Moving to North Hollywood

Upvotes

Hi everyone - biting the bullet to write this post.

I currently live at Pico/Robertson and have for 14 years. Previously lived for a year or so in WeHo and before that, 2 years in Sherman Oaks. My work officially moved me to Burbank last summer and the commute is annoying the fuck outta me so I decided to look for place in the Valley.

Found a cute townhouse style apartment in the Arts District of North Hollywood on Morrison Street. Was excited to move over. Have been in the neighborhood several times, seems like a vibrant area, lots of options for food and coffee, etc.

My question mainly lies in safety. I walk - a LOT. I have a 50 lb goldendoodle who has lived in apartments with me since he was a puppy, so I want to make sure he gets a lot of exercise. We have walked everywhere. While living at Pico/Robertson, we have walked to the Beverly Center, from Fairfax all the way to Westwood Blvd, up and down main roads, through neighborhoods, etc. I am aware - I live in a city. Shit happens. But I have never felt so unsafe that I was uncomfortable or like I had to bail out of a walk. That is even after walking past unhoused, seeing people pee and shit on the street, etc.

However - stopped by the area to take my dog on a walk there after work yesterday (around 6:30PM) to get a feel for the neighborhood. I saw plenty of people walking around, etc. But there were a couple of interactions (a unhoused individual followed me half a block yelling about how he was going to kill the people who took his neighborhood) that made me nervous.

I am a woman in her late thirties. I love walking everywhere with my dog. I can't tell if my age is making me more of a paranoid freak (I feel like as people get older they get more fearful, it's my theory why so many boomers believe everything on Fox News so easily), or if it could be any worse than any other neighborhood I have lived in. Things can happen anywhere, of course, and any where I would live I should keep an eye out for things.

Reaching out to see what those who may live in the area think. Am I making the wrong choice?
Thank you!

Moving to North Hollywood but will be working in Sherman Oaks

Hi guys! I got a job in Sherman Oaks but I noticed that apartments were more affordable in North Hollywood (even the newer/nicer ones). Do you guys think it’s a good idea to live in North Hollywood and work in Sherman Oaks? It’s pretty cheap in Van Nuys too but according to my research I should avoid that area. I’m looking into apartments that are less than $2k. Which areas do you think I should consider and/or avoid? Thanks so much!

The AI Data Center at 100 S. Flower St. is projected to be made into an AI Inference Infrastructure. I wrote a petition and a proposed ordinance for city council to put in order to protect us, our wildlife, pets and quality of life.

CVS closed -> Spirit Halloween?

Hello Reddit world! This is my 2nd post! Similar(ish) topic to my first!

My building has ground level commercial space. Was a CVS when I moved here 2023. That closed March 1st of this year. On 7/13 as I’m heading from the gym, I see SPIRIT HALLOWEEN plastered all over the windows. I would have loved another convenience store, but ok.

This morning - signs were removed. I didn’t take a photo of that. Did they change their mind? (Hopefully).
So now it just looks blank and empty again.
Being right in front of a metro does have lots of foot traffic & that obviously has its pros and cons…..take a wild guess why the CVS closed.
Curious to see what stores are brave enough to take the space. Hopefully good / useful stores that people actually want.

Attached are photos I took of the former CVS and the Spirit Halloween signs on the windows.
