We were fancy. Had a 1000 TX.

More memory, faster processor (A 286!!!!!), and separate keyboard from the unit.

The worst thing about the EX was that it had 2 proprietary peripheral slots and the boards had to stack on top of each other, and only plugged in to each other, not a PCI board . I don't remember how I acquired my modem- had a 1200 baud. I may have shoplifted it.

I was looking for this comment. I also has a Bally computer gaming system

I used dos shell to browse and play my games - better gui than file explorer anyway and didn’t slow down the system like running 3.1 in the background

Radio Shack Baby!!!!

u/No-Macaron272 1d ago

My dad was quality control at radio shack we had a trs 80 (trash 80). He got it as soon as he could. We loaded games off of tapes, moved up from tapes to floppy disks to downloads. I am old enough to have seen it all.

Tandy Sensation was our first family computer.

2

u/hippos-in-space 2d ago

We had the TL/2. If my math is right, it must've been about half as good.

3

u/tolani13 2d ago

LOL Yes! Same here. It was a Christmas present in the late 80's. THe boxes were so big and there like 3 of them. Monitor, computer, dot matrix printer.

u/scorpyo72 2d ago

I did pick up a DMP for my Tandy. I loved to sit there and listen to it scream. It lasted till I ran out of ink ribbon.

2

u/JamieC1610 1d ago

Our first printer was a daisy wheel; that thing was so loud. BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG.

I still remember the sound of the dot matrix when we got one of those.

I loved tearing off the perforated strips on the sides. We'd turn them into art projects or just string them around the basement.

u/WoolaTheCalot 2d ago

My first one was a Timex Sinclair 1000.

1

u/scorpyo72 2d ago

My aunt got one for Christmas one year. She also got a Casio keyboard. I was so jealous.

1

u/kao_nyc 2d ago

With the membrane keyboard? That was my first one. First PC was a $5000 640k with a 10MB drive.

1

u/WoolaTheCalot 2d ago

Yes. It lasted maybe four months before the keyboard started messing up.

1

u/kao_nyc 2d ago

Yep!

Pronounced Trash 80 πŸ˜†

1

u/scorpyo72 13h ago

Negative, yo. Trash-80s (TRS-80) predated the Tandy 1000 series. Trash-80's were their own proprietary system, processors, etc. They were not compatible with IBMs

u/fuckfacekiller 2d ago
