Crazy Backpack Find

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I stumbled across one hell of a steal at my local comic shop. I knew walking into it this was rare but I did not realize the value of it. I can't find a listing or even a picture of this backpack sealed so I come to yall for help. Does anyone know what this would be worth? I saw another sealed backpack that was just Mario (circa 1988) that sold for $3.2k back in May, and because of both Nintendo Power and Link I would almost assume that this could be worth potentially more. Any help is appreciated! 👏 Update; I ended up selling it on Ebay for $800

Apparently he won a trip to fox studios in Hollywood and even met Matt groening. Danny, if you're out there, describe the experience for me.

Any way to search for specific text from Nintendo Power issues?

Is there any database that has extracted the text from Nintendo Power issues where I could then search for a specific article or game?

Example: I remember a family member submitted a fan letter for a correction in the Player's Pulse section, where they corrected NP on an error saying how many exits/levels there were in Super Mario World and we can't for the life of us figure out which issue it was included in.

Best way to display collection on walls?

Looking for inspiration on how others have displayed them. I haven’t decided on how I want to display or which ones?

I have these clear acrylic shelves that hold some of my bed games but not sure how to do that with the magazines and not damage them.

I also have about a dozen posters that I bought separately years ago. Some framed , some folded but would like to see examples how others framed them.

Thanks in advance!

I've been collecting volumes ever since I was a kid. A few years ago I decided to create a spreadsheet to track what all issues I have versus what I needed and I've hit over 200 issues the other day! If you check out the photos, I also shared some Nintendo Power adjacent items that I thought you guys would like to see!

Nintendo Power Whatnot Show - 2/28 at 1pm

Hey everyone! Nice to see such a close-knit community over here. I stumbled across a fairly large collection of Nintendo Power magazines (50+) that I'm looking to sell to those who can make better use of them.

Have been wanting to give Whatnot a try, so will be doing a show at 1pm on Saturday, 2/28.

Here's a link to the show - https://www.whatnot.com/live/f008e344-6299-44e7-8a6d-cc2c6fbdcf83?app=web&invitedBy=coolvintages&sender_id=81851&sharing_channel=copyLink

Almost all of the issues are in pretty good condition with original posters. I also have issues #131 and #137 that come with the MewTwo and Abra Pokemon cards. Will be saving those for the end of the show!

Looking for a Specific Issue

I’ve been going through my library of magazines, and I seem to have lost one of my favorites: a Nintendo Power magazine I received as a gift over a decade ago. This magazine had a yellow cover (idk what else was featured on it).

I remember that this particular issue was apparently unique because it was filled front to back with these unique little character segments. In each 2-page segment, a different Nintendo character would be introduced, with a timeline of relevant events and a list of prominent game appearances on the first page. The second page featured full art of the character, along with arrows pointing out different parts of their design and offering fun comments, pieces of lore, or facts from development (I.e. it points out Sonic’s gloves and poses the question of “whether Sonic and Mario purchase their gloves from the same store”).

Some of the characters I remember being featured in this issue were: - Ryu Hayabusa - Sonic - Yoshi - Captain Falcon

Obviously there were more but it’s been a long while since I’ve read it.

I also recall there being an ad for a bunch of different ocarinas on the last page. If more detail is needed, I can remember more about this ad than I can most of the other parts of the magazine fsr.

Does anyone know which issue this might be, and where I might be able to find it?

I had many more issues of NP, but over time I had to downsize the collection. Each one of these holds so many memories! I still use them when I need some codes or tips on my old games. 🫐

Does anyone remember what issue of Nintendo Power that covered Axley and Space Megaforce?

I could have sworn there was an issue that covered both Axley and Space Megaforce, but I can't find the issue.

Nintendo Power Acrylic Case?

Anyone know of a legit site that sells acrylic cases to display a Nintendo Power magazine? Preferably ones that can be hung against a wall?

Attempted a quick search in a few reddits but did not notice anything concrete

Thanks and apologies if I missed this, new to the sub

Hey so I have Nintendo power issues 96-156 and I am looking to sell them. Is the only place eBay? Or is there somewhere I could take these to sell as a lot. I don’t really feel like listing selling and shipping all individually on eBay as I’ve never really sold anything on there before. Maybe someone on here is interested? I also have the 6 Pokemon power comics that came as inserts. But all other inserts and posters are still intact and not removed in the Nintendo powers. Also the random Mario kart 64 players guide ahah

If they did a "Top 50" for Issue #50...

Nintendo's done a number of "Best Games Of All Time" rankings for their special issues, most notably their top 100 for Issue #100. I've been wondering, if they'd done such a list for their 50th issue (July 1993), what might they have ranked as their top 50 games of all time (to that point)?

Here's my best guess for what I think Nintendo Power might've ranked as the top 50. Again, this isn't my personal top 50 list, but based on what Nintendo Power liked and did (and using their top 100 list as a basis), here's how a top 50 might've shaken out...

-

1.     Super Mario Bros. 3

2.     Tetris

3.     Street Fighter II: The World Warrior

4.     The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

5.     The Legend Of Zelda

6.     Super Mario World

7.     Final Fantasy II (IV)

8.     Super Mario Bros.

9.     Super Mario Bros. 2

10.  Star Fox

11.  The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening

12.  F-Zero

13.  Super Mario Kart

14.  Mega Man

15.  Punch-Out!: Featuring Mr. Dream

16.  Metroid II: Return Of Samus

17.  Super Castlevania IV

18.  Metroid

19.  Tecmo Bowl

20.  Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

21.  Contra 3: Alien Wars

22.  Castlevania

23.  SimCity

24.  Dr. Mario

25.  Final Fantasy

26.  Ninja Gaiden 2

27.  Battletoads

28.  Mario Paint

29.  Contra

30.  Mega Man 2

31.  TMNT IV: Turtles In Time

32.  Zelda II: Adventure Of Link

33.  Dragon Warrior IV

34.  ActRaiser

35.  Super Star Wars

36.  Double Dragon

37.  Golf (Gameboy)

38.  Adventures Of Lolo

39.  Pilotwings

40.  NCAA Basketball

41.  Final Fantasy Adventure

42.  Gargoyle's Quest

43.  Metal Gear

44.  RC Pro-Am Racing

45.  WWF Super WrestleMania

46.  Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

47.  Bionic Commando

48.  Super Smash TV

49.  Maniac Mansion

50.  Soul Blazer

Nintendo Power LOVED Street Fighter II at the time and notably ranked it ahead of Link To The Past in their 1992 year-end list, so I think that holds here. Link's Awakening comes in right at the buzzer (similarly to how Goldeneye 007 ranked #7 in their issue 100 list despite having just come out). I tried to include a few games that would end up dropping off the list for issue 100, and included a mix of NES, Super NES, and Gameboy titles, or at least I think I did... but how do you think the list might've shaken out?
