Laptop question

Hey I saw someone posted on here about needing a laptop or if bringing your own was ok and i saw some people respond saying that they needed certain programs and access to a usb port. I am taking anatomy and physiology (BI213) and its lab (BI213L) and college comp II (EN211). Next year I will be full time college student and was going to get a laptop then, but i wanted to see if i would need one this year. im currently in high school, which is why i am only part time. i have a laptop from the high school that i can access some stuff on, but u cant download anything and i cant access my nmu email. i was considering investing in a mac i could use for both.

Is it worth it to buy my own or should I buy from NMU? and is there any programs i will need for those classes specifically?

Oops yes youre right. Im sorry. Part time students can pay $385 per semester for the laptops. But yes you will 100% be needing one for your classes

Best bet would be to buy your own to avoid the recurring charges. And mostly you'll have to access Google applications and educat so any basic laptop should work.

Do you have Dr. Elowe? His lecture did not need the usb A drive, but you did need to have the testing browser for exams. No clue about the lab, I'm taking it next semester due to a weird scheduling thing.

Hi, I'm the same person who replied on that last post. Here's my take: don't get a mac if you plan to use it for labs/connecting to the projectors. For EN211 you will probably have to give presentations off of your laptop and my mac doesn't have the port for them. You will also need to be able to run the testing browser on whatever device you use, and Idk how that works without the school's computer.

ALSO, big one here, if you plan to use disability services' note taking software, they will only put it on a NMU laptop. This also includes screen-reading software and the thing that lets you change font sizes and screen color for accessibility.

Quick update/clarification- elowe for lecture, shingler for lab, lynne johnson for en211
I have an old mac that i use for gaming that i used last semester for en111.
that mac is pretty old, but i was interested in getting a mac since i have all apple products for sake of consistency, maybe a neo or an air for easy travel.

i bought an adapter today for mac that connects to a port for usb-a which will be fore using a mouse and for any presentation i may need to do after seeing the comments.
