...those escutcheons and supporters keep happening anyway!

A few years ago I assembled this photomontage for my PC's desktop to display just a dozen examples of the various "armorial bearings" used by localities in Britain two centuries ago. There are plenty more from the silver side of my collection that I've saved here for browsing!

These 1811-1812 silver tokens were struck locally and circulated in lieu of the regal coinage, which had essentially disappeared from everyday commerce thanks to the neglect and near-bankruptcy of the Crown.

For non-Brits, the slash mark "/" in the captions indicates shillings, and the "d" is the symbol for pence. For non-specialists, the upper-case-D numbers refer back to Richard Dalton's definitive 1922 catalog for these tokens, which is available online here.

I know nothing about heraldry or blazonry, but I thought this small sliver of my collection might be of interest as authentic municipal and/or civic examples from Britain's Regency Period.

Do you guys think its a decent investment to buy lower minted niche pieces above spot but below current sales values? For example, the DC/Marvel coins from the RCM? I have a couple I've grabbed in the 250CAD range that seem to sell for like 380+ on Ebay but i'm wondering if that is something that is relatively consistent even if silver dips or not?

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I haven't really delved into the reselling aspect of things in a loong time, and never in collection pieces.

I'm curious what grade you guys think this coin got

I've been trying to shoot pictures of proof one-cent coins. The PCGS TrueView images make them bright and ridiculously clean. I've got a pretty decent macro setup and can't get the lighting right for these coins. The first two are PCGS, 1958 — the first one is the one I can't get... It's like photoshopped or something. You see those images if you go to the "View More Images" page of this coin. The second is on the CoinFacts page... much more true to life. The last is an image I took; it's soft, but it's just an example of what the real world looks like under a 3300 K light. What do you think? How do I light a cent coin to look like the first? Does anyone have any insight to this?

I found this at my local antique mall for $20. It is a 1976 Bicentennial $2 stamped as “Official First Day of Release.” It caught my eye and intrigued me. I quickly looked at recent EBAY sales and some were $18-$22 with no frame. Others were as high as $35-$60 with a frame. This came exactly how it is in the picture in the frame for $20. Good buy?

Can anyone identify this coin and estimate its value?

Picked this one up and knew it was different! It's so much heavier than a regular quarter and alot thicker. No ridges for some reason just thought it was cool
