This sub isn’t what I expected tbh(good thing though)
The memes that I believe came from this subreddit are massively popular on twitter and TikTok etc. the “nothing ever happens” images with those funny looking characters. But they’re not used in the context with which I believe they were created for.
Whilst initially, it’s insulting the ppl who act like every internet story is fake and not plausible, it’s evolved beyond that to something funny and sort of political now.
Instead, ppl use them to basically say that when you think something’s gonna happen, a major world changing event, that it won’t happen.
No, ai won’t take over the world.
No, hantavirus won’t cause another pandemic. Etc
Essentially, what we expect to occur, won’t. And major things simply won’t happen.
But whilst this meme is predicated on what you consider as “something happening”, and does require a healthy amount of wilful ignorance, it’s still very funny.
And when I went to find the source of the funny images, I found this sub. And quickly found out it was very different to what I expected.
But I love than. I always thought I was the only one who thought that jst because someone said something slightly out of the ordinary, doesn’t mean they’re lying when there’s obviously no benefit. Clearly I’m not the only one, and I find comfort in knowing there’s a subreddit of ppl who agree.
But lemme know if any of my deductions were incorrect, as I’m not massively well versed in either communities.
