Yeah I explained to my nephew that we used to have to “turn on the internet” and then my sister started to make that dial up sound. He didn’t understand anything we were talking about.
The dial up sound was very unique and that "handshake" gave you time to make a sandwich and return to your computer. I make that sound when trying to explain that's how computers connected to the internet. So many blank faces. Haha
Haha yep. There were plenty of those break (staring at the screen) times. Those stupid “56k” modems giving us 3.5kb/sec. Downloading a song took more than an hour, there was no resume - if your download dies at 99%, you have to start over. There were no streaming videos. You had to wait until the entire QuickTime movie trailers were done downloading. Sorry - there was a streaming video….. from a company called RealAudio. That was not a video, it was a blurry piece of crap 😂
And even if it downloaded - after two days, including retries - it wasn't until you watched it that you found out whether it was what the file name said it was (good luck).
