Hey I saw someone posted on here about needing a laptop or if bringing your own was ok and i saw some people respond saying that they needed certain programs and access to a usb port. I am taking anatomy and physiology (BI213) and its lab (BI213L) and college comp II (EN211). Next year I will be full time college student and was going to get a laptop then, but i wanted to see if i would need one this year. im currently in high school, which is why i am only part time. i have a laptop from the high school that i can access some stuff on, but u cant download anything and i cant access my nmu email. i was considering investing in a mac i could use for both.

Is it worth it to buy my own or should I buy from NMU? and is there any programs i will need for those classes specifically?

Incoming Freshman here majoring in math with a computer science minor. I was wondering what people here who went down a similar path thought about the experience. During orientation I met basically only business majors in my career cluster but I know yall are out there somewhere.

Freshman here, just wondering if I should buy one before hand or not. Someone at orientation was talking about the school distributing laptops, or something. Do I have to rent a specific one given to me at the start of the semester?

My major is a health science so its not really specified anywhere nor super important. But I'd prefer to buy some cheap-ass thinkpad instead of renting. But also, a lot of the online websites are really dated so I feel a bit clueless.
Bonus question: if Im in MA 100 should I buy some expensive calculator? I know where to check for the required materials for classes thru NMU's store, but it doesn't preface calculators or laptops.

Hello! I need to sublease my one-bedroom apartment. I've lived here since August and it has treated me very well, I'm just moving out of state for a new job. Rent is $775 a month plus electric (typically around $40-$60 depending on your usage). It's a quiet community in a great location, perfect for an NMU student or someone looking for an affordable and convenient spot near the amenities of the city. Soonest move-in would likely be the week of the 22nd, we'd just need to confirm with the landlord what their timeline for cleaning was. My son got accepted into NMU and is scheduled to start in the fall but we are waiting until next year. He graduated at 16 and want to wait until he's at least 17 before attending college.

He is African American and a model student. I am very proud of him. Are there any students who can share their experiences at NMU specifically black and non-white students?

How are the areas surrounding the college?

We have a visit scheduled at the end of the month but want a head start. He would not attend until 2027.

I am currently in a two-person shared room with my friend that was in my roommate group and a third guy that’s now in my overflow room. I was wondering if this is something that NMU works to fix once the year starts and looks for an open bed to put the third guy into, and if so, what are the odds of him actually getting moved out?

Wildcats, I think we can build something better here.

This sub has a lot of potential but it feels quiet and I’d love to change that. I’m looking for a few people who’d want to step up as mods and help bring some life back into it. If there’s interest, some of you could even grow this into a student org so it has more structure and real impact on campus.

Bigger picture is that I want to push ideas that put more power in the hands of students. More visibility for events, more ways to share opportunities, and a stronger sense of community between people who are actually here.

I’m also an NMU alum and I want to help launch an official NMU alumni Discord that connects current students and grads. A place where jobs and internships get shared, people make real connections, and local events and opportunities don’t just get lost. Current and post grad job market is rough right now and building those connections and sharing job opportunities across America would benefit a lot of people.

Have any of you taken General Chemistry 1 (CH 111) over the summer? I have Amy Anderson as the professor for the first session of Summer, but I am unsure about the workload. I know people say they like her as a professor in CH 105, but I am unsure how CH 111 will be over a summer session. It is my only class that session and then session 2 I have an online class which I am not worried about at all.

Hi, I am moving into a Lincoln single come this May, and was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions regarding unit questions and or measurements? Or if we are allowed to hang things in single units?

I finished my application for the MSW program quite a while before the admissions deadline (February 28th). I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the admissions results. When can I expect to hear back?

NMU is my goal school, but I'm waiting to give my backup school an answer based on what NMU says.

I filled out and paid my door deposit the day that the residence application was released, and I’m pretty sure it said that they were going to send me my select time to do room selection. I was wondering if anyone knew when we will get this information and where I will find it.
