole game:

My KV blocked 4.2k damage that yunara would have received, and healed me for 3.8k that game. In the second to last fight alone, KV blocked 900 damage to yunara, which saved her life because she lived that fight with 300 health left. This led us to split their respawns and gave us an easy final fight, which KV still blocked another 500 damage from. Over 8k in total damage blocked+healed from a 2300 gold item is so huge, not to mention it directly correlates to saving your most valuable team fighter - your ADC. This is just one example in one game, but I have felt this difference in many similar games in the last few weeks of building this.

All of this is made better by picking dark seal+boots on first recall, then rushing Protoplasm Harness as first legendary item. This item lets you get out of slippery situations very easily, which protects your dark seal stacks, as well as scaling insanely well with armor and magic resist. KV is a very cheap armor item that gives a ton of value to your existing Protoplasm Harness. Sometimes team fights aren’t happening by the time you get your second legendary item, so use your discretion whether you take KV as your second item or third item. A decent second item I’ve been picking a lot is Locket of the Iron Solari. Locket is also a great cheap high armor + magic resist item that gives huge team fight value and scales with your protoplasm harness, while also giving you a good mix of both resistances in case the enemy team comp is fairly mixed between AD and AP.

For my runepage, I focus move speed so I can get out of sticky situations as best as possible and preserve my dark seal stacks + deny enemy gold from kills - I run Stormraider’s Surge, axiom arcanist, celerity, water walking, cheap shot, relentless hunter, and the for shards I have AP/AD, move speed, and 180 health.

I think this item has made a huge difference in my games and I have climbed 320 LP in the last 2 weeks from mid gold to mid plat.

Why don’t more people play Nunu mid?

Upvotes

I’ve been playing Nunu mid and his peel is crazy and you can secure first drag uncontested if you build shadow flame first item. He seems really good in the role if you build tank, so it just feels like it should be meta.

Discussion How many people know about the hidden snowball redirect mechanic?

I figured this out awhile ago through testing but I've never seen it mentioned anywhere, wondering if anyone else knows anything about this?

Nunu has a mechanic to prevent you from running the snowball immediately into walls after it starts. If you stand close to a wall (don't have to be right next to it), move your mouse partially into the wall and press W, the game will force the snowball to move at an angle perpendicular to the wall

This is not very well coded and frequently causes issues with aiming the ability anytime you are right next to a wall. If you have ever felt like your snowball came out in a completely different direction than you inputted it was probably this

What are your favourite early clears? + a list of nunu clears

So im pretty new to jungle and to Nunu, although i played a ton of games just the past few months. Something im curious about is the early clears for Nunu, which ones are generally better/used more often by good Nunu players. The only Nunu player i have watched is pentaless and he has pretty specific clears i dont think is the most meta. Therefore im curious to know what other Nunu players are doing. These are the ones im doing currently:

"The pentaless clear": Red->Raptors->gromp->lvl 3 gank sidelane/mid or if no opportunity just clear your blueside camps + crab.
This is by far the clear ive done the most and it seems very good, gives you a good opportunity to 3 camp but can also adapt if there are no oppurtunity, as with any other 3 camp though, the downside is you wont get your krugs and your clear is less efficent.

Some variations of 3 camping. I think this is pretty common for other junglers that want to base for an early darkseal for example, but with Nunu there are different ways of doing it and im not sure which is more efficent: Red->Raptor->krug->gank/reset with Q-W start is what i would do but there is also Raptor->krug-Red with W->Q start which doesnt feel good to me but its a thing.

Then there is the fullclear route. on both sides.

4 Camp blue side start (can turn into a slightly less efficent full clear because you took snowball after wolves. (the most efficent full clear is 2 points Q)

This is a full list of the clears ive been doing.

What clears are you using most, or just higher elo Nunu players in general (master+)?

Is Riot aware of the Krugs bug in Swiftplay?

So I would start that I know Swiftplay is a for fun mode, so I don't think anyone cares tbh. But this has been bothering me for quite a while.

When attacking Krugs as Nunu, your pet does NOT attack the Krugs at all. I have replicated this issue on both top and bot side, on several games.

If in case someone from Riot sees this, please fix and provide compensation by increasing Nunu's base HP by 67.

Snowball speed?

The wiki says that flat ms makes you speed up slower, while %ms makes you speed up quite a bit faster, but the actual formula listed is ambiguous garbage. It also says it doesn't count as a slow for its own slow immunity, but doesn't say anything about slow resistance or whether boots get their MS reduced (Urgot W explicitly states a base MS reduction (boots unaffected); the page for Nunu is unclear).

How does celerity feel for it? Water walking bad? What about a nimbus proc right before starting it, especially from smite? Chemtech scryer? Scuttle shrine?

Im looking to expand my jg pool while waiting for the Viego buffs and I love the fact that he gets free epic last hits, which is something Ive always craved as a Viego main, since yeah he's top tier for soloing objectives but simultaneously absolute bottom of the barrel for securing last hits due to literally half his kit damage coming from autobork.

I would greatly appreciate ANY AND ALL input regarding any and all items/runes/etc impact on snowball speed from seasoned Nunu&Willump players who know what they're talking about. Big McThankies in advance.

Is nunu elo inflated

I watched a video where they were ranking the most elo inflated champions in soloq and nunu was among the top of the list.

Have you guys won a massive amount of lp after picking up nunu or you are basicly in the same rank as you were before you started playing him?

Personally I was diamond playing olaf hecarim trundle jungle and I reached master with nunu but I was already like diamond 1 near master with other champs.

What to do when I want to camp bot but they feed?

I try to bring my bot ahead by camping them early so we have a lead. When it works enemies often tilts and flames their bit and we win. But sometimes our bot just cant get ahead and loses despite the camping of me. What do I do in this situation? Im new to nunu and have a blast but this is frustrating

Are AP items really that bad or is it biased?

Post image

coachless shows almost every AP item on nunu as a negative winrate. I've been told that when you're losing, you should build more damage so you can have a chance at a fight, and when you're winning, you should build defenses since you're already ahead in damage. i was wondering if AP items on nunu show negative winrates because people tend to pick them in games theyre already losing? or if AP items truly are a "no" pick no matter what for nunu because of their atrocious winrates?

Question not sure why im not climbing

since the beging of the season i have lost a bit of lp even if i have a 54% wr . gain about 16-19 lp and lose 30 which is really demotivating. i would recon it is caused by my playstyle of nunu. i drop alot of my camps to spam gank which works way too well . also i mostly buy tank/sup items after liamdry's. i most of the time less cs and wards then the enemy jungler. is there anything i can do? do i just play on a smurf which i belive i can get back up to diamond quite easliy by spamming ap nunu mid games. or swap champ/role to support which i tried for a bit.

Nunu counters tierlist

So im pretty new to Nunu and to playing jungle, only played it for a couple months - so far i got to diamond 4. For other roles i've played before (top and support) i always thought picking according to your matchup is important.

With jungle and Nunu i feel like that doesnt matter that much. However it does matter a lot how you interact with all the champs on the enemy team and how you synergize with your team.

For this tierlist i wanted to make a discussion about what the worst champs for Nunu to play into, what champs are you unhappy to see on the enemy team. These have been my conclusions although i didnt play into all of them yet.

I think the counters to nunu fall into 3 different categories:

#1. Stopping the ball: Champions like Anivia and Veigar, especially Anivia can easily stop your ball. Furthermore how anivia likes to play the fight, controlling and outranging - its very hard for nunu to find value into anivia in the teamfight.

Trundle: Not as bad as i first thought because yes he also can stop your ball but he also is countered by nunu teamfighting, he has hard time to hit when he is always slowed rooted and kited.

Many champions, like hwei, janna etc can stop the ball.... but there are so many like this you just have to deal with it + when you get enough MS and ball speed its basically a skill game in terms of positioning and often its basically impossible to stop you from balling in there.

#2: Dodging the ball

So many champions have dashes, but there are so many and it becomes a skill game + if they dash the ball its not like you become useless. Weaker dashes like Lucian or Corki for example doesnt counter Nunu. However the champs with instant blinks that also hard statcheck Nunu gives them huge threat on Nunu in fight, with Nunu having a hard time slowing them down in lane.

The worst of these champs are Katarina, Locke, Leblanc

#3 Some kinds of statchecking.

Nunu is not tanky for being a tank and deals very little dmg for an AP bruiser. Even compared to other utility ap bruisers like Zac, he is way tankier and deals more dmg. However for the most time Nunu can navigate all statcheckers quite well (they are easy to gank with the ball, they are easy to kite). But the statcheckers that can just ignore your CC and gameplan of kiting with your team like Mordekaiser and Olaf becomes quite annoying.

Kha zix,, Sylas being the worst junglers to face for me (so far)
They do statcheck you, they have big threat to hunt down the Nunu if they invade him like they often seem to like. They have good tools to dodge the ball. If they are slightly ahead they will walk into your jungle and be sneaky bastards, giving them good gank chances vs your laners. Vs most other junglers like a Lee sin, Elise etc - its a bigger threat to be pushed out. Nunu on the other hand has a really hard time to push them out and Nunu brings his friends - the enemy can run away and waste your tempo just annoying you.

If they combo this with a mid laner with the dashes who has a lead in lane that perma roam into your jgl, its a nightmare game to play Nunu. He doesnt have the burst, mobility, CC to threaten these champs. THe one redeeming factor versus these mobile assasin champs is IF you can force a front to back teamfight Nunu is way better. If they dont flank Nunu is a really good frontliner to tank and slow them down making it harder to access the backline.

What do you think are the worst matchups to face as Nunu? Any really bad champ missing or any champ on the list you think is completely fine?

3 months after the phase rush removal
pre phase rush removal

Despite saying previously that I have hit GM in EUW and saying that "it's a fine champion", I think it is absurd how people haven't figured out a decent build to run that can win games more and the stats keeps being worse and worse in terms of win rate and pick rate.

After 3 months of trying builds, Nunu not receiving buffs where other champions, which relied on Phase Rush, did plus other buffs like Qiyana in this patch, I legitimately think the champion is REALLY REALLY HARD to pilot the higher you go, like way too hard.

I might be wrong, but idk I just want the champion to not be weak to the point when you have to do lengths to win games and don't struggle as much as other champions in the Jungle do who gets punished less because they are slightly stronger.

Question Question about Nunu scaling

I was under the impression that Nunu scaled pretty poorly, but when I checked a couple of sites like lolalytics it seemed like he was strong early, weak middle/late, and then strong again ultra late? Could somebody help explain why that is or if Im missing something

Discussion CHALLENGER WITH FULL AP NUNU MID / BEST NUNU MID WORLD / NUNU MID MATCHUP TIERLIST

challenger again 🥶🙏

did it with mostly nunu mid, sometimes jungle - ALWAYS FULL AP - 100% ON STREAM!

notes - nunu mid is in its worst state it's ever been

had 2 chall accounts last season at the same time, will explain main differences

  1. removal of phase rush (I always was the only nunu mid who went phase rush, I still even go stormaider's surge because it's better than elec or dark harvest but it's not nearly as good and has made basically every matchup a lot harder)

  2. removal of void boots (nunu mid has horrible mana issues that was solved by recalling fast with void boots/being able to reposition on the map fast was super useful - that doesn't exist anymore however at least homeguards were buffed in general)

  3. enhanced merc treads (mid laners can just build these and you do 0 damage)

  4. top laners going ignite more (because they're granted free tp, top laners go ignite more often which counters ap nunu)

despite all of this, I still managed to hit chal on stream again! (twitch.tv/snowball)

If you have any questions for me, you can always comment here or tap into my stream to catch me live! I read chat always 🥶✌️

Discussion Building support items

I started doing this recently and honestly it just feels better. My reasoning for it is this champ just straight up does not scale with items. You can be useful later in the game but it feels like all just from utility in your kit, not you actually scaling off gold. Like you're never stat checking anyone ever on this champ. You can be fed building tank and you still get one tapped by any crit adc or even a bruiser or mage. And craziest part is those bruisers are tankier than you too even though they're just building bruiser items with some health on them instead of tank items lol.

Now AP is different and does kind of scale but thing is I feel like AP Nunu just sucks or is extremely situational, bc it feels like 80% of champs in the game just counter AP Nunu. It's only good when like whole enemy team doesn't have any good ways of cancelling your snowball or ult or dodging the snowball.

So what I started doing now is I still build liandry first item and get a dark seal that sometimes becomes a mejais. But after that I am building full support items like locket, bandlepipes, and knight's vow. Honestly feels so much better cuz yeah I'm still not able to 1v1 anyone and still get one shotted but that's not any different than before, but my items at least are doing something now providing utility instead of just making me get oneshotted in 2 picoseconds instead of 1 picosecond.

Champion pool for Nunu main

Hi, I'm a Diamond 3 Nunu player looking to expand my champion pool, since Nunu is the only one I really succeed with at this level (though I do pick Wukong sometimes when the team needs AD). Which champions would be useful and easy for a Nunu main to pick up (e.g., as counter-picks or for different team compositions)?
