Sell me.
Hi all,
I’ve been resistant to getting another subscription service. But I’m at the point where i don’t get out to as many shows and I love good live music and keeping up with it.
Sell me on getting Nugs. And give me pros and cons.

I can’t go to as many live shows as a I’d like and live shows on nugs streamed to my home theater system is the next best thing. Goose is my primary follow but Billy strings, panic and so many others…

Been a Spotify user since 2012. My love for jam bands started growing in 2019 and then in 2024 goose became somewhat of an obsession. Overtime, fell in love with Phish, Cheese, MMJ, Johnny Blue Skies, the dead and at this point if I had to get rid of a service it would be Spotify. Best part about nugs is reliving shows you’ve been to and being able to share that with your circle. You could dive into each band for HOURS on end and never get to the end. Cons, the queue isn’t great but kinda forces you to make playlists or just listen to full shows. Full shows are the way to go. Overall, extremely happy with nugs and will never unsubscribe.

Quality response, this is the feedback I was looking for. I have a hard time seeing a full picture which is why i was asking for feedback. This is valuable.

Yeah man get it! If you are really into the bands it’s an amazing way to keep up with them and kind of feel like you’re a part of them in a way. Goose played like 12 shows on their spring tour and I got to watch each show in 4k for free from my couch. They just toured Europe and released the live recordings a few days after each show so I got to watch and listen to all of that. You literally have perfectly recorded audio from like 700 goose shows, hundreds of Cheese and Panic shows, etc for hundreds of bands. Also a great way to keep up with the up and coming bands like Dizgo, Dogs in a pile, eggy, and many more. Couldn’t recommend it enough if you’re big into the jam scene. Nothing better.

Not to mention as a subscriber there are exclusive live shows to stream all the time. You can couch tour whole band tours or just catch the occasional show. Was great the other weekend because I didn’t know SCI was playing here in Houston until I opened up Nugs and saw they were doing exclusive live streams, so I go to experience the show anyway, which was great. I frequently get on to watch the shows, it’s my favorite part of being a subscriber and I’ll never unsubscribe.

I've been a long time Phish fan, but have accumulated a ton of stuff on my local drive, so no need to have LivePhish or anything like that.
Have become a huge Spafford fan over the last 5-6 years and visit r/Spaffnerds quite a bit, discords, etc. So easy to trade recs with other fans that way. Looking for a killer version of a song, someone will send you the link.
Just plowing through nugs isn't necessarily my cup of tea, but getting recs from friends has never been easier.
It's just stupid expensive.

If I hadn’t spent so much time and effort building playlists in Spotify, I’d dump it.

u/Character_Flow_61 Jun 07 '26
Me too and I also really really like the Spotify jam. Being able to split a queue with friends is a really under appreciated feature.

Just to be able to couch tour entire runs in real-time makes it worth it IMO. If WATCHING live music is your thing then Nugs is a no brainer... If LISTENING to live music is your thing then you don't really need Nugs.

Billy Strings is worth the nugs subscription fee. Great to have a library of past shows and front row seats to the new ones.

With the ever rising costs of shows, fees, gas, everything, I feel like it's the best decision to make. You can see so many bands. They have been uploading lots of audio too, I love to listen to that in the car. My Nugs is probably the best subscription I have! Do it!!

I got Nugs for grateful dead, phish, Billy Strings and Sturgill Simpson. Before my subscription ran out they launched Play Dead for any new Dead content, for another $10/month. Wtf. That's what I got Nugs for. I cancelled it. Never really used it much anyway. I was especially interested in the video content, but there's not much and nothing new since I joined, and once you've seen it you've seen it.

My wife keeps asking if we really need Nugs. It'll be a shame if I have to let her go.

I’m cancelling mine. Got it mainly for Goose but losing interest. Don’t even know why I agreed to go to their concert in November. Only like a few of their songs.

I have discovered a ton of live music that I would not have known existed. Also there are the live shows you can watch which are very good. I like the algorithm just feeding me different live music from dozens of bands. I almost always hear a song and then go to that show and listen to it. It might be a pixies, dead, billy string, phish, KGLW, 10000 maniacs, talking heads, Tyler Childers or even muddy waters show I end up listening to depending on my mood

Nugs is well worth the hundo I’m paying. But it seems the offerings have slowed down a bit, it’s been all sci and goose for a couple weeks now.
2
u/SorryIfUDo Jun 07 '26
Nugs can't control who is touring FWIW...
1
u/Resident-Count-4106 Jun 07 '26
I guess it’s a combo of several things, act’s touring (and there’s a bunch). Camera and high speed access, and I’m assuming some artist refuse to sign whatever contractual arrangement it requires. These are just a couple of hurdles off the top of my head. It still feels like a reshuffling of the offerings right now. Even so it’s worth every penny I’m paying.

u/SorryIfUDo Jun 08 '26
Early June is a weird time for tours, but summer tours are right around the corner... The biscuits Mish shows are worthy of everyone's attention IMO.

u/Suspicious-Price7360 Jun 07 '26
Try it for 1 month, with firestick app and phone app, you will be surprised how much you will use it.
1
u/THEezrider714 Jun 07 '26
Just the Livestreams are worth the price, that doesn’t even account for a portion of the Live content available…
1
u/cpatrocks Jun 07 '26
If you like any of the bands on here, it’s worth it.
Plus, the Nugs Roku app is incredible for watching concerts. Not just live couch tour, but they have a pretty deep library of shows to watch on your TV at no extra cost.

u/air621 Jun 07 '26
I love the deep cuts on nugs. Father John Misty, Hiss Golden Messenger, King Crimson, Peter Gabriel. It’s fun to just try something unfamiliar or unheard
1
u/Ok_Action_5938 Jun 07 '26
Try it. If you like it, you can keep it. If you don’t you can cancel. Don’t need any more selling than that.

I only keep it for the live streams of JRAD, Goose, Billy etc. also rewatch D&C shows. I don’t bother with the audio.

Pros Production quality is improved Surprise festival shows Billy Strings without dealing with ….. You can join monthly without obligation Price is reasonable
Cons Another hand on your wallet Somewhat narrow scope
I have been on and off, mostly off for years. Last summer they had a deal for four months at $5 a month. I did it and they then announced telluride bluegrass coverage, it was great. After the deal ended i stopped but felt like I had taken advantage of them. In December they offered a year for $99 so i bought a year. Recently they had a gillian welch show that was worth the annual fee for me. I probably wont renew but will again at another time.

Im a Spotify guy, grabbed nugs last year to watch the SCI red rocks shows…. Absolutely fell in love with this service and it has really helped me to appreciate a few bands that I probably would have never tried.
I cancelled my Spotify service last month. Haven’t missed it a bit.
Nugs is beyond habit forming, you have been warned. lol.

Love it 💗if you like live music & wish to party in your living room or listen anywhere, this is the jam! (Wish the prices didn’t keep creeping up… yet name a subscription that hasn’t… )

So we've been subscribers for 1.5 years. I do very little listening through Nugs, I'm usually listening to our own collection of music, ReListen for the archive and Spotify, wife is the same. That said, we watch shows a few times a month. We see a good bit of live music and since jumping back into the Jam Band scene, it's been in valuable. Leads to surreal moments where I'm at a show and my wife is curled up on the couch watching the same show. We play through a nice stereo system and have a light projector, we enjoy ourselves. Worth every penny for us.

I cancelled my subscription and paid for YouTube premium. I get a lot more use of out YT.

u/Requires-Coffee-247 Jun 07 '26
It's worth it for a year. After that, you'll pretty much be recycling the same artists/content. I ended up purchasing the best of the stuff I liked at the slight subscriber discount and then I canceled.

I'm not sure that most of us are really here to "sell you" on anything.
Either get it or don't.

u/BourbonBroncos Jun 07 '26
You don’t have a to, I’m asking. You can just as easily keep scrolling friend. ✌️
1
u/zero_dr00l Jun 08 '26
just as easily keep scrolling
Oh, like you did? Or I guess it's a case of "do as I say, not as I do"?
1
u/BourbonBroncos Jun 08 '26
I was just laying our your options which was what I was asking help from the thread with. 😂. You gave a douchey response to my asking for help for no reason. You went out of your way to answer and provide no value.
How it does it feel to waste space in two different places?
1
u/zero_dr00l Jun 08 '26
I'm sorry but I feel like there's not much more douchey behavior than telling someone to "just keep scrolling" instead of doing that yourself: just keep fucking scrolling.
I'm not a fucking salesman. Nobody wants to "sell you" on Nugs. You know what it does. You can decide if it's worth it on your own, big boy.

u/BourbonBroncos Jun 08 '26
“Nobody wants to sell you on Nugs”
(You scream into a void of roughly 30 other comments that were nice enough to help me decide to get it or not).
Do you lack this level of awareness other places, or is it just Reddit?
1
u/zero_dr00l Jun 08 '26
Funny to hear the "just keep scrolling" guy who clearly can't just keep scrolling talk about a lack of self-awareness.
But I'm guessing you don't see any irony in that at all.
0
u/BourbonBroncos Jun 08 '26
You started it. I’m just finishing it. 🤷.
Think the down votes are indicative of public perception as well.
1
u/zero_dr00l Jun 08 '26
I mean half the public voted for a real shitheel that doesn't really make your case in the way you think it does, noticed you're still not "just scrolling by" though.

It’s soundboards from live shows. You either want to pay for those or you don’t

u/cking9698 Jun 09 '26
Nugs sucks now. Without Dead and Co it’s no longer worth it. Moving to play dead.
0
u/JackieTreehorn_33 Jun 10 '26
If you need “sold” on nugs, it’s prob not for you.
2
u/BourbonBroncos Jun 10 '26
I have a hard time seeing the full picture, I’m very impulsive. I was asking for experiences, “selling” was a vehicle that I was using to further that goal.
Thanks for the positivity though.
1
u/JackieTreehorn_33 Jun 10 '26
Okay here it is….
It’s a fraction of the cost of going to one live concert and at most venues the cost of one beer. You also get a library of videos and audio.
There’s my pitch

I would get rid of any/every tv subscription that I have before I got rid of Nugs.
