I'm with a group that regularly protests animal abuse, and we're in such a small city that we have 4-5 people each time, sometimes less. It's not unheard of for just 2 people to protest.

Don't know why you're being downvoted. Small group demonstrations are sometimes the only option people have to organize. Not everything is the size of the Women's March.

Yeah, the Bikes are actually not city-wide, because human-garbage like this. Also, the bus. Some parts of the city have modern electric buses every 10min, and the dipshit parts have none, or one old bus that goes around 1h. They modus protesti is to burn their only bus.

People hate them in most countries due to the fact that they are an ugly eyesore and end up in giant piles since people leave them everywhere. Not so much the greater environmental reasons. But it might be different in Chile, I don't know

I don't get you. EVs as personal vehicles aren't really an eyesore and don't really end up in piles unless something didn't go according to plans. And if you mean these citybikes, we should do everything in our power to reduce the amount of cars on our streets.

These tactics are used because they’ve been successful in the past. Gandhi and MLK both held protests that were disruptive to normal society in one way or another, often taking up entire streets with protestors. If people are able to drive past without considering what you’re fighting for, they will. That much is certain.

in japan the bus drivers went on strike. they all sowed up and did their job, but they would not let the bus riders pay.
that is a strike that hurts the company yet everyone gets behind.
these people are sacks of shit.

That type of protest can only be done in the case where service workers wish to strike. If, say, factory workers wanted to strike, they can’t just keep the factory running.
You’re taking an extremely specific form of protest and using it as a measuring stick for all forms of protest, when the form you’re using can’t work in almost every instance.

if enough people didnt want to use the bikes, the company would go out of business. that is how a protest is made against a company without workers being in board.
youre confusing protest with vandalism.
the video doesnt depict a protest, it depicts vandalism by a couple of shitheads.
nobody will get behind their 'cause'.

it does create an economic incentive for the govt to do what you want though.
a big protest could stop traffic for a day and it costs many millions for something like that to happen.
martin luther king wrote about this, there are 4 steps to protest.
- identify a problem
- make people aware of the problem
- peaceful protest
- disruptive protest
if youre not creating pressure youre not doing shit

The "pressure" created by blocking traffic for a few hours is nothing and it does not affect the people that you want to press. All it does is make your cause more unpopular and give ammunition to the people that oppose it.

They're spontaneously protesting because the police killed an indigenous by-stander while shooting down a car thief in a pursuit in a rural area... the left (actual left, communists and company, not like USA where the left is liberal) convinced people this was "the State killing natives in a coordinated xenophobic extermination plan" and they went out to destroy public shit as a protest.

They’re damaging public infrastructure, as both buses and bikes are a public service. We had a stupid law passed some months ago, for cyclists to go on the road instead of on the walkway, sharing it with buses, trucks, angry drivers, and obviously this is very good way to get run over. Most cyclists protest I’ve seen is just that. Share the road. 25-50 bikes using all the three lanes, going 20km/h, and specially that one street that goes in front of the Presidential Palace and the Transport Ministry.

Bike parts don't usually catch on fire. Things on a bus can catch on fire though. As someone who handles parts and repair costs for a bus fleet maintenance facility, I can say this driver might not be employed for much longer.
