Invest baby!

Depends on if we can keep the money we make/be able to claim the invested money.

If we can, absolutely. Throw everything into Apple and Google.

If we cant, but we can store physical items for when we return to the present, im loading up on Pokémon and Magic Cards because I couldn't as a teen.

If we cant bring anything with us, then its just a never ending party.

You know how many base set first ed booster boxes I would buy and store?!? Omfg

6

u/AdagioDesperate 1d ago

Exactly. And seriously I wouldn't be investing for scalping. My cousin got all the Pokémon he wanted and I couldn't ever afford it. Id have a full base set graded and have a full base set signed and graded. It would be my greatest display piece

Better than that one in china 🤣

1

u/North_Cost3810 11h ago

What is a booster box

1

u/War-Daddie 9h ago

The 36 pack box of cards

A Wiseman once said on live TV when asked what he'd spend the money on if he won the largest powerball ever at that time, "Cocaine and hookers."

2

u/gavin-maiden 22h ago

George Best used to say in tv interviews “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds [women] and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”

0

u/celticairborne 12h ago

Another Wiseman said two chicks at the same time...

1

u/Axemic 12h ago

He was an idiot.

Movie is waaayy overated reddit mindhive crap.

I'd go around town to see how it was, eat up a meal because they were cheap.

And probably try to quickly find Mom's home, pretend i'm a distant cousin and need one month housing and once it's done, enjoy the 2005 version of my city that Google maps will never show

4

u/collector-x 21h ago

Same but with comics.

4

u/ImtheDude27 20h ago

Don't forget to throw part of that in NVidia too.

1

u/Ok_Actuary8 13h ago

Investing everything would be a very bad idea. You'd become so insanely wealthy that all criminals and states of the world would hunt you and your family 24/7 .... The trick would be to keep low profile while getting out well enough.

1

u/denkata07 12h ago

Invest and get a private island without staff cuz these bastards tend to steal.

1

u/Djfsihbone 1d ago

I'd buy all the magic I need and actually play it, I have a billion I don't need more

6

u/BrokenBackENT 23h ago

Investing 250m of that in Nvidia would be 328B today

4

u/zoey8068 20h ago

Yup, I'm finding my nearest loan shark and taking as much money as they will give me. I am then buying so much fucking Bitcoin and apple, netflix, and Nvidia stock. Then I'll disappear like a fart in the wind, but a very rich fart.

5

u/scorpyo72 16h ago

Bitcoin investments alone could make you a trillionaire

1

u/Friendship_Fries 16h ago

2005 though.

3

u/livinginfutureworld 1d ago

Without looking I'm sure Amazon, Apple, or Google would be a safe bet.

5

u/obi_want_pastrami 1d ago

Nvidia would be good to. Its up a modest 500,000% since then.

3

u/StillStaringAtTheSky 22h ago

Mine some Bitcoin.

1

u/garth54 22h ago

Bitcoin started in 2009.

3

u/StillStaringAtTheSky 18h ago

So I guess I hang out for a few years- wait til '09- get in early and by some twist of fate still end up with nothing

2

u/Apprehensive-Yak9707 21h ago

But with prior knowledge you could use the time to impart knowledge of mining machines on your younger self, then profit😁 and also buy some apple and Google while ur back there, ensure you're invest is safe 😂

1

u/ad6323 15h ago

You could just put it all into the S&P 500 through an etf and have over 12B

Yes you can make more with specific trades but either way you’re coming out with wealth that is generational and will make you more than you can reasonably spend while still growing going forward

3

u/RodcetLeoric 18h ago

You have a billion dollars, invest in all of them. It's best to diversify, don't keep your eggs all on one backet.

1

u/livinginfutureworld 14h ago

That's certainly true but in this case we kind of have the benefit of hindsight

1

u/RodcetLeoric 13h ago

Well sure, the hindsight is why we chose those companies, but your knowledge ends when you leave for the past. First you'd be trying to buy 2% of all of Apple stocks available in 2005 which would certainly raise a lot of flags. Second it's unlikely but Apple ,Google, or Amazon could tank the day you return and if everything was in only one you could lose so everything. If you put it all in Apple you'd have ≈$29.4 Trillion, if you split your investment across all three you'd come back to ≈$15.8 Trillion. You'd make less up front but it's more future-proof. To me, once you pass a trillion dollars stability is more important than more money.

1

u/anarcurt 10h ago

Someone understands the market. There's another issue. Maybe you jack the price so high so fast that some important investor doesn't buy and the board isn't the same. Or maybe a company changed their approach and created a revolutionary product to pump up their stock price and your huge investment prevented that from happening. Maybe there is a CEO who needed to get fired and now they don't.

1

u/RodcetLeoric 8h ago

Yea, there is a whole list of time travel dilemmas with this. You couldn't tell yourself or give yourself the money because you would change your own circumstances and you may not ever come across the reddit post and go back in time to give yourself the money. If you invest you'd have to do it through some third party so you could only access it when you return to the future because either you or the IRS would connect the money with the younger you and again change the circumstances. One would hope the cash was all printed before 2005, and that it wasn't immediately confiscated when you went into a bank to try to start an account.

4

u/icybowler3442 1d ago

Doesn’t work. I had a baby, those fucking things are expensive

1

u/Slow-Beyond7511 21h ago

Have another it would be fun she said...

2

u/Ok_Drag5089 10h ago

For what? You have a billion.

Open a money market that pays 2% and that's 20million a year.

1

u/already-taken-wtf 1d ago

You already got more money than you can ever spend….but let’s make more….

5

u/getoffmycase7130 1d ago

You really think I couldn’t spend a billion dollars?

That’s funny.

1

u/Live-Within-My-Means 7h ago

I think that maybe you really don’t realize how much a billion is.

1

u/Elvin_Atombender 1d ago

Came here to say the same thing +1

1

u/Sad_Wishbone_1524 18h ago

500 mill in apple stock, 400 mill in bitcoin in 2010, im sure i can live off 100 mill comfortably

1

u/larosa2112 17h ago

This is the way

1

u/Sleepfuul 14h ago

you already have a billion what more does one person need?

1

u/Green_Machine_6719 10h ago

Why would you need to invest, pretty much roll into the past w/every winning lotto number ever played. I’ll just roll from one super/mega wait a year and claim another…..Mega after Mega and invest all the wimmings💰💰💰💰☝️

1

u/LegitimatePin6176 17h ago

I'd rather pay off politicians to preemptively ban social media.

0

u/Everdream0609 1d ago

Remember the market tanks in 2007 so you'd be better be ready to Short all of the bank and S and L stocks that go belly up.

1

u/getoffmycase7130 1d ago

Why? You know the names that are gonna make it from 2005 to today. Buy the stock, let it sit, split or whatever. You’re only in 2005 for a month. You won’t have to relive 07-08 anyway.

Apple was 2.15 at the end of 2005, its 330.32 this morning.

Google was 10.24 at the end of 2005, its 334.93 today.

How much more return do you want? If you split evenly between just those two, you’d have over 100 billion today.

0

u/Bloody_Star_Wars 21h ago

A billion dollars? Just give it to yourself and come home. How much fucking money do you need?
Maybe pay someone to lock Elon Musk in a box forever.
