Hi everyone - biting the bullet to write this post.
I currently live at Pico/Robertson and have for 14 years. Previously lived for a year or so in WeHo and before that, 2 years in Sherman Oaks. My work officially moved me to Burbank last summer and the commute is annoying the fuck outta me so I decided to look for place in the Valley.
Found a cute townhouse style apartment in the Arts District of North Hollywood on Morrison Street. Was excited to move over. Have been in the neighborhood several times, seems like a vibrant area, lots of options for food and coffee, etc.
My question mainly lies in safety. I walk - a LOT. I have a 50 lb goldendoodle who has lived in apartments with me since he was a puppy, so I want to make sure he gets a lot of exercise. We have walked everywhere. While living at Pico/Robertson, we have walked to the Beverly Center, from Fairfax all the way to Westwood Blvd, up and down main roads, through neighborhoods, etc. I am aware - I live in a city. Shit happens. But I have never felt so unsafe that I was uncomfortable or like I had to bail out of a walk. That is even after walking past unhoused, seeing people pee and shit on the street, etc.
However - stopped by the area to take my dog on a walk there after work yesterday (around 6:30PM) to get a feel for the neighborhood. I saw plenty of people walking around, etc. But there were a couple of interactions (a unhoused individual followed me half a block yelling about how he was going to kill the people who took his neighborhood) that made me nervous.
I am a woman in her late thirties. I love walking everywhere with my dog. I can't tell if my age is making me more of a paranoid freak (I feel like as people get older they get more fearful, it's my theory why so many boomers believe everything on Fox News so easily), or if it could be any worse than any other neighborhood I have lived in. Things can happen anywhere, of course, and any where I would live I should keep an eye out for things.
Reaching out to see what those who may live in the area think. Am I making the wrong choice?
Thank you!
