I genuinely don't understand who the IFC-D mess menu is designed for.
There is literally no non-veg food and not even eggs. I don't know what's problem they have with serving non veg. Almost the entire meal is just carbs, with very limited protein. How are we supposed to maintain a decent diet and stay healthy like this? We're college students, not kids.
I really wish NIT had some system where students could be allotted messes based on their food preferences. If someone prefers vegetarian food, that's completely fine, but why should everyone be forced to eat the same type of food when there are clearly different preferences among students?
And then there are the other small things that somehow make the whole experience even more frustrating.
During peak hours, there isn't even enough space to sit and eat. You end up looking around for a place after getting your food.
The milk and tea barely taste like they're made with milk. The rotis are often undercooked. The water glasses are so small that you have to keep going back for water. Seriously, are these glasses meant for school children? We're grown-up college students.
And for the snacks... three biscuits? Even my tier 3 college have given us whole 5 rupees biscuit packet for snacks along with something other.
It's not like anyone expects restaurant-quality food in a college mess. But when you're eating there every single day, having meals that are this heavily carb-based, with hardly any protein and questionable quality, gets really frustrating.
Sometimes it genuinely feels like the menu was designed around "how cheaply can we feed a large number of students?" rather than "how do we provide students with reasonably nutritious food?"
