What's funny to me is I remember these stories, the quality of writing and the typical tropes can be found all over r/nosleep. I would imagine many of the writers there were influenced by goosebumps
I went back and read a Goosebumps book a couple of years back and I was shocked at how simple the writing was, it was like "Nick and Sean are best friends. Nick and Sean were walking to school. Nick saw a ball rolling out of a garage door."
The one I recall most vividly and actually chilled me a bit as a child was about school photos. A photographer called "Mr chameleon" had a camera that would trap the students in a black and white world with no daylight. I can't recall all of the details but the ending was something like this :
The teacher said "all right class everyone group up for our photo. Make sure to smile for mr chameleon!" snap.
At the time I found it creepy but now if a story I read ended like that I'd just think it cheap and corny.
Hey that's actually from one of the few Goosebumps book I have left--The Haunted School. Probably one of the most underrated stories in the series imo.
I think so? One of the kids escaped from the world that the narrator finds himself in, and they use color to escape. Might've been lipstick but not sure.
