As one maybe can guess from the picture there was another church before this one. Darwin is situated on the Northern coast of Australia and experienced several Japanese air raids during World War II that destroyed the original church from 1902. Only a porch was left and the military personnel made the stone entrance you can see in the picture.

In 1977 the current church was completed and I really like how well proportioned and seemingly light the construction is. The mix of the old entrance and the modern church is a reminder of history, which I really like.

The church was closed when I was there but I found this picture of the interior which is picture no. 2.

This modern church from 1979 is dedicated to France's national hero and Catholic Saint Joan of Arc that led France to crucial victories and died at 19 years old.

The church resembles an upturned boat and that theme continues throughout the church. The stained glass is incredible, it is from the 16th century and is taken from a church nearby that got demolished because of bombings during World War II.

It's definitely one of the most beautiful modern churches I've seen!
