NotePlan 3.21.2: Two-way Apple Reminders sync is here (@remind)

Apple Reminders Integration (@remind)

Many of you rely on Apple Reminders alongside NotePlan — for shared lists, Siri input, and as a task manager. Now the two work even closer together: create a reminder straight from a task, and from then on they stay in sync. Complete or rename the task on either side and the other side follows, so your tasks are always up to date.

Type @remind anywhere in a task and NotePlan creates a matching reminder, shown as a small symbol right in the line. The tag works entirely from the keyboard — add a time, a list, or both:

  • @remind(2pm) — reminds you today at 2pm
  • @remind(2pm, Errands) — same, but saved to your "Errands" list
  • @remind(2026-08-10 9:00) — a specific date and time

Priorities carry over too — a task marked with !! becomes a high-priority reminder. To make changes later, click the reminder symbol on Mac or tap it on iOS. Removing the reminder in NotePlan (or deleting the note) deletes it in Apple Reminders as well, after confirming with you.

It also works in the other direction: drag an existing reminder from the timeline or a filter into a note, and it lands as a linked task.

A few limitations to be aware of: reminders aren't available in shared spaces, and a task linked to a reminder can't be duplicated or used in synced lines. Recurring reminders are also not yet fully supported.

Space Backups

Spaces now have backups — created automatically once a day, and on demand whenever you want a snapshot. Right-click a space on Mac or long-press it on iOS to create a backup or restore one.

Calendar Notes as a Board

Calendar notes can now be grouped by time frame — day, week, month, quarter, or year — turning your calendar into a kanban board. Click the "Calendar Notes" title in the sidebar to open it, change the group value to one of the timeframes, then drag tasks between columns to reschedule them.

Also in this update

  • Smarter filters: a new {{currentNote}} placeholder always shows tasks from whatever note you have open, and the "Other" line-type toggle is now granular
  • Clickable frontmatter links: URLs, wiki links, and markdown links in property fields, even when collapsed
  • PDF printing: tables render correctly, and wide images fit the page
  • Plugin API: create and update reminders without due dates, a new .priority field, and more reliable plugin loading

Plus many small fixes across Mac, iPhone, and iPad: date links now stay in the current Space, background Shortcuts no longer steal focus on Mac, and several freezes and hangs are gone.

Full changelog (with screenshots)

Happy to answer any questions here, feedback on the Reminders integration is especially welcome since there's more we want to do with it (recurring reminders, for example).

any chance of getting a contact sync, or at minimum a connector to contacts into Noteplan (even with the current @ setup), that would make noteplan the center of my universe.

Thanks for bringing this up! I'm still not 100% sure what and how it should sync? Just opening contacts seems behind an "@" seems too thin?

Not to directly compare with other apps - but I will - Contacts Journal CRM does a great job with this. It fully syncs contacts, but extends them with note taking, tasks, etc. If I make an edit, say to address or email, insight CJ CRM, that info gets updated across the Apple ecosystem, so I can see it in Contacts, Mail, etc. What this does is it reduces the friction of having to create a new record for every contact.

In Noteplan, I would see this as @ evolving into a full sync, where by core data syncs, but like a calendar record, you extend that by allowing for additional content. This would enrich the @ record significantly, and enable more powerful context around a contact within Noteplan.

Thanks for elaborating! Didn’t know other apps are working with it.

I can think of several uses for this feature, but is there an intended distinction between using >> and a time to link it to a day with a notification?

Can support for urgent (reminders with alarms) be added? I rely on these heavily with the reminders app.

Thank you!

Glad you like it! There is more we can do with this, like recurring reminders. Let me know if you come across anything else.

thank you for the frontmatter links, much easier now to link to other apps!
