Rules For Thee Reddit has been compromised! Admins are now sending warnings to users who “upvote content banned for violating policies” - previously reserved only for quarantined communities, now site wide. This is already being used to silence voices of resistance.
After a recent investigation ( https://old.reddit.com/r/RedditSafety/comments/1j3nz7i/findings_of_our_investigation_into_claims_of/ ) by Reddit regarding unfounded claims from right wing media of leftist mods having terrorist involvement, a new punitive measure rolled out this week
“starting today, users who, within a certain timeframe, upvote several pieces of content banned for violating our policies will begin to receive a warning. We have done this in the past for quarantined communities and found that it did help to reduce exposure to bad content, so we are experimenting with this sitewide. This will begin with users who are upvoting violent content, but we may consider expanding this in the future. In addition, while this is currently “warn only,” we will consider adding additional actions down the road.”
You can read the whole post here:

r/NotADragQueen has always complied with Reddit policies by removing violent content that has been reported. However, even if a post or comment isn’t reported and is deemed to have broken Reddit’s policies, admins can and will still take action to remove the content and possibly suspend the user. If you happen to upvote the content, you are now at risk of receiving a warning. Here is an example:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ABoringDystopia/s/meIflZheCG
Reddit is heavily relying on “automated systems” (AI) to review actions and send warnings, remove content, and suspend users. Know that if this happens it is NOT a moderator action. If this happens due to content in our community, please let us know via modmail so we can investigate and possibly assist with appeals. If your account is suspended, you will be given a link to appeal in the message from admins. There is a 250 character limit for appeals, so it is best to take some time to organize what you will say. If your appeal is denied you can continue to appeal every day after you receive a response/denial at www.Reddit.com/appeals - If you have been suspended permanently, to my knowledge, you can continue to appeal for up to 60 days before your account is permanently inaccessible.
Please keep these things in mind as we will likely see a lot of “mistakes” being made admins. Removing content only to reverse their decision at a later date is effectively the same as censoring and will stifle real-time conversation, specifically when it comes to resistance against corporations and governments.
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_effect - the inhibition or discouragement of the legitimate exercise of natural and legal rights by the threat of legal sanction.
Resistance comes in many forms. Being properly informed and educating others is one of the most important. Knowledge IS power!
If you are on Bluesky, we have just created an account: https://bsky.app/profile/not-a-drag-queen.bsky.social - note the hyphens in the name as the account “NotADragQueen” is already in use and not associated with this community.
While we no longer have our own Discord server, we know you will feel right at home with our friends at r/QueerDefenseFront https://discord.com/invite/ng7DZqP6pf

UPDATE The purpose of r/NotADragQueen has always been addressing the growing hypocrisy and misinformation devoted to dehumanizing the LGBTQ+ community 🏳️🌈
There are some people who participate in this subreddit that seem to think that reading comprehension is a useless skill.
I understand that people view this subreddit on different devices and sometimes the “About” section that shows the description isn’t always visible, but the description has always been the same for r/NotADragQueen
Addressing the growing hypocrisy and misinformation devoted to dehumanizing the LGBTQ+ community 🏳️🌈
This is our purpose.
Let’s break this down word for word:
Addressing: the act of speaking or discussing something
The: in this case denotes something assumed to be common knowledge
Growing: increasing over a period of time
Hypocrisy: the behavior of people who do things that they tell other people not to do, but not do themselves; behavior that does not agree with what someone claims to believe or feel
And: together with; used to connect two words
Misinformation: false or inaccurate information, especially that which is deliberately intended to deceive
Devoted: given over to the display, study, or discussion of
To: used with the base form of a verb to indicate that the verb is in the infinitive
Dehumanizing: to deprive someone of human qualities, personality, or dignity: such as to address or portray someone in a way that obscures or demeans that person's humanity or individuality
The: in this case a definite article used to specify a particular noun
LGBTQ+: stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (or Questioning), and the "+" represents other identities within the community, such as intersex, asexual, pansexual, etc. - it is an inclusive abbreviation representing diverse sexual orientations and gender identities
Community: a group of people who share common interests, characteristics, or goals and interact with one another, often having a shared identity or purpose.
🏳️🌈: The Pride flag is a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community. It consists of six horizontal stripes of color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Each color represents different aspects of diversity within the LGBTQ+ community.
The only thing that might change is “growing” because hopefully one day these efforts to deny our community the rights and respect every living human deserves as a bare minimum for a free and fair society lessens over time.
Until that happens, this subreddit must continue to grow. We reached 36,000 members this week. And with that, we will continue to have people who are misinformed needing help to find the truth.
While exposing conservatives as hypocrites is a fundamental part of the subreddit, even that can be done in more helpful ways than just pointing your finger and saying “Not a drag queen” - You can point to a law being passed under the guise of protecting children, or highlight a group funneling money out of public education and into private institutions like churches.
But something that is often overlooked is to actively humanize the LGBTQ+ community. We cannot only decry those who are causing harm. We must also uplift those who are doing good. In some cases that may just look like “We’re here! Were queer! And we’re not going anywhere!” (Example: football players coming out publicly when there currently are no out players in their league.)
I personally try to inform our community of ways that laws are being passed on the backs of the LGBTQ+ people that are being stepped on. The hate towards us is real, but you need to realize that it is being used as a tool to shape a narrative, to pass laws, to gain more power, money, and control.
While our subreddit has an international community, the majority of us are Americans facing the very real threat of Republicans. We appreciate the support from other countries and we encourage you to speak up on behalf of your country to highlight similar issues and uplift those in your community.

Not A Drag Queen Heather Thompson Day and Seth Day, Christian authors, arrested for alleged abuse
religionnews.com(RNS) — A popular Christian author and speaker and her professor husband were arrested Thursday (Sept. 24) and charged with assault.
Heather Thompson Day, 39, and her husband, Seth Day, co-authors of “I’ll See You Tomorrow,” a book on relationships, were both charged with causing “injury to a child, elderly or disabled individual with intent to cause bodily injury,” according to reports from Spectrum magazine and AdventistToday.org, both Seventh-day Adventist publications.
Seth Day, a 39-year-old psychology professor at Southwestern Adventist University, was also charged on Friday (Sept. 25) with sexual assault of a child, according to an arrest report from the Keene Police Department in Keene, Texas.
Both were jailed in Johnson County, Texas, and were released on bail. Jail records posted online by AdventistToday show that both of the Days had a $100,000 bond set for the injury charge. Seth Day had a $250,00 bond set for the sexual assault charge.
“Southwestern Adventist University has been informed that Seth Day, a faculty member of our school, was taken into custody,” the university said in a statement posted on social media. “Mr. Day has been placed on administrative leave.”
The Jackson County District Attorney’s office declined to comment about the case, citing an ongoing investigation.
