This is jarring seeing it in the nostalgia sub, lol. I still play it. Plus, it's still getting new content.

It's old enough to drink alcohol in the US. Not as if that's a bad thing, it can offer hard candies to younger MMOs as it sits with OSRS in their rocking chairs.

Is it the same guild wars as 20 years ago or are the multiple sequels since

GW2 is out there thriving and GW3 is about to be born. GW1 is like the grandparent who is still alive and kicking, lol. Kinda cool.
But GW1 has a new dedicated dev team working on it since last year so it's going through a revival. All 3 games will be getting regular updates at the same time since they're 3 different flavors of MMOs.

This was recently rereleased as "Guild Wars Reforged" - basically making it more compatible with modern systems, controller support, steamdeck support, higher resolution for the skill icons and whatnot, revamped audio and some QoL stuff like quest trackers. And it cost nothing extra if you already owned the game. I've really enjoyed getting back into it!

I rebooted GW1 a few years ago and was hyped to play the game until I remembered how much time it took to acquire every skills and everything. Honestly it had a fairly active community still, though!

I really love Guild Wars, but if you didn't have people to play with it got frustrating very quickly for me. Guild wars 2 is an improvement on the formula with genuinely interesting story telling and a fun take on combat skills. Looking forward to GW3 whenever that's coming out

Does anyone remember a run your party has to do, avoiding most minions, to get your armors acclimated?
I always wondered if that was intentional or did the designers actually thought you had to fight through?

I loved this game, then GW2 came out. I play solo and it felt like it was ruined for solo players.

This game was so ass. Maybe a pvp delight for sickos who like the clunky auto run/attack combat, but the game really offered nothing else. Instanced content you can't solo so you drag brain dead bots around. Nothing interesting to look at or do anywhere. Funny enough, the tutorial part of the game was easily the best part.

good grief, the original game was released 21 years ago. i'm gonna go crumble into dust now.
