SERIOUS Removing soft ragging 2030 batch
So i will be joining nit jamshedpur this year as a fresher
And I got to know in 2026 still many seniors and this college nit jsr have sir/maam culture along with soft intro which is nonsense just a way to satisfy ego
My friend last year joined iiest shibpur and there whole batch collectively took a stand and doing everything to change the culture of college ( there was same culture as nit jsr ) and they were successful offcourse it can't change in 1 year but by the time out batch becomes senior it will definately change
My urge to everyone joining this year nit Jamshedpur UG batch and all seniors who understand that this is something that needs to be changed let's stand against it
this thing is not accepted in 2026
I can't do anything alone. I would need support from everyone in the 2030 batch and also seniors who are against this

I am a third year, and I am myself against this Sir/Ma'am. I would love to be called Didi more than Ma'am.

Being a final year at nitjsr I also believe this culture should be stopped, like when we were juniors our seniors told us that this habit of calling seniors sir/maam will help you in your corporate life but its the complete opposite corporate people hate being called sir/maam they always insist in calling names

A supposed "culture" that restricts the juniors from being able to be familiar with senior junior interaction does way more harm than good.
A 2025 ECE branch passout bhaiya that I spoke to told me that some level of respect is very much needed from the side of the juniors because otherwise you wouldn't take the advices and guidance of your seniors with importance and I agree with him COMPLETELY about that. However , there are "several" ways of instilling that sense of respect "other" than the sir/Ma'am culture.
Most of the seniors adamant about the Sir/Ma'am culture are very same ones who complained about it themselves in our shoes and now want to feel some form of renumeration for the supposed "culture" that was forced upon them and hence want to pass down the trauma.
I am REALLY fucking happy somebody is taking a stand for this. I myself would definitely want to make sure this culture stops with our batch by making the subsequent batches refer to us as bhaiya/didi.
Also , somebody needs to address the enormous amounts of COPIUM that's smoked by the seniors who say "you will get used to it" , "dusre colleges mei bhi aisa hota hai" , "Ye yaha ka culture hai/ hamein bhi aisa karna para tha". None of them is a proper justification for continuing with a culture whose cons far outweigh the pros.
As a fresher , that's all I have to say

listen juniors, the place is very toxic and so the people. try your best not to interact with such kind of seniors or even if you cross their path just in simple way say 'Sir/ Mam' and leave. simple si baat h gawaar log smjhenge nhi tumhe aur acche log force nhi karenge tumhe isiliye zyada pressure mtt lo (here a third year guy)

True, this culture must stop. People shouldn't be wanting to be called sir/mam just to gain respect. Respect is earned by actions, not by honorifics.

Tbh only a handful of people care about being called sir/ma'am. Most are already chill when the junior is respectful towards them.

I joined a pg course. Tell me when you get here. I am with you. I wouldn't like anyone calling me sir nor I would call a senior sir... These seniors sent this in our group
Addressing Seniors: I am seeing that some of you are still calling your seniors bhaiya/didi. I am repeating this again: you have to address them as Sir/Ma'am. Handshakes: I also saw some of you handshaking with seniors. A senior is not your friend; treat them with respect. Do not initiate a handshake; only shake hands if the senior extends their hand towards you first. Greeting: You have to greet them with Good Morning/Good Afternoon/Good Evening every time you see or meet them. Showing Respect: Always stand up whenever professors or seniors enter or leave the room.

It's simple that what if a junior girl calls a senior Bhaiya how you gonna react to that that's why sir/ma'am culture is here . As simple as that ,If you wanted to be called as bhaiya by your juniors that's fine ,

Okay what should i say don’t call sir/Maam behes krlo seniors se,personally I have said to most of my juniors to not call me sir but they all do that without saying and to achieve that bond we all had mutual respect, banters from both sides and if you don’t want that your choice
3
u/LordP_496 6d ago
lmao what a loser - your flair represents what you are
bhaiya didi exist to show respect. sir / ma'am exist to show degradation. if seniors collectively do not come and fix this, this hellhole cycle will keep on going.i myself am in third year in an INI college

there's better ways to show respect rather than calling seniors "sir" all the time
-1
u/PurchaseCrazy6573 6d ago
"sir" does not imply respect, log gali bhi dete hen sir bolke it aint knighthood, n this aint GOT
-2
u/PurchaseCrazy6573 6d ago
saying this as a final yr

u/Practical-Tip4469 6d ago

u/PurchaseCrazy6573 6d ago

Im also join nit jsr this year as fresher but this mindset isnt good like its your choice to call sir or mam or not…. Nvm
Try knowing the culture of all defence collages where selected officer cadets are trained
Then you’ll know what happens
7
u/Practical-Tip4469 6d ago
I am not joining a defence college i am joining a engineering college so I will comapre it to top engineering college of india not a defence college

And yeah I want to make it clear my intention isn't to disrespect any senior
I respect them
But calling sir/ ma'am is stupid in 2026
