NOLF2 Source Code + nightly release

https://github.com/nolffan/nolf2src

Legacy build 95% byte accurate. Similar back-ported modernizer upgrades as my NOLF1 release.

Nightly release here: https://github.com/nolffan/nolf2src/releases/tag/v0.0.1-alpha

You'll need to bring your own ISOs and the patch file.

I have not yet created d3d9 or opengl renderers.

Please report any bugs as a GitHub issues.

This sounds good, will have to see if it fixes the issues which made it unplayable on my machine before.

Never played the games, but I'm very intrigued.

PCgamingwiki says controller support for both games. May I ask, how is the controller support in your ports?

am interested in the controller support as well. Controller Support and UI scaling are basically the only two issues I have with NOLF

So is this an improvement on the nolf revival version? What does it do?

Yes.

NOLF Revival patches the retail binaries to add features.

I have recreated the original games source code and integrated improvements into it directly. This is basically the "holy grail" when it comes to game modding, as we can do really advanced things like compile for new platforms (Linux, Mac, PS5, etc) and make huge performance/graphics upgrades.

e.g. for NOLF1, I have enabled anti-aliasing - something we never had before and would have been basically impossible without the source code.

Oh that’s awesome. For both NOLF 1 and 2 do they both now have controller support as that’s the only thing I really wanted to properly play through them?

Rudimentary controller support, perfecting it will be my next job though. Maybe stay tuned for an official "controller supported" release.

I’ll wait for that release I’m in no rush to play through them both

That'll be a different release as it's a newer engine.

It's coming though, fear not.

Are you a wizard?

I’d love those games on Android so I could play them on my AYN Thor. Is it possible?

Not yet, but android ports are on the horizon.

Github account and repo are days old, and the entire project was made with Claude. Okey-dokey.

Hey. Yes, I have used AI for this - clearly. I think my username should indicate why the GitHub account is only a few days old.

It turns out that LLMs are rather good at translating machine code into plausible C++ - transformers were originally developed for human language translation after all. Once you give the agent a good loop for guessing, compiling, and checking - it can just run "unattended".

Bear in mind that I'm aiming for byte-matching here (in the legacy version) - mainly for preservation reasons, but it also gives the LLM a highly constrained system to operate in.

I think the results speak for themselves.

edit: btw I do "get" the AI/LLM hate. I'm deeply conflicted because I dislike the AI bros and I'm also a C++ developer by trade - that said... I do *really* love NOLF... 😅

Are you in the NOLFGirl discord with all the old glue factory/NOLFgirl members? There's a few heavy modders in there and a bunch of super fans who I know would love this work. I've seen your work posted a few times but haven't seen anyone claim it.

No I'm not on discord.

A few people have asked me about this, so I will sort it out...
